The ECA's and Destructoid's Version of Journalism |
1061 views |
![]() First, we have the 'Microsoft denies using Home to conduct meetings' story, then we have this: http://www.destructoid.com/left-4-de...s-117304.phtml Not only was it bad enough that destructoid ran it, the ECA newsletter picked up on it, too. The blogs are making the National Enquirer look Pulitzer-worthy. Her's my dilemma- I'd like to support the ECA, but I can no longer read their daily newsletter. It's a steaming pile of elephant crap. |

I normally find Jim Sterling entertaining and intelligent. However, there have been a few times that he and Destructoid have picked the most inappropriate and downright stupid stories. Last year, I called him out for publishing a post from Craig's List (which was probably a fake) where a person asked to have sex to Super Mario Bros. World 1-1. It was stupid at best. I called them out and told them that it completely discredits their blog as a viable news source and, of course, got eviscerated by the bullying Destructoid community. Glad to see somebody else feels as I do.

While I know Destructoid must put out an occasional good story, I always seem to click through to this crap.
Maybe I'm uptight and like my news blogs and humor sites to not intermingle. Did he at least credit Craig's list? |

Yes, Craig's List was credited. It's funny you use the word "uptight" as that's how they all described me. Not to sound sanctimonious, but I was really looking out for them. I felt them gaining acceptance in the video game community as a viable blog site and then they put out that crap. Oh well....
As far as news and humor intermingling, Joystiq and Kotaku manage to do it in a tasteful and entertaining way. I don't see why Destructoid has to turn adolescent. G |

I thought that linked story was pretty damn funny albeit inappropriate and discrediting.

Sterling's response to criticism in the comments section was basically "lighten up".
I rarely go to dtoid anyways. They're always a day late/dollar short on the news anyway. :p |

yeah, they had a "topless halo 3" event. Then leaked the uncensored version. And some super obnoxious post about how MGS4 was coming to the 360. They also picked up that retard Robert Summa immediately after (hours after, maybe?) he posted that overhyped story about Wii chips in production.
Very classy place. |

While I don't find this piece particularly entertaining, I think Destructoid should do more stuff like this. There are enough "straight" gaming news blogs out there.

A little off topic, but one of the many reasons I do not like Destructoid is because of their "Community Review Challenge" (also written by Sterling here). Which basically challenges XNA Community Game Developers to pay Destructoid (in MS Points) to have their game reviewed....if the Devs are brave enough.

One more thing, since we're kicking them while their down. I recall a "Megaton exclusive news announcement at midnight"...It turned out to be Bomberman for the wii...
I guess it was big for EastX. |
