You cannot buy an iPad with Cash

By poker360 05-19-2010 01:14 PM
Did anyone know this?

You must pay with another form of money.. Credit / Debit / check.

Kinda dumb that they won't accept cash for them. I heard this on the radio, some person saved up money to go buy one and said they couldn't buy it with $500 worth of money because they need to be able to "Track it" and make sure they don't buy a lot and sell them "overseas"

Playing in May

Updated by eldergamer 05-19-2010 02:40 PM
So what have I been playing in May?

Devil Survivor! Finished off Belial last night to clear Day 6 and now I just need to pick a route and clear out day 7 to be -done- with this game. If there werent 10 other DS rpgs I wanted to play I'd play though again to get a different ending, but there are.

Dragon Quest IV got a little bit of time the past couple weeks. I'm at the 5th chapter and about to get Ragnar back into my party but it looks like the Lion/Leon boss will trouble me.

Started playing Crash of The Titans. I really enjoyed the old Crash games on the original PS, but this one doesnt have the same platforming feel and is more combat and combo based. And the combat/combos seem a little slow and clunky. The game was only $7 and it's been pretty easy so far.
Odin Sphere - I havent played this in over two weeks now. It seemed promising but even on my first two hours of playing I got stuck on a boss that took nearly 10...

Thoughts on the Motion Controls

By ffboi7 05-19-2010 10:34 AM
With this current gen of systems it seems like controllers are slowly dying out but why is that? Game controllers have been around for a long time and have improved over time and now their about to get replaced by motion controllers. I have a feeling one day I will say to my grandchildren "I remember back in the day when you could play games without having to move your arms around like a complete retard.". This whole fad on motion controllers is a bit annoying. It was fine when it was just the Wii but now that the PS3 and 360 are both getting motion controllers its going way too far. And since most casual gamers will probably buy the PS Move and Natal for its family filled fun experience it can also lead to the death of the normal game controller as we know it.

I get this feeling that Sony and Microsoft just don't care as much anymore for their main audience and are trying to do what Nintendo has been doing which was getting the "non-gamers" to buy their...

Red Dead Redemption first thoughts

By AlexLeSage 05-19-2010 07:51 AM
Well I pre-ordered Red Dead Redemption and picked it up yesterday. It's a really fun game, but since of people overloading servers (or something) I couldn't put it in my code OR play online.

But when I played single player it was all really well put together. The enviroments look nice, the lasso is f'n awesome and deadeye is a thrill to use.

The horses look and feel right, just riding them and picking up speed is something to get used to, not a big learning curve but still something to get used to.

The thing that gets on my nerve is the hand-to-hand fighting. It isn't that good. You basically just keep hitting Right-Trigger (or R2) and he does the same 3-comboover and over until you are prompted to press Y (or triangle) to tackle and finish him off.

Overall I really like this game and I will blog again when I get onto multiplayer and get my Dead Eye outfit. Back in the afternoon (5 hours-ish) to update.

Need Fast Food Advice

By DV8 05-19-2010 01:54 AM
So I'm a college student on a relatively low budget with really no time to cook or if I have time to cook I don't have time to go shopping. I've narrowed it down to eating out for dinner 4 nights a week ~$3 a visit. This allows me to spend a little extra on nicer meals during the weekend and some fun stuff too. This is what I was eating before but suddenly all fast food places either changed their menu or raised prices.

Jack in the Box $.99 Jumbo jack -> $1.29 -> $1.39 + small fry + tax ~~ $3.15ish

Taco Bell $.89 5-layer burrito -> $1.39 x2 + $.99 taco ~~ $4ish

Burger King $.99 Whopper Junior -> $1.19 x2 + small fry ~~ $3.75ish

Arby's $5.95 for 5 Roast Beef sandwiches -> replaced with the EFFIN Small value RBS ~~ $0 because it's not worth it.

The best deal was probably the Taco bell deal before the price jump, the best tasting was probably Arby's before the menu change. Burger King tastes better...

No physical copy? No thank you. Then again...

By gr8asianman 05-19-2010 12:12 AM

Years ago when I first heard about digital downloads I was extremely resistant to the idea. However, my positive experiences with XBLA, PSN, iTunes, and Steam have turned that outlook around. The majority of my digital purchases undoubtedly come from the Xbox Live Arcade, which I'm pretty sure the majority of gamers are familiar with. Arcade games and down-loadable content take up a good chunk of my hard drive and the ongoing 'Deal of the Week' ensures that I have a supply of points readily available so I don't miss that weekly bargain. In addition, the fact that I can actually play a trial of the arcade games, thus hopefully preventing me from buyers remorse, makes digital downloads via XBLA even better. My only gripe is that every time I get my 360 back from a RROD I need to do that content license transfer tool so I can access my content when not connected

Modnation Racers demo

I finally got around to trying the ModNation Racers demo for the PSP. I would have got to it sooner, but in order to play it, I had to decide to lose my progress in Ape Escape. I tried it a few more times before making my decision, but finally just decided I don't want to mess with it anymore. So, I was able to play the demo, finally, and also can start some of my other PSP games.

