Strange ps3 problems - no texture loading in games??? WTF! |

as much as i love my ps3, i have to go on a limb now and give it a bashing. Lately, when i try to go back and replay titles, some games the textures will NEVER LOAD. i know ps3 has some slow texture loading and texture POPINS... but im starting to get really pissed as im visiting some of my old games... and the textures arent ever loading.
and trust me when i say its bad... without the textures, everything looks like a ps2 game at best, and a shitty n64 game at worst... its really annoying me. Now, not all games do it... i just popped in haze about 2 weeks ago, and eventually ended shutting it off because the textures didnt load the whole first level. About a week ago i popped in oblivion game of the year edition, and no textures.... Now, just tonight, i was itching to play turok (which is a pretty damn good game actually) popped it in and started a new campaign.... BUT NO TEXTURES!!!! I think the weirdest thing is that this problem is all occuring for games i havent played in a LONG time. The said games didnt have this problem when i first played them. maybe that has something to do with it? anyone experience this problem before??? know a fix? know what the hell is causing it? anyone? ![]() .... PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN! /rant |

Mine started doing that right before my HDD gave out on me, ended up having to buy a new one.

I have that problem with Skate 2 when it loads up sometimes...but thats about it. I think my problem is just the game being slow.

The problem is with YOUR PS3, not the PS3 in general. Games where developers took the time to do things right (as opposed to half ass ports) don't have any slow texture loading, pop in, etc. (Killzone 2, MGS4).
That said, I hope you figure out the problem. N64 graphics are bad. It sounds like you are having a cacheing issue. Try a game that doesn't require any HDD install, versus one that requires an initial HDD install. If it happens on games that require a chunk to be installed on the HDD, it's probably a problem with the HDD. Likewise, if it's a game that runs 100% off the disc at all times, it's either a bad disc or the system's optical drive. Both HDD and optical drive are replaceable and can be done yourself if you have the know how |
