![]() So the XBOX360 dropped the price of the Arcade to $199.99, and it seems to have paid off. Good for them. Before I get started, I want to say that this isn't going to be PS3 fanboyism, it just chaps my hide that Sony isn't arguing value over sticker price. I have heard dozens in the past month say "the PS3 needs to figure out a way to drop their price because the 360 is sooooo much cheaper" but it really isn't true. In fact, I was in the market for a 360, until I realized that the PS3 was a better value, so I picked that up first. And it's true: even if you discount the BluRay drive or the built-in router (a $230 value on their own) and ignore the 360 failure rate, the 80GB PS3 is STILL a better value. So my question is why doesn't Sony try to advertise that? If Sally Homemaker sees a big sign that says "the 360 will cost more than you are paying right now" she might at least LOOK at the PS3 before buying her kid the cheaper system. So, Sony, I made you a little present. It's just a rough draft I did in 10 minutes, but you can pretty it up and use it. I don't mind. Here's the ad you should have been running all year. |

If you take the time to make this, it is pretty obvious that you are a Sony fanboy. I'm curious, do you have an Xbox 360? And I'm pretty sure not every 360 gamer uses a Wireless Adapter.

Yeah, wired here, no wireless for my gaming. I would gladly pay $50 for Live Gold as well (I normally just pay around $35) for a year because it's online service is complete. Also all 360 models have software based backwards compatibilty, not all PS3 models do. All current versions of the 360 are HDTV ready as well.
With all that in mind, I used to have a PS3 and got rid of it. 95% of the games I was wanting to play are multi-release or only on the 360. No since in having to decide which console I want. Also most of my friends have the 360. |

I love how you dont figure in you get two games with the 60gb hardriver not to mention they make things called ethernet cables, also you forgot to mention that ps3 doesn't play backwards compatible ps2 games so just be quiet you ps3 fanboy.

I don't own a 360 (yet) and I did not write this to discount the 360 either; it's more a stab at Sony's marketing, because they really have no one to blame but themselves. It was just that easy to make this ad, and it's the message they need to convey if they want to move a $400 unit.

Don't forget the HDMI or component cables you'll be buying to go with that PS3. Hardly "ready for your HDTV."

If this was their advertising, everyone would laugh at their stupidity. Not only does not everyone need wireless, but some of us are smart enough to buy $20 wireless bridges instead of $100 accessories.
While you're being inaccurate, why stop at 1 year of Xbox Live Gold? You're going to be playing online for more than one year, and PSN may be free forever. So what are you going to live, 70 more years? 70 years x $50 is $3500. So, really, that Xbox 360 is going to cost you $3900. Also, on the Sony side of the equation, you should include the PC you'll need to buy in order to play 360's exclusives. |

A lot of people don't take this into account though. The only thing really necassary for the 360 is the hard drive and that's it. WiFi is only necassary if you REALLY need it (if you have absolutely no way of getting a hard wire to run to your 360), and the gold membership isn't really necassary either. Keep in mind that the 360 is a lot more family friendly than the PS3. I'm sure younger children aren't going to be ranting and raving just because they can't play online or can't watch a movie from Netflix. It's kind of like Qore on the PS3, it's completely optional. I own both a PS3 and 360, I don't have XBL gold and rarely play games online on PS3 because many people don't have headsets and it just doesn't really appeal to me unless I'm playing with someone I know. That's another thing you didn't point out, how the PS3 doesn't include a headset, or a HD cable so it's hardly ready for HD like you said it is, and Blu Ray movies are pointless for people who don't have HDTVs. Oh and also, you don't have to buy the hard drive seperately anyway, you can buy that with the 360. That was just a stupid way of trying to make the 360 look even more expensive.

Here on CAG we all know games, we understand prices, and so looking at the 360, and Wii, people feel that Nintendo and MS are nickel and diming people - Yes they are, but its not a bad thing to do so. What the market needs is a cheap entrace fee. To get on board with 360 its' only 189-199 dollars, for PS3 to get on board its 399. People will pay 399, but they need time to do so, because 399 up front is too much. I don't think that anyone feels the the PS3 is a bad deal, and not Worth the money - it's been well established that the PS3 is worth the money, however if you're budget only savys 200, then 400 is Out of the question. Advertising this may be a bust for Sony, the best thing they could do, is follow the 360 strategy, take out the Wifi, maybe throw in a smaller hard drive. Thus making the PS3 a little bit more affordable, sometimes having the cheaper option, will make people understand the worth of the more expensive package. But by having a cheaper PS3, at least you get people to "shop" for one.

i some what agree with the OP.
I was debating which one, I wanted and I got the ps3 when it came out because I added things up. free online play and bluray movies won me over. Game support sucked and no real friends to play with. Alot of my friends have ps3 now and game support is finally picking up. I recently picked up a 360 when the NXE happened because of lowered prices, but i only use it for netflix and exclusive games. But next time, im not going for value...im going for whats important, friends and game support....not really, im just going to buy both at the same time I prefer the graphics of the ps3. take that fanboys :P |

Again, the whole point of this was to take a jab at the Sony marketing team. I think he's got a valid point. While some of the details might not be entirely useful or necessary (i.e.-wireless adapter), the concept is that Sony is just letting Microsoft get away with being seen as the "cheaper" system. While a CAG might know better, there's a huge audience of people who still don't. Sony just needs to start pushing the value of their system, and I would imagine it would look something like this. Sony could easily argue that paying an extra $50 is worth it for getting BluRay, the ability to change out hard drives, etc.
Yes, I own a 360 and no, I don't own a PS3. |

New Arcade Jaspers have built in 256mb. The rest of it is completely unnecessary.
And you know what else the 360 has that the PS3 CANT buy? All the people that already own it. Many of your friends already have a 360, so if you want to play a game with THEM, theres no other alternative. |

Microsoft's answer to that AD

Wow, that's a load of bullshit. Almost all those prices are wrong, and you're assuming everyone needs all that.
Stop making blog posts. |

Nice, the $199 version 360 in that pic already has an HDD on it, so I'm actually getting two HDDs with this deal. Thanks OP, gonna go get a 360 bundle now.

You can easily snag a 20GB hard drive for $25 or less on eBay, which would take $75 off your figure. The wireless adapter is optional, so lose another $100. The Xbox Live Gold is arguably entirely optional, depending on the type of gamer you are.
Your $450 figure - $75 hard disk diff - $100 optional wireless - $50 Gold membership = $225 Insert joke about Sony's Home being priceless here. |

There's no point to not having a 360 if you don't have XBL, and most of XBL is on Gold. As for the Hard Drive argument, your average consumer isn't going to go on eBay for one. As for wireless, dad isn't going to put his internet box in the kids' room where their new Xbox is to appease them. For those people, wireless is required.
