The stupid gaming stuff I did when I was a kid

By kainzero 02-24-2010 03:40 PM

How did such a shitty, easy boss become my mortal enemy?

I was pretty young, maybe 7 or 8, when I got Final Fantasy II. I cut my teeth on RPGs like Dragon Warrior 1 and 3 and Final Fantasy, but still, I was pretty dumb back then. Strategy-wise, I'd like to beat the crap out of myself in the past just to tell young kainzero how stupid he was.

Anyway, my brother and I played through FF2 and Baigan was hard for us to beat. I don't know why. Maybe because we kept attacking his arms. But time and time again, he'd run through us and we'd get frustrated. We did an insane amount of leveling and somehow, Cecil had 1200 HP. (On most of my replays, Cecil is lucky to have 1200 HP when I first get down to the Underground).

One day, we started fighting him again, and for some reason, we thought we were doing well. I don't know what it was. Maybe because we hadn't died yet or something,

My fondest (and worst) video game memory.

By Digital Idiot 02-24-2010 03:26 PM
In 1992, when I was 13, I was in a horrible car accident.

Driving 500 miles across Texas to get home for Christmas, my Mother fell asleep at the wheel and drove off of an overpass. The car bounced off the left side guardrail, hit the right side guardrail, mounted it, and rolled over it onto the highway 20 feet below.

The car landed in a heap, upside down.

I had blacked out sometime after the first impact and woke up hanging upside down from my seatbelt. My Mother was unconscious next to me, bleeding and hanging upside down as well.

Somehow I released the buckle on the belt and crawled out of the car. A frozen food delivery man had seen us go over the bridge and pulled over to help. He caught up to me just as my Mother awoke and started screaming.

Long story short, my Mother had a broken back, with three crushed vertebrae. I walked away from the crash with mild pain and some deep tissue bruising, but not much else. Less...

Dante's Inferno Mini-Review

By Lost_In_Shadows 02-24-2010 02:07 PM

I played the demo and didn't really know what the final product would be like. Basically the start of the game is the demo. The game really is a God Of War clone. I hate to say it,but there's really nothing new. At least the game turned out better than I figured it would.

The good:

The graphics are well done. The voice acting is good. It has some replay value If you wanted to get all the achievements/trophies. The story isn't that great although I think the ending and how it explained everything was fantastic and really gives it something extra. I don't want to give it away. I think you need to play it for yourself and find out.

The bad:

It gets extremely repetative. If you have played this game or beat it. You know exactly why I say this. The story also isn't that great. They really overdid it with nudity in this game. I'm not...

Trine in-depth trophy review

By Devil May Cry 02-24-2010 12:40 PM

Trine has to be one of the more fun and exciting Platinums I've gotten in a good long time. I must say, the narrator is my favorite character of all though. He voices just...pierces your soul. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the ending. I won't state what it was exactly, but I'll say that the story didn't build it up properly. Anyways, below is my trophy review for the game as well as my overall trophy progression so far. If you have any questions or just the urge to type, feel free to comment. I'll try to reply ASAP. I highly suggest getting this game, especially now that it's on sale for $10 in the PSN store.

In-depth trophy review

Total trophies: 33
Bronze: 6
Silver: 23
Gold: 3
Platinum: 1
Secret: 5

The trophies for Trine are relatively easy. I had no issue obtaining them all. There is a level select available

Cop Out Review

By n4styn4t3 02-24-2010 11:34 AM
As written on http://www.2guys1blog.net

Nate’s Take

Kevin Smith’s latest flick doesn’t break any new ground, and it isn’t any worse for it. Smith sought to make a buddy action picture and, while not a total success, he has proven himself as capable with another’s material as he is with his own. Cop Out falls into almost all of the traps and cliches that doom most action movies, but strong chemistry between the leads (Tracy Morgan and Bruce Willis) makes up for the “been there, done that” feel of the story. The film isn’t without its flaws, however, as the pacing is a bit off at times, the story drags on near the end, and there are some unfunny bits that seem out of place (Kevin Pollack and his partner’s boot conversation comes to mind). Get past these small failures though, and you will be rewarded with a competent buddy picture with a dash of the dick and fart jokes that Kevin Smith fans have come to expect.

BioShock Grudge Match

By n4styn4t3 02-24-2010 11:32 AM
As written on http://www.2guys1blog.net

The first few months of this year have been so chock-full of high profile video game releases that deciding which ones to spend your hard earned dollar on is quite the daunting task. Over the past week I’ve played through both the original BioShock and BioShock 2 and now I’m here to help you decide which one to choose!

Story
The original BioShock told a completely unique story in brand new world and, until the last couple of hours, did a damn fine job doing it. The ending of BioShock didn’t lend itself to a sequel and it shows. BioShock 2 suffers because the writers had to retroactively force its story into the Rapture that the original created. That’s not to say that BioShock 2’s story isn’t better than most games out there, because it is, it just feels a bit unnecessary when compared to its older brother.
EDGE – BioShock

Presentation
Both games look and sound great. The original...

Gaming adventure from last night

By davidb69 02-24-2010 11:32 AM
Well, I was sick yesterday and the best thing for me to do is rest and watch tv. Heavy Rain arrived and on top of being sick so it turned into a perfect mix. I'm about 4 hours in right now(about 2 and a half inches) which almost takes me to the half way point. My only issue at this point is that I had one part where the game completly froze on me. Thankfully, the game saves a lot and I got right where I was before and seemlessly continued without much delay. Everyone says the game starts slow, well, it does but it has a point to allow you to care about the characters in this story. I will write more when I have completed Heavy Rain but in my opinion this game is a worthy player for those who like a good story but don't expect awesome and epic battles to be deliveried. I find it so far as a story that you drive. I am hoping to get my wife to play and see how the story goes from her point of view.

