Ankiel robbed by MLB

So I just looked at stlcardinals.com and Pujols and Ludwick got on the team as reserves, and rightfully so, but Ankiel was screwed and left off the squad with no chance to be put on.
That's right, Ankiel didn't even make the vote for the 25th man. The men who the fans get to vote for that honor are: Pat Burrell Carlos Lee David Wright Corey Hart Aaron Rowand Now I have no problem with the first 3 of that list, but to tell me Hart or Rowand deserve a chance at that spot and Ankiel doesn't should be an insult to anyone who follows baseball. The 1-player per team requirement is filled with the first 24 players, the 25th spot shouldn't be to get a team a second player, it should be based solely on stats. And Ankiel's stats are superior to either Hart's or Rowand's. |

I think the biggest thing is average. He's batting, what, .265? While it's not bad, it's not really something to brag about. If anything, I would rather give Skip Somethingmaker the nod just for his average. That's just me though. I see average as still very importable. That's why, even as a Yankees fan, I didn't vote for Giambi. That, and he sucked for like 2 months.

Too bad Ankiel wasn't born in Japan, he'd definitely be on the All-Star team!

Oh and the stats:
Ankiel- .265/.339/.523 18 HR 45 RBI Hart- .296/.335/.515 14 HR 55 RBI Rowand- .300/.365/.463 8 HR 47 RBI So Ankiel is on base more and has more HR than Hart, and Ankiel has better power numbers than Rowand. Ankiel is also a better fielder than Hart and I would put him against Rowand any day of the week, especially his arm strength. |
