Are you ok with microsoft charging you more? DLC and ARCADE Games discussion |

It's hard to believe that in one year the XBL Market Place has become so massive. I remember when Geometry Wars was the cutting edge of what was on there. Now we have MvC2 and Battlefield 1943, but damn these games are ing expensive. I know this is the bait for heated gamer arguments but I honestly think this is our damn fault. We let Braid get buy with charging us almost twice the amount of the usual XBLA game. Braid, the game no one even knew about till the day it was released. I make no accusations on the content of braid, a great game with brilliant play mechanics, but was it really WORTH more than Bionic Commando Re-armed?. Yes it was independently developed, but so are all the XNA games and you dont see them going for 1200 points. Braid opened the door, from 800 to 1200 in one year. Fallout 3 and GTA are like the collectors for a protection agency, you wanna play in our neigborhood you have to pay. Fallout 3 will end up costing you about $113.00 including (if you choose to buy) dlc and game. DAMN! FUCKING DAMN! Yes each bit of content is better than the last, but this is killing my wallet. Especially when you factor in that one of the DLC's (Broken Steel) changes the outcome of the endgame and allows for higher perk and level increases. So are you ok with this?. Developers and publishers dont usually pick the price of the DLC"s and Arcade games, they have a say but MS gives the final word, and I know we have heard stories of people not agreeing to these terms and pulling out, or being strong armed. I know, personally, this urks me. Im sure that they will eventually want to sell some of those 4000 point cards lining store shelves, next summer maybe. |

Well there are still deals on DLC and XBLA games. You just gotta wait unfortunately.
I think if theres enough showing of disinterest a game will drop. Case in point no one wanted to pay $15 for TMNT Reshelled so it dropped to $10. I'm still suprised Samuari Shodown II holds at $10 considering everyone was gonna jump on it at $5. I'd say a majority of the arcade games are ownable at $10 or less but once they went $15 that was a bit steep. Honestly the only arcade game I've been cool buying at $15 was MVC2 and that's only because my eBay copy sold for $72. |

First of all, I just want to say how ridiculous their marketplace point system is in the first place. Rather than put a price tag on their content like PSN or having a point system that makes sense like Wii (100 points = $1), they have some convoluted crap where 400 points = $5.25 or something like that. It's annoying and makes it hard to know what you are spending on things (which I think is their plan).
With that said, I personally think Microsoft charges too much for some of their content, particularly their arcade titles. I thought $5 - $10 was a pretty decent range since they are usually just arcade ports or Genesis titles. Now they have been charging $15 - $20 for games like Braid or Castle Crashers, which don't get me wrong, they are great games. But if I'm going to shell out that much cash for one title, I would rather spend it on a budget title that comes on a disk with a case and booklet. Perhaps I am alone in thinking this, but as much as I enjoyed Braid, it was not worth the price I paid. |

Monsta Mack, I agree. Samurai Shodown 2 is way overpriced at $10.
cloudmd23, Braid WAS overpriced. As for the price to point system, its a hard argument because most things fall under a small tree in the Marketplace. |

I can justify spending points on games or DLC that I like, but I can never justify paying for gamerpics and themes. THAT annoys me more than anything.

Some of those premium themes are ludicrous. Also another point I forgot to bring up was the Netflix/ XBL Video issue. Now that Netflix has streaming on XBL you would think that the rental and purchase prices for the marketplace would go down.

Really overpriced? You guys are cags. You shouldn't be paying retail for points anyway. xD

Hey, sometimes the deals are not there. Points is points though, Sometimes I want to get more than 1 item with a 1600 point card.

I agree with sokmaster. The worst is that you can't even preview themes before you spend the money on them. What a ripoff...

Well I was not part of the problem as I didn't buy Braid because of its price. I got it for free from the Spike TV Video Game Awards show offer.

Microsoft may use Microsoft Points, but at least you don't get charged tax because of it.

I can't justify paying for downloads like that. You don't keep them and can't sell them.

You guys are such cheapasses
Fallout 3 does not cost $113 if you're a CAG. One, you could buy the GotY edition coming soon for $60 (probably much else of course |

you mean..wait months for a goty edition to save a few bucks? by then all the latest games will be coming out and you won't want to really play it as much. plus, that's an option to get all the add-on dlc. I think dlc for games are a rip off. I can't recall the last game that had dlc that was worth it. Halo 3? You have to buy all the maps and have them all in order to play ranked team slayer and other game types in halo 3. Call of duty? Both 4 and world at war map packs aren't worth buying for $10 (800 ms points) each. Gears of war 2? Maybe..I got the deal for All Fronts for 800 points when they had it out 2 weeks early by mistake but even at 1600 points that's been okay. Other than that, you see the pattern and every game has dlc and it's not even worth it. Heck, even space invaders extreme has dlc that adds space invaders 1 & 2 which is only like 100 kb and that costs 240 points aka $3. Dlc that small is locked in and you are only paying for the licensing permission to unlock it. That's another thing that bothers me. I think xbl arcade games are getting overpriced and braid is not worth $15 in my opinion. I had some points left over from a giveaway and bought it. Other than that, I wouldn't have bought it. Not many games are worth the money that's why you see xbox live arcade retail discs being released because it's cheaper and a better deal that way.

Here's something new.
Valve is releasing a new campaign for the original Left 4 Dead free on the PC but for 560 on the Xbox. Microsoft's handiwork? |

punisher, Im speaking more for those of us that already bought the game a year ago though. 4000 for 30? I really need to check the deal threads and sticky threads more often.
Indignate, Im pissed as ! |

With the amount of content the Fallout DLC adds, it's easily a full second game. $113 < $120 (had it been a second game)

JJSP, are you sure about that? if someone packaged all the dlc from Fallout 3 and sold it as fallout 4, that would be good? I always hear people saying "Its easily worth the price of a full retail game" but if it WAS a full retail game, would they really say that?

Am I ok with seeing games that would have never have a space in the physical retail market?
Yes, yes I am. |
