Reports of Street Fighter IV Sell Out in Japan Greatly Exaggerated |

When I read this item about Street Fighter IV being sold out in Japan on Capcom's blog (thanks Daniel from Facebook), I was pretty surprised.
I was especially confused because, for a game that is completely sold out and with no copies to sell anywhere, I had no problem picking up a copy yesterday from my local game shop. In fact, I saw a a full box of Street Fighter IV games. Well, I guess it is possible (although highly unlikely) that in the last 24 hours, every copy in the country was gobbled up. Being the skeptic that I am, I decided to spend 5 minutes investigating. Yodobashi Camera Xbox 360 (in-store check) / PS3 (in-store check) Both versions are listed as in-stock online and in store. See all those blue circles when you check in-store stock? Yeah, that means "in-stock". Amazon Japan Xbox 360 / PS3 Both versions are in-stock. Hate to rain on your parade Capcom, but no, not sold out in Japan. Not yet anyway. UPDATE: Yodobashi just updated their site...Xbox 360 version is sold out online. UPDATE #2: Not only is the game in-stock, I've yet to find a place that is sold out! Tsutaya (Kameido), Enterking (Nishi Ojima), Yamada Denki (Kameido), Toys R Us (Kameido) Update #3: The Capcom blog post changed: Original
Revised
This revised statement is just as a preposterous as the original. How could Capcom know if every one of the thousands of stores in the entire country sold all their copies on day one? And, in less than 24 hours, all this information was conveyed back to SF IV's producer (during the SF IV event in LA) and all of Japan's stores were fully restocked. Sure. Also, during my travels today, I stopped by a few more stores, everyone of them had SF IV in-stock. If someone with Japanese language ability was so inclined, it wouldn't be much of a problem to call up a few stores and ask if their stock was depleted on Thursday. At this point, I'm going to "rest my case" as, at the very least, I've shown that my blog's headline is far more accurate than Capcom's. Anyway, I'm reasonably sure that this all comes down to the poster making the common mistake of not thinking before writing rather than a sinister attempt to mislead the gaming public. |

Pictures or it didn't happen. Even if it didn't sell out, any word on how well it's selling?

Why would Capcom say such a thing if it isn't true?

I wonder if the BS is coming from Capcom Japan or Capcom USA?
Although Cheapy's update says Yodobashi is out of the 360 version so maybe it is selling fast, just not as fast as someone from Capcom thought. I just hope either SF IV or Killzone 2 take the top spot for US game sales this month. I'm sick and tired of Wii crap in the top spots. |

I must say I'm a little worried for Capcom, so to speak. First, many people seem to be bashing RE 5 like crazy, now they start spreading rumors about SF IV... I have no doubt these games will sell well, but the real question is: will they sell well enough? I'm sure production costs on both games must have been huge. If EA had such losses, who knows how things really are at Capcom. Anyway, nice little conspiracy theory you uncovered Cheapy!

What little I glimpsed online said that around 85-86K units were sold, and that the title was "sold out." Which seemed to make me skeptical: the very idea that such an anticipated title would have a ludicrously low print run.
And holy jesus: Tai is soopa cute in that photo on the right. |

SFIV won't be that big of a release as people are making it to be. If anything, the sticks will sell more than the game. I wouldn't have believe that it sold out either. Isn't it more popular in the arcades in Japan anyways? =p

I'm all for this game selling well and Capcom with their awesome community. But I don't like lies. I sure Seth from Capcom really believes the game sold out. I just wish he back his post with facts before he started tooting his
ing horn. |

I was about to give him the benefit of the doubt and say maybe he meant that it was sold out on the distributor level, but then he had to say that none were available on store shelves.

Are man in japan pimps the evil game industry again! and here I was just about ready to do a line of coke, grab my handgun, and rob the first 10 year old I found with a copy of the game. phew... tragedy averted. Is that what you wanted Capcom!? I guess I'll just ignore the hype and see if gamefly sends it to me, and otherwise get on with my life.
