Making an all-encompassing handy-dandy fix-it USB flash drive. |

I'm attempting to make an all-encompassing handy-dandy fix-it USB flash drive. So far I've made it bootable with the Ultimate Boot CD (and all the applications included therein), and I've added the PortableApps menu with the following:
Also, I've got install packages on there for: Any other suggestions for useful portable utility applications? |

WeaponX2099> 2GB, but I may bump over to a 4GB if necessary.

I'm not familiar with all of those, but how do you run all of these programs without an OS? Sounds like a great idea, I'd be interested in doing something similar.

Running it "without an OS" isn't quite how it works, except for the Ultimate Boot stuff.
http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ You can actually burn a CD that is not OS specific and run tests, diagnostics, etc, as long as it's able to boot from a CD drive. However, you can also make a bootable Ultimate Boot USB key if a computer can be booted via a USB drive, it's still "experimental" and some of the apps may or may not work. The PortableApps menu is just a program launcher for Windows based PCs, and the programs are installed to and run from the USB drive. http://portableapps.com/about/what_is_a_portable_app Firefox, for example, you can keep all of your business, like your bookmarks, cookies, passwords, etc on the drive, so when you yoink the drive, everything goes with you. The install packages for Spybot, AVG, etc, are just on there so they can be installed on a troublesome PC if needed. |

Put Puppy Linux on it. You can boot from it. Also I would add Malware Bytes and/or Hijak This!

I've heard great things about UBCD4WIN. I remember the last time you posted this like a year ago... >_>

Forgot to mention - geek.menu is a cooler version of portableapps. It's very similar, (It's based on it) but it offers more features.

Also keep in mind not to focus too hard on this. If you finish putting everything on today, it's outdated by morning.
