Still wondering about homebrew talk in the CAGcast

I've actually posted an article at Classic Gamer Brain that goes into detail about what I mean. Basically, why don't they mention homebew or free games more often. Seems odd for a site called Cheap Ass Gamer...
So Cheapy and/or Wombat, let me know what the real deal is! |

i belive the reason it isint discussed is because to play most of these games on consoles and hand helds you either have to flash firmware or put in a modchip.which i think they dont have a problem with.but these things can also be used for bad though like bootleging games and i know that the cag community mostly feels strongly against piracy.so they just put a no talk policy on it.

The homebrew community feels strongly against piracy. So that doesn't make 100% sense. However, it's almost an unspoken rule, if they said it once and for all that they don't want to tread that line, I'd be happy.

^^The homebrew community may feel bad about piracy but just take the PSP for example. Custom firmware was made to support homebrew, but all it has done is made PSP games insanely easy to pirate.

It's because they pretty much always suck massive amounts of balls.

Pretty much, off the top of my head I can't think of any homebrew games that are at all worth playing, or in this case worth mentioning on the show.
Homebrew applications on the other hand... |

It's not an unspoken rule. It's a written one.
Take a walk over to the PSP forum, where you'll see stickied an announcement that no piracy or custom firmware threads are allowed. I imagine there are reasons beyond the obvious and stated ones, though I think it is unfortunate to proscribe all discussion because some of it is piracy related. |

All of these are great points. And I do understand and agree with most of them. Good original homebrew games are few and far between. Still, there are some shiners out there, and shareware or old games that have been opened which have been ported and make great additions.
As for the fact about the announcement. I feel the biggest leaps made for homebrew recently have been the Wii and DS, both of which don't require custom firmware to homebrew! Also, it is obviously pointed at the PSP. And I still don't feel this warrants a tight lip on homebrew period. |
