Finished the 3rd disc of Lost Odyssey this morning and put in the 4th disc when asked. Put it in and waited...waited...and...BAM...read disc error. Decided it was just a mistake and restarted the system, no luck. Tried cleaning it, installing it on the hard drive, and yet, still no dice. Did this numerous times throughout the day before giving up.

Went online and looked it up on Google. Seems the problem lies in the packaging when Microsoft put the disc in a paper sleeve, which created residue on the disc. Thanks Microsoft.

I've heard some success stories of actually putting the game in boiling water. Tried it myself. Boiled some water, looked for a pair of tongs, and inserted the disc into the hot water. Held that position for a good 2-3 minutes before taking it out, letting it cool, and drying it off with a paper towel.

Put it into the 360 and holy crap, it worked. Installed onto the HDD just fine and the game ran very smooth.

Putting a good 25+ hours into a game to only be shut out by a disc error message is a really bad feeling...I'm just glad I didn't have to shell out some bucks to buy another copy.

So, yeah....that's really all I did today...what a life.

YAY for packaging.

Interesting.
And we were totally gipped with the packaging of that game.

Which is stupid because the fourth disc fits on the spindle just fine.

Wow, I have never heard of this. I would never of guessed this would work. Glad it did for you though.
That's awesome. No gameplay issues?

Hmmm, interesting! I had the exact same issue with the four disc but boiling it? I may have to try this.

That's why I love having the Japanese 4 disk case.

and i used to think putting my SNES cartridges in the fridge for 5 mins was crazy!

actually. the same exact thing happened to me. when i got to disc 4, it would only play for a little, if at all, before freezing and giving me a disc read error. Unfortunately, i ended up just buying a new copy after many failed attempts to clean the disc. Nothing worked for me. I ended up selling my old game AS IS and got about $18 for it, so i really only spent $12 on the new copy....

still though....... :/

Good to know just in case I encounter the same problem when I finally take a crack at the game.

Maybe boiling the actual 360 will remove the RROD syndrome. Give it a shot, people!

Wow the same thing happened to my disc 4. I had checked google and wasn't sure if it would work. Nice to know it did. I'm going to try it this week. Did you dip the entire disc into the water?
Ichigo1993's Avatar
I actually poured the boiled water into a bowl with the whole disc in it (readable side up). I'd recommend leaving it in there for about 6-7 minutes before taking it out.

I was thinking of taking the disc to Gamecrazy to get it buffed, maybe get some of the gunk off from that crappy packaging, but I'll try this too. Have you had any freezing issues, etc?

I'm actually playing from my HDD after I installed it on there. I'm about 2 hours into the 4th disc and I haven't seen any slowdowns.

Although, the sound of my 360 reading the disc is much more faster and the difference is very noticeable when comparing before the boiling and after.
