Three Things on Thursday

Ugh. Snow. Snow. Snow! It simultaneously brings me hate and joy. Hatred of driving through it, and joy for the holiday season. I just know my hours this month are going to be shot to hell and back. Wait this a blog about Winter, it's Three Things on Thursday. And with less whining it's Three Decent Anime Games:
Ghost in the Shell (PS1) Not that SAC. The other Ghost in the Shell. The PS1 game is based on the characters and events of the original manga with the voice actors from the dub of the movie lending their talents. It's a third person shooterwhere you pilot a mini tank capable of adhering to just about any flat surface. The gameplay is pretty solid, but it's the presentation and adherence to the license that really rounds out the package with plenty of animated cutscenes, and mission briefings mimic the 3D wireframe-esk onces from the movie. It's a bit short though, but hey, it's a PS1 game! Gundam Battle Assault 2 Hey look kids! A fighting game with Robots! Okay nothing largely original here. It's just silly fun. Sure there isn't much varientation in the background graphics, but the characters themselves are nice looking. They move in the right kind of "Robot-y" way and begin to sport battle damage if you pound away on them. The actual ammount of characters is pretty substantial, with a selection of units from G Gundam, Gundam W, and a spread of UC Gundam. If you're a fan of Gundam this is one of the fun games to get that you don't have to be ashamed of. Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Have you played the demo for this? It's absolutely beautiful. I mean it. It only the show looked this good. And wasn't annoying. Oh well. Anime, bad. Game, good. It's a lot of fun to play and the full roster of playable characters and strikers gives good variety to the whole deal. The full 3D stages don't effect battles that much, but the objects that populate them are solid. Nothing worse then trees and rocks you can walk right through. I do have to say the animation on some of the super attacks is just "Koala Bear crapped a rainbow in my brain" beautiful. Okay, okay, so the game has some problems, the story aka "Mission Mode" can be a bit tedious with it's minigames, but in all respects it's trying to cram the majority of the first part of Naruto into a game while giving it some semblance of length and not rushing through it like most fighting games do with their stories. And the lack of online multiplayer is a disappointment sure, but really even if it had one, I don't see online multiplayer adding that much to the experience overall but still it's a negative. Hopefully a sequel will see a expanded roster and online multiplayer. Alright, complain away, because that's it for this week. Next week? Three things I got for X-mas? I doubt it. Maybe it'll be Three things I should have gotten for X-mas. Or not. And now, a wild youtube appears! |

I am so sad that I had to sell my copy of GITS. I loved that game. But I really needed the money.

A big "Aye" to GitS. Love that game. My only gripe is the lack of analog support, which makes the game more difficult to play. Turning the analog support on (via PS3) helps, but some of the scheme is still counter intuitive.