I have to say, the demo doesn't offer nearly as much the PS3 beta, but it still gives a good idea of the overall racing and a very basic look at creating tracks. The racing is great and a lot of fun, it works very well on the PSP, though I do prefer the Dualshock controls over the PSP, but it isn't a big issue. The two tracks that are open allow you to get a good feel for the racing, without spoiling too much of

Single Player

By L0sther0 05-18-2010 01:03 PM
Why is Single player a bad thing in reviews. Lately when a game is reviewed if it lacks multi player or co-op it is rated lower or looked down upon. It could be the best single player campaign ever crafted yet it still gets mentioned that, sorry gamers you'll be playing this adventure alone. Some how FF 13 avoided this but then again i do not think anyone expected it either.

Multi player is a good thing. It is driving a lot of people to video games and some games them selves are truly well crafted, multi player only experience. But those same games do not get Reviewed negatively for their lack of a well crafted single player campaign. Even Moder Warfare 2, which had a really short campaign was praised for its multi player and became one of the fasted selling games.

Maybe im just to old school of a gamer. I mean my first system was an intelevision. I still view co-op and multi player as extras for most games. I Value a well crafted single player game and don't...

Chinese Hackers

By kcreject 05-18-2010 12:16 AM
OK so Chinese hackers are trying to own me. Apparently a few days ago they got in my email , jacked my battlenet account and just randomly pissed me off.
I have changed all my passwords and done multiple scans on my system to make sure I am now chinese dickweed free.

Has this happened to anyone else here and am I forgetting to do anything that I may need to do?

Any help would be appreciated.

gr8asianman's sweet pickups!

By gr8asianman 05-17-2010 11:53 PM

"Willie Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971)" was undoubtedly one of my favorite movies growing up. I remember the first scene of Charlie checking out his local candy store and eying all those uber-delicious Wonka bars. Then, while I was at Wal-Mat, I came across these on one of the end caps by the front registers and knew I had to buy them . I rarely eat candy, so I still haven't scarfed them down yet but at some point this week I'll tackle the Scrumdiddlyumptious bar, which I'm looking most forward to. Moving along to my gaming related pickups...

SuperPhillip Asks: What was the last game you've purchased/received as a gift?

By SuperPhillip 05-17-2010 10:51 PM
For me, that would be 3D Dot Game Heroes for the PS3.
It just came in the mail today, so yippie for that.
I love Zelda, and classic old school homages like this one tickle my fancy.

Sorry for the delay on your regularly scheduled BevNerd program! I had a super busy week that included buying a new car (09 Nissan Versa) and setting up a yard sale during US 11 Antique Alley.

Anyway, I try Big Red soda and Not Just Cereal (Fruity O's). I also found something neat at US 11 Antique Alley and purchased it for only fifty cents!

If you want to be a super awesome BevNerd friend, please leave feedback in the form of comments or "liking" things or star ratings! Please and thank you!

Have major headache now & I had to try new deodorant

By The Mana Knight 05-17-2010 04:53 PM
Updated by The Mana Knight 05-17-2010 05:05 PM
Some might think by the title of my blog, it means that new deodorant I got is giving me a headache. Well, that actually isn't the case, but there are two things on my mind right now.

First off, I'll start with the headache. I've been having a major headache since Friday afternoon. It's been really hard for me to do anything, whether its use my computer, play a video game, drive places, and even affected me at work. Some might just say take medicine, but there's a reason for my headache. I use to get headaches almost everyday, where I could feel the pain in my left eye. I'd take medicine for the headache at times which somewhat helped, but I kept getting one. Early this year, I ended up getting my eyes checked and found out I really did need glasses (due to pretty bad astigmatism and both my left and right eyes being very different). Once I started wearing glasses and getting adjusted to them, my headaches completely vanished. I was seeing much better (especially...

My Week In Review / Pickup

By 1NintendoFan 05-17-2010 04:00 PM
This week I'm going to try out a new format for my blogs to make it a little easier to read. Basically, I'm going to list each topic like a headline with whatever I write about it in a spoiler tag. That way you can read what you are interested in, the game reviews for example, and skip anything you aren't interested in.

Originally, that was my only change planned, but I decided to go a little further. I was going over what I had written last week for this weeks blog and realized, once again, it was too long (shocking!) So, I've decided to change it up a little more. The above will still apply, but, I'm also going to post the blogs separate. So right now, the plan is:

Monday - My Week In Review / Pickups - This will be where I talk about anything I did that was gaming related, looking for deals, etc. and also will post any pickups I made.

Tuesday - Gaming Progress - This is where I will post the games I've been playing, as well as the progress made....
