Batman Arkham Asylum Demo

I was very fortunate to be at my local Best Buy during lunch today and found that they had a 360 and PS3 kiosk setup with Batman Arkham Asylum playable.

Now the demo they had up did not allow you to play the story portion of the game. All that was selectable was the Challenge mode where wave after wave of street thugs come out and try to bash you in, so I gave it a go. I have to say first impressions I am impressed with how it handles. Now here is the tricky part not that its bad but as you press the attack button depending on the direction you point at Batman will strike at the opponent. So if I am surrounded by a group lets say and I start swinging in the middle of a combo I go from the next guy to the next guy. It felt like the targeting system from Too Human but better.

I kept hearing the voice of Joker after every round give his opinion of that round only to say the next round is going to get harder. I made it just to the 6th round when the opponents looked different, some guys had shirts other wore hoodies.

There are some slow motion effects mostly when its the last guy standing and its a finishing blow.

Its a decent brawl I did not get a chance to try the stealth aspect seeing as how Batman took on these guys in just a room surrounded by electricity. It a fun game the only issue I had is that I can see myself get tired of this game very fast if this is what it offers again this is just a demo of the challenge mode so when the full game comes out maybe there is more to it.

Can you agree with me that Batman is the most overrated thing ever? Am I the only one who thought Dark Knight sucked?

What you described in your blog makes it seem that Batman is going to be just a standard beat em up. Watch this game get unnecessary praise and good reviews just for it being Batman.

dim2192, while we all have our opinions (Batman is my favorite superhero so I strongly disagree) I'm not sure if I understand how exactly a superhero can be overrated...

dim2192, yes, ur the only one who thinks TDK WASN'T awesome, and it wasn't just because of batman, it was just a great movie. End of Story.

Anyway, surprised this demo is already in stores. Wish you could tell us what the story mode is like, but beggars can't be choosers (or something) .

dim2192, you probably are the only one. But its somewhat obvious considering your avatar is Guitar Hero when everyone knows Rock Band is clearly way better. So we know your taste isn't up to par with everyone else's.

The demo is ridiculously fun. I'm just hoping that the actual game itself adds more to the game rather than just a fun button-mashing beat-em-up.
That game looks sweet. I saw a kiosk at a Gamestop with that but I thought it was only a video. Guess I missed out on some straight up batman.

Right now the demo is just a button mash up. You basically used only 2 buttons to take out a room full of guys over and over again. I never had a chance to use any tactic. Hopefully the final game will offer alot more.

There is a video online with Batman jumping around and stealth take downs. But hopefully you have to do this. I don't want a generic beat 'em up. And even though the controls were bad Dark Tomorrow has a great story.

The games look interesting and an Arkham setting seems ideal for a game. Hopefully the full version of the game has enough depth.

I'm with you, dim2192. I think The Dark Knight is meh and I don't understand all the love for the film. However, this game looks good.

I thought that everyone hated Batman video games. They're rarely any good.

The big deal with Arkham Asylum was that they actually were putting some effort into it instead of trying to make it a quick cash-in.

TDK was good, but I think it was a joker movie not a batman movie. Im going to have to keep an eye out for this next time i am out and about. I am very looking forward to this but also very cautious of another crap fest batman game.
