Thanks Apple! Thanks for trying to sell me my collection again. I'll go find some ripping software or dl higher quality versions on bt. Btw, amazon does it correctly.
I feel like I should get a free voucher after buying an aluminum macbook on launch day [which has been worth every penny.] |

I haven't read much about the mac event, so is iTunes plus like the DRM-free songs? I agree amazon does it right, but I myself am doing it all the dishonest way lol. I do support apple though, as I have a MacBook and a couple of iPods haha. I like their OS's both OS X and the one used in the iPods.

Yeah, they discontinued using DRM and changed their pricing structure a bit today (while adding a $2800 macbook pro to the macbook line.) Along with that, they are giving people the option of paying $3 an album (or something along those lines) to upgrade their music.
I'm kind of an apple supporter...I've switched to macbook for my laptops from now on and have an 80gb classic, but all my music is from itunes giftcards that people give me. This shit is hilarious though...but I guess you can do that when you're the top music outlet in the U.S. |

Oh that is bullshit. There is no
ing way apple should charge you for that, it's almost like a dumbass tax for buying DRM. |

They take away the drm, but I think the "value" is supposed to come from the upgrade to 256kbs.

Yeah, the problem is that it is all or nothing. You have to upgrade all of your purchased tracks to get the deal, you can't just upgrade some of them. If you want to upgrade just some you have to pay full price for them. Also, they haven't completely done away with the DRM yet. From what I can see, the majority of music on the iTS still has DRM. However, they are promising that it will all be gone soon. I think they said that 2 million songs today, which is only a portion of the library. I stopped buying iTS tracks a long time ago because of the DRM. I'm glad I did. Now that they will be getting rid of it, they are back on the radar, but not until it's 100% DRM free. It's just not worth the trouble right now, of searching for music, only to find that it still has DRM, and then I have to search for it elsewhere anyway. When they get to 100%, I'll consider it.

I still don't think its worthy of consideration, unless you have gift cards. Amazon is still cheaper. Hell, a bunch 2008 releases I wanted were $5 a piece around Christmas. And John Coltrane's "My Favorite Things" album was 99 cents the other day! Madness!

Well, Apple announced a new pricing structure, but I don't think it's gone into effect yet? Some tracks will be 69 cents now, or was it 79? Some such price. Presumably album prices will be lower too. I think older albums are cheaper, but then again, newer/more popular albums will be more expensive. Yes, some tracks more then 99 cents. I.e. the record companies got their way in that regard. We'll see how far that goes. My point is, I'll consider it again, once all the DRM is gone. If they have the better price, I'll buy there.
