Backlog Adventures #1- Fable 2
By Myncy 04-25-2010 01:32 PM
|
|
I played Fable 1 years ago and liked it, but never picked up 2 until I got the Greatest Hits version with the DLC for $20 last week. I'm maybe 8 hours into it, not sticking only with the main quest. The game is a lot of fun, and well worth the $20. I haven't even touched the DLC areas yet.
I'm a big fan of the dog in the game though. Hell, the first title I received was Dog Lover which I promptly applied to my character. It is a little odd hearing NPC's go "Oh, there goes that Dog Lover!" as I walk by though. But he's a great little guy, helping to find treasure and such. It's also nice to always have someone with you while playing; it's something I haven't seen in any other RPG's I can think of. Almost like another person watching all your actions, both good and evil. Hopefully Will have it completed in the next week or two, but I keep having the urge to play Dead Rising so it may take a little longer. |

A little advice. 360 died. :(
By RobMinhas 04-25-2010 12:44 PM
|
|
So last night my 360 died,(MW2 360 bought four days after MW2 release). No RROD, I install games and use an intercooler. Every time i turn it on the screen kind of goes all out of wack and freezes. I left it off overnight, but no such luck. Anyway, I'ts under warranty so I'm gonna call up MS tomorrow, but I was wondering is there anything I can do, without voiding warranty, to get it up and running for a few days, till I ship it off?
Also any advice on how to handle the MS customer service? Certain things I should/shouldn't say/do? Thanks in advance. |

Sleep is Death

To anyone that may actually read my ASIJ series, I have been lacking in updating it, I will definitely get out at least one update this week;d Sleep Is Death (Geisterfahrer)![]() This game is a unique take on role-playing. One player is the host and manipulates the environment and the other player simply controls their character and the actions of the character they wish to employ. After the game is deemed over by the host, it apparently saves a copy of the story you created. I stumbled upon and read a particular one that was quite funny: Link Furthermore, the website www.sidtube.com has a plethora of community resources and more stories. The game is really interesting to me and seems to be only limited by the creativity of the players. I am ready to buy as soon as I find someone willing to invest time into it with me. ... |

Batman: Arkham Asylum trophy review |
![]() Couldn't agree more Okay, so I got the Platinum trophy in Batman: Arkham Asylum. Now, I try to avoid the game review area of blogging because it seems that everyone and their mother does it, especially for popular games. However, I'll throw my opinion out there this time: If you do not play this game and like it, then you are clearly some sort of sadist that enjoys playing Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing and ET while wearing a gimp suit. Okay, I'm done. Now, on to the trophies! Trophy Review ... |

Working on backlog AKA the neverending journey

There comes a time where a person buys so many games that they don't feel any strong desire to play something new. I Was that way for the longest time and instead kept buying more and more games and watching the backlog grow to ridiculous proportions. Finally the straw killed the camel after the Blockbuster sale where I realized I had just bought 22 or so games in a single week and realized I should quit going outside and stay indoors on the couch and play some video games. And that's all I've been doing this month.
So far I've beaten seven games and working on several more and from that a few thoughts I feel the need to share on some... ![]() The Darkness. Based on the comic book (though loose in interpretation) and I bought this game years ago and played again and off again, but never finished it, but knew I would enjoy it when I gave it the... |

Work is Love. Love is not work.
I had a crazy past 2 days. I left San Diego around 9 AM on Friday morning... Had to go from the office to downtown Los Angeles for a meeting with a potential new client. Meeting went really well. Translation = more good shit. Stopped by a few import shops and game stores for lunch. Went to a popular spot off Venice. So many Street Fighter players there, as soon as I got in I was greeted with "HEY MARKMAN!" and then got some extra copies of Super SFIV for my pals. ![]() Then met up with Princess Aura and started helping her out with her hair... Then went to the launch party for Super SFIV! ![]() Played vs Daigo for the first match of the night on stream.... |

Nintendo Fanboy-ism!

