Tried calamari, slammed door at Comcast, worked 60+ hours, and recent life events

All right, it has been a while since I had the chance to really blog. I pretty much had no life last weekend. I had a bunch of things happen which I'd love to discuss.
First off, one of my friend G-Nitro on CAG was having his birthday party at DuClaw. Most would think I'd skip out on going out to a bar since it was the day of the Sony press conference along with other things at E3. Nope, while I watched some of the press conference as I got home from work, I headed out as quickly as possible. Met with some of his co-workers and friends. I considered having beer while I was at DuClaw, but didn't feel like consuming a large portion of it. Also, it was a place with a bunch of microbrews I never heard of, and I wasn't really sure what to try. Regardless, everyone told me to try something that looked kind of like an Onion Ring. They told me it was Calamari, which I ate and didn't think was too bad. After they told me it was squid, I honestly couldn't believe I ate it,... |

CHEAP ASS GAMER After Party at the GOLDEN GOPHER IN DOWNTOWN L.A!
I just got into town Weds, and what better timing than being able to make the CAG night at Golden Gopher! It was amazing to see Cheapy D, Wombat, Shipwreck and plenty o' CAGs at the packed downtown L.A. bar. I brought two friends and ended up staying till pretty late (almost 1am?) and drinking a good amount of free alcohol! I admit, I was a bit nervous meeting my favorite internet celebrities, but they really made my night and it was great to finally greet them in person after listening to the CAGcast for about 5 years! Cheapy D was incredibly tall and he looked like he was having a blast. Wombat was very short in comparison and he was so friendly. Shipwreck was almost exactly like I imagined him, a cool, down to earth guy. I also introduced myself to some CAGs, if you saw me there please post a comment. I don't think I know a single CAG in real life, so it was great to... |

Are the E3 blogs over yet?

So I would like to start off by saying, "I am horrible, absolutely horrible at English".
Still though, I don't understand why people still confuse "your" and "you're". Also, "there", "they're", and "their". I mean I got a whole 1040 on my SATs and the 40 percentile on my GMAT but YOUR is a possessive and YOU'RE is short (can't remember the word for it) for you are. Honestly, I can understand that some people misuse the "the..." ones but I dunno. Your an idiot because these are you're books not mine. I guess my biggest fear would be that 'your' becomes some popular in any context that it actually becomes grammatically correct to use it in any context. :/ |

Seriously, what is a "Gamer" ?
By PaoMo 06-18-2010 11:15 AM

okay cause i got into an argument with my cousin today. Alot of people are really snobby and go:
"oh you're not a real gamer cause you've never played the original zelda/sonic/mario and you are really lame because you just play crap like call of duty and guitar hero" But seriously, just because i haven't played zelda for the gameboy, or just because i like castlevania for the ps2 better than on the ds, what makes me any less of a gamer than anyone else? i mean his argument was that the original zelda games were where it all started and if you wanna judge a zelda game you have to play the original zelda games first. I simply replied "with so what?" That is purely your opinion. Just because its the original game, does it make the ACTUAL GAME any better? So guys would you please tell me. what is the defenition of a "Gamer" because i hate that some poeple think that other people "dont deserve to be called gamers"... |

What are you playing this weekend?

Friday
This has got to be the slowest work week I have encountered in a very long time. Not to mention the Lakers won a championship last night and it makes it a long day for me from some of my friends. Im an equal opportunity hater, I hate the Celtics and I hate the Lakers. But shout out to Ron Artest who thanked his "hood" at the end of the game. This weekend should prove to be very busy, Saturday were going to Holiday World. For those who don't know what that is, its basically a water theme park. All around the park are themes of Holidays. To me its more of a childs theme park. Not much for grown ups to find if you enjoy Roller Coasters and Thrill Rides. Only a couple to be found at Holiday World. But it should be an ok time permitted I don't blow up from the sun. Gaming will come as it always does, at night time. Mass Effect 1 is close to being finished so I am going to try and finish it up while playing some Gears 2 for 6x exp and... |

