The Rise of Xbox Live Arcade

We all know how strong the XBLA is already.

Games such as Castle Crashers, Braid, SSF2 HD Remix, Portal, Rez HD and others define how great the service already is.

Other games like Banjo Kazooie, Sonic 1 and 2, Double Dragon and Contra show Microsoft's commitment to giving us the games of our childhood.

2009, however, looks to be Microsoft's year to get everyone playing together.

With the recent announcement of the Hasbro Game Channel, which includes Scrabble, Connect Four, Sorry!, Battleship, Yahtzee, Boggle, and Sorry! Sliders, Microsoft plans to get the family together again.

My mom loves Scrabble, my dad loves Yahtzee, and me and my brothers love Sorry! so I can see this being very successful in my household.

Another thing that Microsoft is creating this year is Xbox Live Primetime. This was supposed to kick off when NXE launched, but was pushed back into later this year.

Xbox Live Primetime is a game show channel where you can play real games for actual prizes with the rest of Xbox Live. The first game show announced was 1 vs. 100, which may or may not stay since the show was cancelled last year.

I love the idea of Primetime. It will most likely get the bulk of my Xbox playing time when it arrives.

With all of this coming to Xbox Live this year, I don't know how I'll ever get off the 360.

The Hasbro Channel sounds like a great idea, but given Hasbro's history, it wouldn't surprise me if they charged at least 1200 points per title.

I know. 400 points each would be the price where I'd buy all of them, but I could live with 800 and just buy a few.

I wish XBLA had monopoly, that game is epic.

Why not buy the disc version with Live?

It doesn't even have Live multiplayer! It's $40! It won't even be worth it when it ends up in the bargain bin.

I can't believe that Hasbro could launch a bunch of games on XBLA and not have Monopoly. What a bunch of idiots over there.
