Apartment Hunting Part I

So today, I went apartment hunting.

I checked out three places today and called up another three on the way to the office and in between apartment communities. Each one I looked at is different. However, I broke it down to the following criteria:

-Monthly Rent: Want to pay at least $500-$600 a month
-Paid water: No places have this, some are fixed and some are individually metered.
-Fitness Center: Latest equipment and have at least and elliptical. This will also save me almost $40 a month in which my current membership at the gym I go to is.

All three did not had my ideal rent cost, however, the second one I went to is very nice for a studio apartment. Although it's pricey ($670..yikes) and considered a luxury apartment, I get what I pay for.

Another downside is the pet policy. One, I don't really like the non-refundable pet fee, which is at least $300 and two of them charge a pet fee (averaging $15-20 extra a month)

While I'm considering the luxury studio apartment which I can afford after my VW lease is up, there are more places I can look at.

Random Note: Is Apartmentratings.com really legit? There are just alot of complexes I looked at and have at least a low rating for each one.

For the apartment rating website, people are more likely to go out of their way to bitch about a place than to praise it.

$670 is pricey......

Where do you live?? $800 is a cheap price for an apartment in SD.

I live in Nashville, Layzie.

I know that if I lived in a cheap apartment, then it's ghetto...I'm trying to balance price+safety out.

A studio apartment is at least $900 in the Boston area... consider those prices a blessing.

I pay $700 for my small shitty apartment. I would love a studio apartment for $670.

Yeah seriously. I'm paying $500-$600 a month right now, and I live with 4 people. Where are you located?

You might be better off buying in TN. There are a lot of homes under $120,000 scattered around Nashville. Assuming you can secure a loan with a decent rate, you could be paying less for a mortgage than rent.

Wow...I pay $1330 a month for my one-bedroom in upstate NY.
I can't even imagine a world where my rent is <$1000.