Penguin's Toy Story 3 Movie Review
By Penguin1084 06-18-2010 11:13 AM
|
|
About 2 months ago, I wrote a blog detailing my experience that I had the day of the Toy Story 3 Cliffhanger viewing (a chance to see the first 70 minutes of the movie). After only seeing the first 70 minutes of the movie, I was blown away. After seeing the rest of the movie, I was blown away even more. So here's the review I promised everyone! (Spoiler tagged portions are minor spoilers that you may have gotten from trailers/interviews)
It's been 11 years since Toy Story 2. Many claim that Toy Story 2 could've been a fine ending to the series and that Toy Story 3 wasn't necessary. Well, at the end of Toy Story 2, you're left with Woody telling Buzz that even when the time comes for Andy to move on, they will have each other. In Toy Story 3, that's all they have, each other. ... |

Filling the Red Dead Void |
|
So I just beat Red Dead Redemption (which was an awesome game) and now there is a big gaming void in my life. I am still pretty addicted to Bad Company 2, but since my Xbox is in the living room (I primarily play on my PS3 in the bedroom) and I pretty much only get to play that when the kids and wife are asleep/away, I bought/traded/gamefly'd a bunch of games to help fill the Red Dead void and I think I may have overdone it....
Super Mario Galaxy 2 (for when the kids and wife want to watch me play) Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands Alan Wake 3D Dot Game Heroes Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker Transformers (shipping from Gamefly next week) This may not seem like a big list to a lot of you who have 30 game backlogs, but my problem is that I only have a few hours to play a week and I want to play all of these games right now! I'd much rather be at home playing Prince of Persia than writing this blog while sitting at my desk and pretending... |

Fuzzy (draft)

Warm and fuzzy you make me,
Warm and fuzzy you make me, believe me this feeling is silly. Warm and fuzzy you do it to me. I know you think it's uncomfortable, but you do it to me, flustered in a cluster you make me fuzzy. Every night feels dark and cold, lying here awake when your voice is unattainable to contain. It calms me when life seems a little in despair. Your words can say nothing, but mean a whole lot of joy no matter what you say. You're special in everyway When you call it's a song that goes… Warm and fuzzy you make me, Warm and fuzzy you make me, believe me this feeling is silly. Warm and fuzzy you do it to me. I know you think it's uncomfortable, but you do it to me, flustered in a cluster you make me fuzzy. Today you're in New York City closer... |

BP responds to a coffee spill
By joeboosauce 06-18-2010 07:49 AM

If you haven't seen this, its a humorous take on a serious disaster. It occured to me a while ago that major oil wells in the mideast go for 50-100 years. This one in the Gulf was to be a big find for BP and right now, no one can say how long this leak could go on for. Look at all the damage in this short time and consider the damage a year, decade, or 50-100 years would do. So how long before ALL the world's oceans are infected and then die? What happens once all the oceans die? This could very plausibly be the beginning of the end. And it doesn't appear the leadership and the rest of humanity have come to terms with the real potential of this disaster. Well, here is some humor that sums up how inept the people who created this are. I highly recommend going to the website I got this from below. They have some phenomenal stuff on there.

With Friends Like These
By kburns10 06-18-2010 03:32 AM
|

So my friend Ashley just left my place. During an intense round of Dead Space she tried crossing in front of the television to get back to her seat. I had my plug and play charge kit in and she didn't see it (it was Dead Space so lights off was the only way to play). Needless to say she quickly jumped in front of the tv, tripped on the chord, and flipped my Xbox over. It didn't fall over, it FLIPPED over. Surprisingly, Dead Space let me finish my boss fight. But if I take 3 more steps after that it freezes. Every time.
She offered to get me a new copy of the game, but I'm worried this might permanently affect my console. This happened to me once before when I had a Wii and people got too excited over Wii Baseball. I had it on the carpet and someone jumped up after hitting a home run. The Wii fell over, but looked to be fine. Soon after though I started getting occasional disc read errors. I guess I'm writing this because I'm wondering if 1. anyone else has had something... |

