Thinking about closing out the ol' gamefly account.

The 10% off games discount is so dastardly of gamefly and until now has deterred me from closing out my longstanding account with my favorite online retailer. I remember the good ol' days of bright spot TV nickeling my monthly dues down to a mere $6. I have many fond memories of timing my returns just right to be sent a new release with the option of keeping it for a measley $40 (maybe I'll holdout for killzone). And the summer clearance sales were to die for.
But damnit to hell my backlog is enormous and there's just not enough room in my life for CAG, Goozex, and Gamefly. I'm killing myself to get each purchase/rental/trade's worth (and yes I've snuck in another CAG backlog blog into the already backlog infested waters of CAG blogs). Not only that but the future release schedule is immediately bleak. So gamefly.... Spread your wings and prepare to fly For you have become a Gamefly Fly abandonedly into the sun If you should return to me We truly were meant to be So spread your wings and fly Gamefly (yeah, that's right. I'm closing out with a Mariah Carey reference, you're just going to have to deal with it.) |

Yo me and gamefly, go back like babies and pacifers.
Sorry, couldn't resist. I am in the same position, moving back to the states, I thought about starting gamefly up again, but my backlog is killed and febuary has so crazy releases. |

I agree with your sentiment. Considering how easy it is to get games on the cheap these days, Gamefly just seems sort of redundant.
That, and in two months of paid service, I only received two games from them (each of which I only played for a day). The others conveniently were lost in the mail. |

I've been having difficulty targeting specific games and it feels like the turnaround time increased. before turnaround was about 3-4 days. Now it's about 5-6 days

I got rid of mine last week. Turnaround starting taking a week and I could not get any recent releases. Now I just buy discounted games.

I've opened and closed my account so many times I've lost track for those reasons OP.
But now I'm back on the wagon with Gamefly, and used their recent $10 off $30 coupon and my $5 coupon to get Saints Row 2 for $25. Every time I think about closing my account, they give me a reason to stick with them. |

I'm in the crossroads whether to close my GF account or stay. I have another $5 coupon on the way and considering the Feb game releases (SF4, FEAR 2) in addition to the March release of RE5, I'm going to stay until I can get what I want with the "Keep It" price which is lower than the MSRP and then close the account.

I'm tempted to cancel sometimes considering how many games are in my backlog too, but I instead use it to leverage trading (with CAGs/Goozexers/etc.). Their sales are really good and getting the gift certificates and 10% makes a difference.
Also, if you are eligible to trade in games with them, sometimes you can flip some cheap games and get store credit with them. Then switch to one game out a time and you're good to go. I hardly ever rent games with them, but rather use their service to "keep" the good ones. Their prices are excellent for newer titles (if you can get them in your Q and mailed to you of course). Best of luck fellow CAG! |

another consideration would be to buy in for a year so I'm at least paying less for it.

I finally did the unthinkable. Closed my gamefly account. Hot tip that may even be worth posting in the deals section. They offered me a month for $9.95 as I closed it. Might be worth it to threaten to close your account to see if the offer pops up
