I read the the entry from Joystiq.com about how Team Ninja wants to steer away from the "hyper violence" of Ninja Gaiden 2 into a more focused game for Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 (the ps3 remake of ng2). If youve never played either of the recent Ninja Gaiden games, it boils down to over-the-top stylistic bloodbath. You slice a ninja and with that pours gallons upon gallons of blood everywhere. And so on and so forth...

Blood and gore were huge when the first Moral Kombat came out way back in 1992, and it was a cool thing to see an "r-rated game" for lack of a better term, simply because it wasnt done before, (with great success). Watching spines ripped out, buckets of blood on the floor was a sight to see back in the day, but over 15 years later...

...i feel desentizised about it. No longer does it feel gratifying to shoot someone in a videogame and watch bloodtrails or arms flying off or whatnot. I just dont feel it anymore. I just move on to the next enemy and do it all over again, like some sort of zombie. Maybe the industry is to blame for oversaturating the market with these types of games. Maybe its my fault for playing so many of them.

Either way, i think its time for the next step forward. There has to be something innovative out there that will catch the hardcore gamers eye and go on to be a profitable business product. Its quite possible NGS2 could do that, (even though theyre merely tweaking an already bloody game). Hopefully their next project will be something more concrete and original in this matter and prove to be a big success.

It would be nice to see other developers follow suit as well.

Play Madworld. it takes over-the-top stylistic bloodbaths a to a new level. I mean, last year Suda 51 said No More Heroes was going to be the most violent game ever, which was pretty crazy considering Manhunt 2 had just came out. Sure, the difference is realistic versus celshaded graphics, but if NMH is the benchmark, then Madworld easily toppled it. Of course if you do play that (or either of those, I guess), they will desentizise you even more.