Please support my blog by voting on my poll.
All the big reveals and announcements from this year's E3 have come and gone, so now it's time to make a list of my most hotly anticipated games from this year's floor. Some we've seen before from past E3s, while most are brand spanking new. Here's my top ten personal picks based on anticipation and excitement solely. Let's get this started! 10) Golden Sun: Dark Dawn (DS) The Golden Sun trilogy comes to a close with Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, the third installment of this fun RPG series. This time touch screen support and full 3D visuals. Join Isaac and the gang as they battle a new evil that threatens Weyard. It seems like forever, but Gran Turismo 5 is finally coming out to racing-hungry PlayStation 3 owners. Part 3D, part 2D, the platforming renaissance is on and it's on Wii. Nintendo aims to correct this with the visually astounding Kirby's Epic Yarn with backgrounds and characters made up of yarn and carpeting. TLP's Family Day Out [AND NONE OF IT'S RELATED TO E3!]
By thelonepig 06-17-2010 09:56 PM
|
|
The last few weeks have been non-stop in the TLP household. We've had to get rid of birds nesting in our soffit, are in the midst of combating voles in the backyard, and a wind storm blew a good number of shingles off our home. When I'm not working on home activities, I've spent a good number of hours at work over the past two months, exceeding 50 hours in some weeks and getting pretty close to it in the others. It'd be all well and good were I not salaried.
So I finally decided to take the day off to spend time with my family and we ventured off to the Hogle Zoo. Well, the kids loved it! Prairie Doggin'. Baby elephant. She's sleeping - I didn't realize that elephants sleep standing up and only for short spurts (15 or so minutes)! ... |

Who am I? |
|
I noticed that I've been a member of this site for a while, made two recent blogs, and have about 370 posts, yet I've never really introduced myself.
First off, I'm a gamer. I love playing video games and plan on working for Microsoft when I become of age. My name is Jeff Acs(pronounced acs.) I'm only 15, but have a job and am pretty smart. I started reffing hockey when I was 11, delivering news papers when I was 12, and started working at Arby's a few months ago. When I turn 16 I plan on working over at Gamestop. I then want to go to a college near Seattle and start an internship with Microsoft and eventually work for them. Although I plan on working for Microsoft, that doesn't mean I'm a fanboy. I see their mistakes and make note of them. I've learned from their mistakes so when I'm in the hotseat making big decisions I won't make those mistakes. Also, the reason I want to work for Microsoft is because of their potential. Microsoft has done so much, but could do so... |

The State of The Boatcrash Chronicles
By meager 06-17-2010 08:31 PM
|
|
I haven't uploaded a comic in a couple weeks, because my computer seems to enjoy freaking out. My graphics program is older than my version of Windws, which is always a bad combination. Now it has taken to random (and frequent) freezing, often locking up my entire computer.
So after many, many hours of lost work and frustration, I've decided to post strips with minimal computer enhancements. This means, simply, no color until I straighten out the situation. Which, when combined with stress at work, could be some time. I may cut back to just one strip a week since the weekend "storyline" is completed. We shall see. For now, however, please enjoy the comics in their simplified state... |

E3 Report - Is Retro Gaming The Way Of The Future?
By ChaseTheChuckwagon 06-17-2010 05:34 PM
|
|
After three days of E3 and the last day here, I think an interesting trend has been seen, recurring and (personally) welcomed. Retro gaming is coming back with a vengeance. Now I may not mean retro in the traditional sense of the word but it's easy to see that games are drawing inspiration from the Golden Age of Gaming.
Even though with every E3 and every TGS and every other little expo we get a little farther into the future, we've taken a few steps back this year. But in a good way. The example that stands out most in my mind, as of right now, is the new Mortal Kombat. Now's it easy to see that they have definitely taken a page from the SSIV book and decided to go the 3D/2D way. Which makes the game seem more promising and more intriguing than anything they've released in the past two generations of consoles. Another great example is the Donkey Kong Country returns. As a kid, DK and DIddy spent numerous hours on my television screen, running across... |
