I took this picture today on the way to Tai's daycare. The 3DO was sitting exactly as pictured. No, I did not consider taking it home because: 1) It was dirty as hell and probably doesn't work 2) It had no cables or controllers 3) I was headed to the doctor for a checkup after dropping off Tai 4) It's a 3DO I twittered about it this morning and got some funny replies: http://twitter.com/Nanoia/ Why you didn't grab the 3DO ? The Doctor could examine that piece of crap too http://twitter.com/chrisamayo/ Only in Japan are you going to see a discarded 3DO in the streets. Are people making windchimes out of Dreamcast parts, too? http://twitter.com/KyleOrl/ "Lying on the street" is a good price for a 3DO! You've done it again! http://twitter.com/luftwaffles08/ a discarded 3DO is the worst omen there is. Follow CheapyD on twitter! |

This is just how Japanese children are punished when they misbehave or get bad grades :-)

You know, the City Electronic Control will be picking that up - and if not adopted - it's going to be euthanized.

It's always sad to see gaming heritage discarded. We have to care for and revere the consoles of yesteryear that don't do much, like old people.

This reminds me of the worst game-trading blunder of my life. When I was in the first year or two of high school, I traded virtually everything I owned for a Neo Geo system with 7 games and 2 controllers. Played it for a few months, and got bored with it. So I traded it to some guy for a Goldstar 3DO (the really crappy model) and like 3 games. Already a crappy deal, I know.
So after a while, the thing started to get screwy. Wouldn't boot games from time to time, etc. But it seemed to play Need for Speed fine, which my friend (same friend who had the Neo) liked. He offered me $30 for the system with Need for Speed. I took it. So to sum up, I pulled a reverse "red paperclip" trade in which I started with a about 4 systems, tons of games, a bunch of music, a lot more I'd like to forget about and ended up with $30 that I probably spent on food. |

Damn, Cheapy, I paid $600 for one of those back in the day. Oh well, Wing Commander was pretty great (that's all I can remember playing). Mine was the front loading model, it's probably on a street in Chicago somewhere....

My brother and I traded in both of our NES consoles, every NES game we owned, our SNES and every SNES we owned for a 3DO and we still had to fork over a couple of hundred. Worst trade ever.
Only made one more boneheaded trade before we learned our lesson. Genesis & all games for $40 off the PS1. Man I have spent way more replacing all that stuff than if I had just kept them and bought the PS1 & 3DO outright. Learned my lesson the hard way tho. |

I wonder if it some parent throwing out their 30 year old's closet? I can hear it now.
Son: "Mom were is my stuff?" Mom:" I threw it out." "Nnnn I mean thanks Mom that was the biggest waste of your money, sorry I was so demanding as a kid, Mom." Mom: "I love you son. Now find a wife. I want grandchildren."" |

I bought a Panasonic FZ-1 3DO in an Iowa City church sale for 75 cents and it came with a controller and cables. No games sadly, but it worked.
Needless to say, it was garbage, and I ended up selling it on eBay. Cheapy, I wonder if it would have fit in your poop bag. |

There must be a good story behind this. Like a marital dispute, or someone getting frustrated trying to play a zelda game?

Was this one of those Japanese hidden camera shows where they put things in front of you which steadily get larger and more expensive as you walk forward just so they see how you pick up the final, expensive but large and heavy item?
Japan is messed up. |