I downloaded the MLB 2k10 demo on the 360, I was able to play one inning before...

Secret Armory Of General Knoxx has me hooked on Borderlands again

By Pascual 02-24-2010 10:06 AM
Borderlands is a great game but towards the end you didn’t have a lot left to do and the only real way to find upgrades was to farm chests in New Heaven. The Secret Armory Of General Knoxx has added more levels and more gear but more importantly has added things to do after you hit the level cap. I won’t go into too much detail but rest assured its a lot more fun finding upgrades.

So this first video is kind of a highlight reel of some cool stuff found in the DLC

This video shows the big bad boss at the end of the DLC. He’s really big... and bad (for my health)

World of Warcraft - Bizzard has me snowed in

By bigsick 02-24-2010 12:17 AM

Blizzard. Such a great company. They have a few phone numbers to call in case you have a problem, the problem is, they aren't there to answer them.

Anyway, about 2 weeks ago I signed into my battle.net. I hadn't played warcraft since probably around august of last year and i only played for 2 months, but i wanted to go back for at least another month just to try it out again.

I get to my account, and low and behold my account has been locked down for suspicious behavor..aka someone hacked my account.

So i roam web pages, looking for the different ways i can contact blizzard. I guess the best and fastest way is email, so i email them. 2, 3 days go by. No responce

I do it again, no responce.

So then I go and look up all the phone numbers of blizzard to contact them about this. If anyone has called these numbers,...

Red Ring Redux

By Koggit 02-23-2010 08:38 PM
I posted a blog recently about getting Red Ringed.

With a few days passed and a little more time to gather my thoughts, after re-reading my original blog and some of the comments (which seemed off-point from what I was trying to discuss), I realized I didn't clearly present argument. So I'm gonna try this again.

Microsoft's business practices are anti-casual. Or, more specifically, anti-people-who-don't-play-games-very-often. The reason I'm getting on my soapbox to shout this is because I feel the gaming community at large just doesn't see this. I see a lot of hate for the Wii, a lot of people saying XBL is better than PSN period, etc -- I think members of the "gaming community" don't see how Microsoft's decisions affect people who don't treat gaming as their primary...

First platinum... I am a cheater

By RanchLizard 02-23-2010 08:31 PM
I love Buzz Quiz TV. It's really fun to play with the family and friends.

And I will admit that the trophy thing with PS3 is cool to me in an obviously nerdy way.

But there was no way I could get all the trophies, so I cheated:
http://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/buz...phy-cheat.html

Some trophies I still had to get legitimately, but for the others, it was nice to have a cheat available.

However, I think the appearance of the platinum trophy is somewhat of a letdown. It looks the same as all the other trophies when it pops up, with the same chime and everything. I guess I was hoping for a bit more fanfare. It may be the only one I earn, so I guess it's not that big of a deal.

Week 8 Weigh In Results

By burritoman 02-23-2010 05:47 PM
Weel it's that time again and I am still losing weight.

My goal was to smash the 230 barrier and this week I ended up at 229.75 pounds!

That is 30 pounds since this contest began!

I have lost 11.55% of my starting weight. Comfortably in first place by a couple points. My biggest rival gained 5 pounds and is at 1.333%.

Sweet isn't it?

Still got a month left and I am going into the home stretch. The road is open wide and I just have to take advantage of it. I'm doing well and will continue my quest to victory.

Thanks for all the support last week. I only have a little while left until the contest is over and I am on my pace still. Can't wait to maintain my weight instead of lose it.

Thanks and see you next week!

My Week In Review

Updated by 1NintendoFan 03-09-2010 11:25 PM
Last week was pretty boring in terms of gaming. I really didn't play much of anything, spent most of my free time watch TV. I decide to turn on the old PS3 once (haven't turned it on since Christmas time and even then it was just to test a few games I got) I spent some time in Home, was wanting to play some games, but was having a really hard time staying connected (ever since I moved, my PS3 drops the internet connection so much it drives me crazy. I never had a problem with it before, so I don't know what it is, I would assume it is the wireless, but everything else that I have on wireless is actually working better then it did before), so didn't really get to do that. I also downloaded several demos, Heavy Rain, Uncharted 2, Peggle and Sonic and Sega All-Star Racing. Heavy Rain sounds like an interesting concept, but from the demo alone, I'm really not hooked yet. I liked the game, it seems like it could be interesting, but I think it needs something more, I am still interested in it,...

Top 5 Perfect Video Game Soundtracks of the Last Decade

By BlueSwim 02-23-2010 04:21 PM
Updated by BlueSwim 02-25-2010 03:54 AM
The 00's were an incredible time for music in games. In the last decade, we had music in games go beyond just bleeps, bloops and fake instrument sounds of the 90's and actually feature "real" music. Real instruments, real songs, real artists and bands. Gaming music legitimized itself in a big way. This is a countdown of the most-perfect soundtracks I've heard over the past decade. A lot of fantastic soundtracks didn't make the main list, some because I haven't gotten around to play them yet. I am only one man, after all. However, they were not forgotten. Lets kick things off by paying tribute to a few of the many great gaming soundtracks also worth mentioning.

Criteria: A mix of consistency, memorability, overall quality & music personal experienced.

--------Honorable Mentions--------
Guitar Hero - PS2 - 2005: The original Guitar Hero's soundtrack was filled with great songs. All-time classics like "Smoke...
