baby don't hurt me
don't hurt me no more... I'm back in San Diego! I was in Seattle for about 6 days for this year's Penny-Arcade Expo! I can't wait until next year and PAX East! Ok, no one cares. No one reads this. But! I'm coming out with two books that I hope to have printed by March of next year at the latest. One of them will have to do with something that is very near and dear to me... Arcade Sticks. The other book will focus on the competitive gaming community (mostly fighting games) and will be a story told mostly through pictures. Think of it as a coffee table picture book. I've also heard good news about a very big game from the land of the rising sun being ported over for a NA release. Look forward to something from me to help support this title! *tease tease* Lastly. Work is owning me like crazy. I used to go out every weekend and see... |

Penny Arcade Expo 2009

I found out about PAX on the same day I went! I never knew they held this thing every year in Seattle (where I live). Let me tell ya, the experience was simply amazing. I got to play Mass Effect 2, Starcraft II, Diablo III, Borderlands, Bayonetta, No More Heroes 2, God of War III, Heavy Rain, MAG, Ratchet & Clank: A Crack In Time, Scribblenauts, Uncharted 2 and a lot more.
I saw a lot of neat cosplayers and some other interesting people. Got a chance to talk with the Borderlands developers, as well as the Guild Wars 2 developers. I got a lot of free swag - shirts, posters, buttons, unlockable in-game content via rave cards given out, and lots of beta codes for certain games. Sony was giving away the Uncharted 2 Fortune Hunter Edition (only 200 made) to whoever won from a random drawing. Admission was only $30 and everything I got could easily pay that off and more. I seriously got a big bag full of stuff. Pictures: ... |

Is the X-box 360 worth the $?
By nickerous 09-08-2009 01:01 AM

Ok, my situation is this: My birthday is this week and I'll be getting money to burn. My wife says that we need to go to Gamestop or somewhere so I can pick out what I want for my birthday. This is great! I get what I want and she doesn't have to guess at what would be the perfect gift. So, I've got options here.
1. Pick out a couple PS3 or Wii games. 2. Pick out 5 or 6 Gamecube, PS2, or GBA games. 3. Pick out a couple DS or PSP games. 4. Buy a 360 and a game with the gift money and pick out a 360 game or two. My question is, Do I really want a 360? I'm not an online gamer and hardly ever have my router set up for use. I JUST got a regular X-Box and have not had much time to play with it (the x-box is where the 360 would go). I have a PS3 and Wii that I am not playing with very much. I'm more of a retro gamer. I play GBA, NES, SNES, and PS1/2 games. THat's not to say I don't enjoy current gen games. Infamous was a stellar title... |

Beatlemania! - 2 Days To Go Baby |
|
After a few days of facts I thought I should lighten up and post my 10 most favorite Beatles songs.
(In order of recording date, not preference):
1. Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown) - This is the first song by a rock band to use a sitar (George played it). The song has no drums but Ringo did play the finger cymbals. |

I just had to make this inspirational poster after the reaction my friend had from his wife after purchasing the Millennium Falcon at Toys R Us. Suppose I was brought along for his voice of reason but I'm not any good at that. 50% off I thought, what the hell, do it man! He just looked sooooo damn happy I had to take a picture. |

Record of Agarest War
By MiNuN 09-07-2009 10:09 PM

![]() A S-RPG game made by a collaboration between Idea Factory, Red Entertainment and Compile Heart. http://www.gametrailers.com/video/ja...ecord-of/24120 Link to a video. I have played quite a few J-RPGs that were released to N.A. and I am very much in to gaming news scene which includes Japanese games, so I can recognize and surely say that Idea Factory and Red Entertainment are very popular RPG companies in Japan (meaning their quality of games are top entertainment), but I have never heard of Compile Heart. Released in Japan on September 27th, 2007 and a upgraded version for Xbox 360 on November 27th, 2008, Record of Agarest War will come to Europe for the PS3 on October 30th, 2009 and to N.A. as a PSN title on November 9th, 2009. A few things have caught my attention about the game and I think it is a sure-buy for me. - It... |

Role Playing games suck!!!
By NateWhs152 09-07-2009 09:54 PM
|
|
I don't really think that, I am just tired of hearing people say EA is shit and sports games are bad. They are not bad, they are not for you and not your thing. Thats cool, no problem. There are people who don't like RPG's, i enjoy some of them but think most are kinda dumb. Again no worries. I can appreciate them and know they are good if you are into that sort of thing. I like Madden, NBA 2k, does that make me less of a gamer. I also love Final Fantasy, Zelda, and many other games too. I think we all need to be a little more opened minded about games that we are not into but others are. There is a reason Madden is the best selling game every year.