response to:
http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/...b=14107&page=1 *Quick note before you read, I do own all three consoles.* On October 18, 1985, Nintendo released their first home console, the Nintendo Entertainment System. Lifetime units sold for the system are about 61.91 million units, and brought classic titles like Super Mario Bros, the Legend of Zelda, Metroid, and many others to life. I was 2 years old when I first started playing games on NES, and I grew up with Nintendo's consoles/handhelds up to this present day. Fast forward a few generations forward and we are brought to the Wii. When the Wii (then known as Codename: Revolution) was announced, the primary controller was said to be a motion controller. Many people laughed and said that it was destined to fail, but it did the exact opposite. Microsoft released their successor to the Xbox in 2005, and Sony with their successor to the PS2 in 2006 (days after the Wii). What... |

Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier (PSP) Review
By SuperPhillip 04-25-2010 01:09 AM
|
|
Time for a new review of a more recent game. I'm sure you've had your fill of retro reviews for now. Today we're looking at Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier for the PSP. It's also available for the PlayStation 2, but I'm just worrying about the portable version.
Bad Guys Don't Amount to Jak The PlayStation Portable has been home to a renaissance of Sony properties. There's been Resistance, MotorStorm, LittleBigPlanet, WipEout, Ratchet & Clank, God of War, Hot Shots Golf, and Syphon Filter. One series that took an extended holiday, but is now back in action is that of Jak and Daxter. The tag team are back, and ready for a new journey in Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier. Is this lost frontier worth finding? Jak and Daxter have returned in all-new adventure. The duo are back on a mission to uncover the reason behind a shortage of eco in the world. It leads them to an area of the world called The Brink, where it is foretold that the fabled precursors stopped building pieces of the planet. Along the way they meet up with a ragtag group of pirates who wish to plunder their vessel. Jak and Daxter are forced to land on a nearby island, and thus the story truly begins. What there is of the story is told through brilliantly-voiced cutscenes. Daxter, as always, is the tale's comic relief, never letting the tale grow dark unlike previous games in the series. Rest assured, the game's rated E10+, so younger players can check out this adventure and not forced to have played the PlayStation 2 trilogy. Say it with me, "Jak is back, baby!" There are three types of gameplay in The Lost Frontier: Jak and Daxter together, Were-Daxter, and aerial combat via plane. Jak and Daxter together is what fans of the series have grown to know and love. Jak can come across a wide assortment of firearms to take out goons and villainous scum alike. He can scavenge the levels of the game for treasure chests giving him new weapon mods such as increased range and damage as well as obtain new armor for defensive purposes. There's different types of guns for Jak to use such as a machine gun-like weapon, an assault rifle, a grenade launcher, and a shotgun for close-range pursuits. All of the running, jumping, and shooting fans remember are available in this portable chapter of the series. Jak mows through this army of robots. Along with something old, something new pops up in The Lost Frontier. Special precursor idols endow new powers and abilities to Jak. These can be cycled through with the directional pad's left and right buttons. There's a multitude of powers Jak can concoct such as shooting out a red ball of pulsating power that can be detonated by shooting at it, causing devastating damage to enemies and even big bad bosses. Jak can use his newly-hone precursor idol abilities to construct green crystal walkways at specific points in the game to cross over dangerous chasms or other obstacles. When Jak glows with yellow eco power, he can perform a rocket jump to reach new heights. There's also an ability that slows down time, causing previously perilously speedy platforms to slow down to a crawl, safe to cross. The other two powers include one that switches positions with