If you're like myself, you've noticed some slim pickings on the Netflix instant watch selection when it comes to anime. Don't get me wrong, there are some great shows like the Ghost in a Shell series and movies like Ninja Scroll, but there's just too few. Well imagine my surprise when a friend recommended Desert Punk to me. My plan was to rent the DVDs from Netflix to only get the shock that it was available for instant watch. The reason I didn't see this on the list of anime available might be because it's a Starz play video, but from the moment I started watching the series I couldn't stop.

Much like Trigun and Cowboy Bebop, the main character is a lovable loser. He also goes into perv mode whenever he sees a "hot babe." Punk spends his time as a gun for hire that finds himself in all sorts of weird scenarios like protecting a vehicle carrying tons of shit or being the target of an insane sniper. Near the end, the series goes into a different direction I didn't prefer, but the series overall is highly recommended to all with Netflix on XBL.

Netflix says...
"In a futuristic Japan, where fate has transformed the once-lush landscape into the giant Kanto desert, the complexities of everyday life have pushed many to become criminals, and innocence, decency and heroism are scarce. Amid the chaos, a pint-sized bounty hunter named Sunabouzu (aka the Desert Punk) -- armed with a reputation for excellence and admittedly less-than-noble intentions -- is just looking for his next paycheck."

I watched Appleseed Ex Machina today and I liked it, but then again I'm a big Shirow fan.

Thanks for the heads up on this. It's been on my rental list (admittedly near the bottom) for a while now. Also, mega kudos to you for including a link to the page!