So im thinking of breaking down and buying a Slim PS3 but im having trouble deciding

So yeah im having trouble deciding if its really worth buying. I own a Wii and a 360 and i couldnt be more happier. BC is not an issue because i still own a Slim PS2 and and a PS1. So i decided to talk to a friend of mine who runs a gamestop. So i ask him if i should get one...and come up with some games that makes it worth it to get a PS3. He even had a tough time coming up with titles besides the ones you keep hearing about ....which are the exlcusive releases. Most of the other games are multi platform and i can get it on the 360 like Tekken 6. The only games i really saw that i wanted to play was Valkyra Chronicles and Cross Edge. So anyway i really want one...but im afraid i might not use it much like i use my other systems. besides being a Blu Ray player...what made you, the new owners go out and buy a PS 3? Are you guys happy or regretting your decision? Are you ps 3 owners having the same kind of trouble thinking about what games there are that would make you buy one? Anyway any...

First things first, I work as a job coach for a non-profit organization that does supportive employment for adults with disabilities. This basically means that I work with people who have disabilites, such as autism and cerebral palsy, and I help them find jobs. I also help them learn their job tasks and talk with management about any issues my clients may have.
A few weeks ago, I was promoted to Coffee Cart Manager of Creative Coffee Creations, which is owned by the same non-profit I work for. Granted, I have never worked around coffee, no management or retail experience. Anyways, this coffee cart employs three baristas, all of which have some sort of disability and who have been working there for almost a year, so they are all pretty cocky due to my age and my inexperience. My first day there, the old coffee cart supervisor give me a run down of what I am supposed to do everyday; unlock everything, restock the muffins and snacks, get the register report,... |

Batman Deals ROCK! Review
By PigheadedBobobo 09-07-2009 04:47 PM
|
|
I was not going to buy Batman:AA, because i'm not a big superhero fan, until I read the reviews. At best buy the next day I was going to get Madden 10 then I saw they had a deal. Buy 1 xbox 360 game get 1 50% off. That's why I picked up Batman for $30. I must say It's AMAZING. It's made up for the other less then lackluster Batman games. The voice acting is awesome! I've never seen the animated show but hearing Mark Hamil was too cool. The Combat is also very addicting even though you only need 1 button. The story is amazing too but my favorite parts are the Scarecrow scenes. The Riddler Challenges and Trophys are fun too. Combat challenge rooms are fun but Stealth i could do without.
If your looking for a good superhero game, a Batman fan, or a video game fan in general you should pick this up. I'm Looking forward to getting 100% completion and can't wait for DLC. Store price $60 Buy Price $60 ( I'd pay 65-70 if it was priced that way) |

Guitar Hero 5 Mini-Review
By Lost_In_Shadows 09-07-2009 04:07 PM
|
![]() I know... I know. I'm no shipwreck, but I wanted to give some cags my opinon of GH5. First off I've played the series for quite some time now. I'm not addicted to the games like some people are. I just play them every now, and then. PRO'S Lots of great songs in this game or at least I think so. The gameplay seems like the other Guitar Hero games, but with a fresher look, and style to it. They have added a couple of things included where you can jump in, and out of a song. It is also able to import songs from GHWT into the game. CON'S Although you can import songs from GHWT you can't import them all. Only certain ones. Online isn't that great in these games. Seems like it was hard to find a match, and it isn't that well balanced. Final Thoughts 3.5/5 Retail Price: 59.99 Suggested buy it price: 34.99 |

Worst Publishers/Developers EVER!!!
By budz 09-07-2009 03:59 PM

Off the top of my head, I wanted to post some of the most awful developers (those who make the crap) and publishers (those who produce and ship the crap) of all time (imho).
Publishers: LJN-- Most of the crappy games you played on the NES and SNES came from this source. (Beetlejuice, Top Gun, Terminator and other movie-based games) Just ask AVGN. Oh, and it's also this company that taught you to NEVER expect greatness from a game based on a film. Acclaim-- Remember your favorite arcade games? (NBA Jam, Mortal Kombat, WWF Wrestlemania, etc.) Now remember the bastardized version of those same games on your video game system? You can thank Acclaim for that. Electronic Arts-- Hey, thanks for the great game... and raping me of my cash with millions of its expansion packs... and its rushed sequels... and your yearly rehashed sport games... and . Especially . (Yes, I did own that game)Developers: Double... |