a special totem and a shield that allows Jak to roll on top of deadly dark eco for a limited time. Unlike other games, this edition of Jak and Daxter doesn't just introduce a new power and forget about it. You're constantly using your acquired abilities throughout your journey. When Daxter becomes separated from Jak, he finds himself subjected to dark eco. This turns him into Dark Daxter, or as I like to call him, Were-Daxter. Regardless of the name, Dark Daxter has a different playing style than him and Jak as a team. For one, the ferocious furry can't jump. He relies on heavy damage dealing melee attacks as well as other powers such as spinning into a tornado, taking out all enemies daring enough to stand in his way. Dark Daxter can also throw orbs of dark eco at enemies, too. The Dark Daxter segments happen but a few times throughout the game, and they often are puzzle-focused as well as battle-heavy. Aye! T'is be t' life fer me, mateys! The final portion of Jak and Daxter's newest adventure occurs in the sky, flight. As the duo play through the game they acquire new aircraft. Each aircraft has its own strengths and weaknesses, and they can be upgraded and customized as the player sees fit. Flight is a key component of The Lost Frontier. It's how you get around the five overworlds the game possesses, it's how you do battle with the numerous sky pirates, and it's how you unwind after a long, hard day of smashing up baddies. The left shoulder button fires lock-on missiles while the right is your primary firing lasers. The tertiary weaponry is performed by pressing the triangle button. Your planes are very nimble and can turn on a dime. Air combat feels nice and smooth. It's just right. When you've got an enemy in your sights, you can tap the circle button to bring up a special lock-on function. You can jettison Daxter via tow cable onto a given enemy's ship. Then, by completing a bunch of QTE button presses, Daxter can destroy an enemy's vessel from within. Sometimes you'll even be rewarded a new ship part or healing item from this dangerous excursion. Destroy an enemy ship from within with Daxter's help. As enemies are defeated, they leave behind Dark Eco which a local helper can turn into new moves and abilities for Jak such as increased bonuses of moves and even extra health. Scrap metal from obliterating enemies in the sky and from completing bonus activities such as target races, barroom brawls, and bringing back eco to a special statue. Scrap metal is used to upgrade the various vessels Jak pilots, from upgraded armor to more devastating weapons. Finally, the mainstay of the series since the very beginning, precursor orbs, are hidden throughout the game's levels and from participating and winning the aforementioned bonus activities. When the game is completed, a special Hero mode opens up. This more challenging mode carries over all of the weapons and bonuses from the previous game. However, this time around, players can use the precursor orbs to unlock cheats such as invincibility to unlimited ammo. All-in-all, the first playthrough will take anywhere from 8-10 hours. Relive the adventure all over again with Hero mode. Jak and Daxter look quite good on a much smaller screen. The game usually runs at a steady clip even with rain, lasers, tons of enemies, and special effects. Though there is some slowdown in especially heated confrontations. The game's models are quite impressive, and there's some awe-inspiring places to visit and explore. As stated, the voice acting is terrific. Meanwhile, the soundtrack is quite good as well with plenty of epic-sounding themes to complement the gameplay. While perhaps not worth spending forty hard-earned dollars for, Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier is a fantastic adventure for players young and old. There's plenty of checkpoints available to make repeated efforts all the less maddening. Yes, the camera can a bit of a bother. And yes, the game is a bit on the short side, but Hero mode offers plenty of longevity as does finding all of the precursor orbs, purchasing every available ship upgrade, and powering up Jak to maximum. High Impact Games has done another excellent job with an original PSP title. Oh how I long to call in a tactical nuke in MW2
By King J Gatz 04-24-2010 04:55 PM

