So, I have lived in Arizona pretty much my entire life, and consider myself to be a proud Arizonan. But some of the things lately leadership in my state has been doing is extremely questionable.

First, they decide to pass a state wide measure to put photo radar on all of the states highways, and then claim it's in the name of "safety." Which is total bull crap because we all know it's to make money, and it actually leaked out this is the case. And I think it's brilliant in a down economy to be taking money out of people's hands and putting it straight to the government! /sarcasm.

So far, there have been 40,000 citations sent out in two months. Which tells me one thing, IT'S NOT UNSAFE TO SPEED ON HIGHWAYS IF EVERYONE IS GOING THAT SPEED! I know this for a fact because I travel on a highway (the 51) and during off peak hours, everyone goes 70 in a 55, because quite frankly 55 speed limit on a highway is asanine and antiquated.

Luckily, people are really starting to protest this (in legal and not so legal ways). A guy took a pick ax to one, causing thousands of dollars to the state. And while I like his stance and his actions, I hate anything that costs the state money. And there are other people who are petitioning for it to be put on the next ballot so we can vote whether or not to have it.

So after all this hoop-lah over the speed cameras put out there to make sure people don't speed, I mean to generate revenue for the state, I read this dandy article.

Basically the Phoenix Metro will not allow advertising on our light rails. So your going to take money out of people's pockets, most who can't afford it in a down economy, and but then not take money in advertising from corporations who want to give it to you?

That very unwise decision on their part and the leadership of this state needs to be seriously questioned.

I smell Class Action Lawsuit brewing. Maybe the ACLU will help fight it?
Yeah, I hate when municipalities/states think automation is the answer to everything. This should be the job of the Highway Patrol, but I guess they are claiming that they are too busy (scratching their a**es?).
Anyway it could be worse. I was born in Chicago. Even though I know political corruption go hand in hand in Illinois, it works -- until someone goes to jail for it.
You think the past couple of governors would have figured that out, but nooooo.

I remember when they added cameras to some intersections in VA Beach to catch red light runners. It turned out that the accident rate actually went up because people were jamming on their brakes when they saw a red light so there were rear-enders left and right.

40,000 citations in 2 months is insane. Hell, they probably had to hire more employees just to handle all of the tickets that are going to be mailed out!
