I was introduced to anime at a very young age. When I was 5, Pokemon was all the rage. About 10, Yu-Gi-Oh. But at 12 I started to get into some real good anime. Fullmetal Alchemist, Spiral, and a bunch that I can't think of right now. But also around that time Manga was introduced to me. Death Note, Planetes, Rurouni Kenshin, among many others.
So pretty much for the first 2 years of being a teenager was spent with me watching anime and reading manga. After a while I just started to drift away from the whole Otaku scene and became more game and music oriented. But now about a year after I drifted away, it's coming back. I got all my anime DVD's out of my garage and have just been binging on anime. Same with manga. It's really weird to me beacus as quickly as it went away, it came back harder. |

Same boat as you, I was really into the stuff in middle school then drifted away from it. This year my friends convinced me to download code geass, and that single series brought me back in.

In my junior and senior year of high school (and into my freshman year of college) I really got into it, then it started to dwindle. I still kept up with shows like Bleach, Deathnote, Fruits Basket, FMA and a couple of others but not as much. Now I'm finding myself getting back into it.

I was 10 when I was introduced to anime in 1992 by a Taiwanese friend who showed me Dragon Ball Z. I was instantly obsessed and bought these really expensive imported-from-Japan figures for $20 each (well, begged my mom to). I fell in love with Akira Toryiama's art and was drawing Goku, Vegeta, etc. all over my schoolwork.
It's funny that back then pretty much no one in America knew what anime was and I felt so... elite, I suppose, for what I thought was this secret window into cartoons that were so much cooler than what we had (well, I still loved Ninja Turtles, G.I. Joe and He-Man). I never got hugely into Anime but do have a few collections ranging from Cowboy Bebop to Evangelion with a nice Macross set thrown in for good measure. It's good stuff. |