Contra Rebirth Mini-Review
By Lost_In_Shadows 09-07-2009 03:56 PM
|
|
Back in the day. I remember playing Contra, and Super Contra on NES so much with friends, and it never got old. Then again when your a kid everything seems better than a adult at least for me. So Contra returns, and is reborn, but is it good?
PRO'S Classic Contra at its finest. Gameplay wise is great. The Characters are basic, but classic. The stages are great, and well done. The bosses seem fresh, and new. It feels like a old Contra game, and has the same style of gameplay, and features. CON'S Its extremely short. 5 stages long it won't take you over 25-30 mins at the max. Seems like there isn't enough good mix of enemies like it use to have. Feels like they throw a story, and a game together unfinished. Final Thoughts 3/5 Retail Price 1000 points Suggested Price: 1000 points I feel as a Contra fan it is worth the price to play a new Contra game. No matter how good... |

Cheapy and Wombat on Howard Stern!
By chado53 09-07-2009 03:49 PM

Cheapy, this message is for you:
Out of all the time i've been listening to your show i can't count how many times I've heard you mention Howard Stern and how you appreciate him/like him whatever, but you didn't even give him the vibe that you do his work, also. I mean, I'm sure the amount of money that went to charity definitely was not a little bit of money, especially to get a sit on Howard Stern's show. So, my question to you is: HOW WAS IT?! you must have been excited to see your idol, another fellow radio/podcast speaker. what do you guys think? did cheapy own up to his hype on howard? oh and by the way, wombat did great...always not giving a sh*t |

Gurnee Circuit City now a Halloween store, what's yours?
By hugues 09-07-2009 03:33 PM

Went to the GameStop at Gurnee Mills yesterday and noticed that the Circuit City is now a Halloween store. I just had to go in. It was actually a bit humorous because they didn't take down any of the old signage. So underneath the giant "Car Audio" sign you'd see a rack of costumes and so on. Unfortunately I wasn't able to snag any pictures.
So, what's your local Circuit City now? |

Crackdown Review |
|
I know, not very recent, but I hope you enjoy the review! In 2002, the game developer “Realtime Worlds” was founded by David Jones, creator of some of the Grand Theft Auto titles and the addicting puzzle game “Lemmings”. It took a while for one of their own games to come out. Then, in 2007, “Crackdown” was released exclusively for the Xbox 360. Its main marketing campaign was the fact that it included a free Halo 3 multiplayer beta code. But, even though a large majority of people might have bought it for that reason, it contains a lot of simple-minded entertainment worth playing. The game takes place in a fictional city called “Pacific City”, where crime is at an all-time high. A law-enforcement group called “The Agency” has engineered these tough, crime-busting agents to rid the city of the three gangs that populate it. These super-built... |

Review: The Beatles: Rock Band (360)
By shipwreck 09-07-2009 08:30 AM
|
|
The opening cinematic to The Beatles: Rock Band is so cool that even if you lived under a rock for the past 46 years only to emerge and immediately pick up this game, you'd still understand completely and without question how cool - and influential - The Beatles were. There's no doubt about that, but did the game itself send chills up my spine and garner all my lovin' or was my plastic miniature guitar left gently weeping?
Here's pretty much all you need to know: if you are a fan of The Beatles this game will not disappoint. Playing through the forty-five included songs is not only a treat to the ears, but it's absolutely gorgeous. As you may already know, the game follows The Beatles' career in chronological order through famous concert locations and on to their later studio years. The early classic venues such as The Cavern Club and the Ed Sullivan Show are better looking than anything I've seen in this style of game. But it's when you progress to the Abbey Road... |

One day of PAX '09
By surak 09-07-2009 03:08 AM
|
|
My fiancee dragged me to PAX this year, only Sunday though because we decided rather late to go. Living in the area, literally within walking distance of the Seattle Convention Center, meant that it wasn't a difficult journey.
This was my third PAX; my first was the last year they had it in Bellevue (one word description: CROWDED), then I went the next year (one word: BETTER), then I skipped last year because there wasn't a single game I was hyped to see. This year was actually to same -- nothing I was dying to see or play that would be worth $30 for the PAX entrance fee. But since I didn't have anything better to do, I agreed to go along with my soon-to-be wife and make the rounds around the exhibit hall at least. Unfortunately, Sunday wasn't the best day to go because there wasn't a comic panel, which has been in my experience an amazing event to be at live, watching Mike and Jerry come up with a comic before one's eyes while shooting the shit and bantering... |
