Am I living a real-life Unbreakable, or a real-life Final Destination? |

So yeah, I've been away for a week or two. Before you proceed, please read or at least skim my first blog entry from back in December.
It's not Christmas without a horrible accident. So in the aftermath of that, everything eventually got hashed out and I bought a new car ('09 Vibe GT). Wound up ok actually - my settlement left me with a few thousand extra left over for a downpayment and my monthly wound up being very managable. Not to mention they redesigned the car for 2009 and it looks a lot better; I liked it quite a bit more than my previous car. On 2/6, I took my lunch hour from work and went to a friend's younger sister's funeral. It was not a fun event, obviously. After the funeral I went back and finished out my day at work. On the way home, I was hit and run off the road AGAIN. This time it was even worse, as I rolled over twice and the car was damaged a more than the last time. Pics: 1 2 3 That car was three ing weeks old. Hell, the accident happened just a few miles from where the December one occured. I was looking at stats on how likely someone was to get into a rollover accident in their lifetime, it was pretty small. The likelihood of two rollovers in a month and a half timespan is absolutely miniscule. My friends urged me to buy a lottery ticket the next day.Once again I just walked away from it. Ribs were a little sore for a day or two but after that, nothing. Emerged from the car with an angry grunt when the hysterical woman that stopped to check on me started screaming and asking if I was ok. Like I said last time - that Vibe 5-star safety rating ain't no joke. This time I'm not so sure how I'll make out. Michigan has horribly limiting laws on what you can collect from the other guy. I did have gap insurance so I won't be upside-down on my car payments or anything, fortunately. Still, it's not like I'll get my sales tax back and I seriously doubt I'll get most of my $5000 downpayment back. I'd like to get the same car but I don't know if I'll be able to do that. I do wish bad things upon the prick who hit me though. I don't know if I'm indestructible, or if death is trying to get me and I'm on strike 2. The name of this blog suddenly scares me a little. --------------- I'm still planning on doing my EGM retrospective thing that I did a test run for in my second entry from several weeks back. It just hasn't really been top of mind for me with this car nonsense going on. |

+1 for the not-very-comforting cry of "well, at least you're ok."
I'm unclear based on your grammar - were you run off the road by the car, was it a hit and run, or both? |

That sucks but just be glad you weren't seriously injured in those roll-overs.

Myke - I was run off the road (very similar circumstances to what happened in December, actually). The guy didn't try to get away or anything, as his car had some pretty significant damage to it as well. Fortunately some people witnessed it and stopped to check on me so there were witnesses there for when the police arrived.

billyrox - yeah, sorry. I know this may read a little disjointed (posted it at work and was interrupted a few times as I was writing it up). Both times I was struck by someone who lost control of their vehicle. First time I could almost understand because the roads were absolutely horrible, I was not the only off-the-road accident in the 2-3 mile stretch where it happened. This second time was just random, the temperature was above freezing but it's very possible there was some residual ice under some water on the road or something. At least, that's what the guy who hit me claimed.

Hopefully it's Unbreakable so you can be a hero. If it's Final Destination, you just have to watch out for completely illogical ways to die and stay clear of those.

It's neither. Clearly someone has put a hit out on you.

I suggest whatever your next car will be, that you have a professional roll cage installed.
Because clearly, you really need it. |

That is truly bizarre. I call it a very unlikely coincidence. If it happens again though... then it's truly become insane.
Try to get that unbreakable idea out of your head, might cause you to unconsciously put yourself into dangerous situations... and you'll found out the hard way you were probably just very lucky, or in some OUT THERE way watched out for in the previous two situations. Have any post traumatic stress at all? Something to consider. |

I agree. I've never once actually said anything like "wow, I'm invincible" even as a joke since I'm not wanting to invite any more problems. As far as post-traumatic stress...no, not really. Only thing that annoys me right now is I'm driving like a wuss - not that I was a maniac before, I was pretty conservative in my driving even before this all went down - but I'm almost overly cautious right now and obviously that can bring its own set of problems. Whenever anyone is passing up alongside me on the left on the freeway I'm always keeping my eye on them. I know this is stuff I'll get over with time but it's kind of annoying. |