|
I feel my life would be complete if I could just call one in. lol. I've gotten close. I had 23 kills without dieing but the game ended with my 23 kill. If I could just get a nuke in a game It would be great. I use to feel the same way about getting a 50 in Halo but that damn ranking system for Halo was so damn screwy I gave up. Hopefully one day I shall get my tactical NUKE!!! I think part of my problem is none of my friends really play MW2 do and the ones who do kinda suck. So I dont get the pleasure of people calling out enemy locations like I did with Halo.

Gaming downfall and complete epic win
By Fatso2027 04-24-2010 11:21 AM

|
So the other day I was at a friend's house in search of a car amp, and he found his old Sega Saturn in a box bound for their garage sale, and I casually offered him $10 for it. To my surprise he agreed and I got super pumped.
Well when the day rolled around that I was supposed to pick it up, he decided that he no longer wanted to sell it, even after I offered him $20 (still a lowball but he isn't a gamer). He still declined, saying he wanted to keep it for whatever reason, I was crushed :( . So instead I decided I would go on a hunt for a PS2, to catch up on some games I skipped because I was merely a youngin in the PS2 era. I found a great deal on CL, a PS2 Slim, 2 controllers and a few games for $35, of course I lowballed the buy, offering $20, and he accepted!!! When it came time to discuss a pick up, he said there was no way he could travel at all, and his house is over an hour from me, I was actually a little upset at this point. Last night... |

Gaming 4/17-4/23

|
A few weeks ago I had a pretty lackluster week, this passing week was worse I think. I don't know what the hell I was busy doing but it definitely wasn't playing video games. Laundry a few days ago didn't help but still....
Last week I mainly played: Had to skip a night of gaming to go do laundry at my parents house because I didn't have money for the laundromat. Then yesterday my friend wanted to skip Resident Evil. Which pushes our finish date back to July 16th for that. This Matt Hazard game pisses me off. I don't know if it was worth $15 since it's so aggravating, at least I'm half way through it though. I'm pissed to I missed the trophy on the Oh Canada level by 12 seconds. I'll probably have this done this week, then go back to Mass Effect. (Or Gears 2 if my friend is done with his school work, it is technically before Mass Effect).... |

How could anyone be a Nintendo Fanboy?
By poker360 04-24-2010 09:29 AM
|
|
I'm confused about how ANYONE could be a nintendo fanboy. Nintendo has stabbed those who got them where they are in the back, in search of the non-gaming audience and huge profits.
When they introduced the wiimote, sure it looked revolutionary, but what we got was a bunch of mediocre waggle games. They introduce the wiimotion plus years later and there is very small support for it thus far. The only "hardcore" games (if you even call them that) that Nintendo has put out in the last 4 years is: Metroid, Super Mario Galaxy, NSMB Wii, red steel? not sure, no more heroes.. heck i give up i don't know what is hardcore and what is not anymore for nintendo. They promised gamers how they were getting serious about online gaming. Really? REALLY? Last time i played online on the wii it was super smash bros. brawl it was a lagfest beyond belief. The conduit was suppose to be their big online game but look how good that is... -.- On top... |

I'm surprised, Halo Reach.
By RedGamer 04-24-2010 09:20 AM

I never thought that I would -care- for Halo Reach. I certainly didn't care for Halo: ODST. And to be frank, Halo 3 wasn't all that much fun.
Halo:Reach looks like it rectifies almost every problem I had with the previous titles in the Halo series. It's multiplayer and campaign look more refined and structured. The distinction between Elites, Spartans and the different armor powers in multiplayer add to the variety. The objective-game modes look better than just deathmatch. I'm... excited. I need to get an HDTV in the 360 room.. |

As all good things come to an end or spiral out of control, I come to CAG to find the answers Im looking for. I say that to say this: my marijuana and gaming habit is becoming too expensive for me to continue, but Im addicted and Im not willing to give them up. Im looking for a job to help me out with these things because UPS sucks. So please state what you do, what a basic day at work is, how much you get paid a hour, and what you had to do to get a job there (what school and how much school, or whatever)
I am a UPS storage worker. I get paid 10.00 a hour. My job required no school. As long as you're strong enough to lift those boxes (which do get heavy) and don't smoke crack you too can get 10 bucks an hour. A typical day at work is coming in at 10pm, arguing with my boss about why I was late once 3 weeks ago (It literally only happened once (btw i was still 5 minutes earlier than him) and making sure that your packages get to the right trucks, places, and etc. TBH, I never... |

My girlfriend hates burps and she gets really mad at me especially when I let loose one of those awesome ground-shaking belches. Normally I'm really proud of myself afterwards but her nagging really ruins that mood.
Well today she was in the kitchen and I heard her burp. Double standards much. |
