E3 Press Conferences?
By s0undwav3 07-15-2008 04:26 PM

So, who do you think had the best announcements and best game line up at E3?
Now that they are all over, this is what I think in rank of announcements and game of the year type material: Sony Microsoft Nintendo Sony has clearly stepped up their A game this year with some great looking titles. I'm personally looking forward to MAG. I mean that's better than most squad based PC games (256 Online Players). DC Universe looks good but it still needs a lot of work. Resistance 2 - amazing gameplay video's. I really thought it was going to be Microsoft this year but there's a lot more content coming from the Sony camp, from some nice titles for PS2, PSP and PS3, where Microsoft has a sole focus on Xbox 360 with nearly half of a lineup. Nintendo just didn't deliver imo. Enough said on that front. |

PS3 Press Conference impressions

Jack Tretton is the ideal spokesperson, and Sony seems to have put on the slickest conference of the big three.
Sony didn't have a megaton on the caliber of Final Fantasy coming to 360 day in date, but they had a lot of good announcements. MAG was saved for last and looks to be a first attempt at a shooter MMO. Although from the footage shown there wasn't a clear picture on what the gameplay would be like. Obviously confirmation of God of War 3 will please playstation fanboys. The DC universe could be exciting as we've yet to see a successful console MMO this generation (or maybe my judgement is just clouded because I love Jim Lee). Little Big Planet showed off it's versatility by being used as a incredibly pleasing presentation tool. I think the closest thing to a megaton for me was the movie download service with options to rent or buy. This has some advantages over the 360 movie download service in that you can transfer these too a psp! Also... |

Sony announces MAG

Sony's press conference was not to bad.
The little big planet presentation was awesome. Sony video store drops tonight and they introduced MAG A massive multiplayer game with 256 players on the PS3. In conclusion, A good presentation but i think Xbox was probably the biggest of this week. My final grade a B |

Grading the E3 08 Presser: Sony

Okay, this one was interesting. A lot of ups, a lot of downs, and a lot of head scratchers.
Confused about - Mag. Okay, the concept sounds cool. It sounds like Resistance's multiplayer tree on steroids. Squad based, earn points based on how well you play, etc. But...TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY SIX PLAYERS!? What wasn't there? - Killzone 2. Where was it? You'd think it would've shown. - Final Fantasy XIII. They couldn't show the same trailer? What lacked? - Jack's opening speech. This thing really dragged. Well, his entire speak about GT5:Prologue being a franchise too. - The intros for each category. About 5 seconds too long. - Home. Just a trailer. Seriously, you should've shown a lot more Sony. - $399 80gb PS3. No Back Compat, probably no DS3 either. - PSP & PS2. We weren't expecting much from PS2, but PSP could've done so much better. What was good? - Resistance 2 - LittleBigPlanet... |

Sony at E3 08: The Lesser of Three Evils |
|
Phew, all three conferences down. None of them were particularly special, but Sony's was easily the most impressive, based on the fact that they didn't waste as much time on crappy casual fare like Wii Music or LIPS.
As far as good games go, there wasn't much, but there was some stuff with promise. The conference started out with a bit of Resistance 2, which is clearly the game Sony is depending on to sell systems this year. ![]() The game looked alright, though it still takes place in an incredibly dull cityscape. The demo had the main character facing off against a Brumak, or other generic, large monster, though it wasn't especially exciting to watch given how plodding the game's pace was. It seems like another FPS that'll be fairly solid, though not particularly memorable. Where things got more interesting was the new batch of downloadable... |

Rhyth, JSRF. Anime style - obviously - and regular old 0.5mm black lead. Screw that blue noise...for now.
Funny thing is, it's on a piece of scrap paper, and not in my sketcbook. Isn't that always the way? Based on LinkinPrime's suggestion. Thanks! |

Nintendo's Keynote = Garbage
By E*Master 07-15-2008 03:43 PM

<rant>
Other than the Animal crossings for the Wii and GTA for the DS I thought that keynote was absolute garbage. It didn;t need a keynote they could have just put that in a press release and it would have been more interesting. Yes, we know ur moving the most hardware, yes you have sooooo many geriatrics and kids playing ur games n shit but you did not deliver what the core audience wants. Things like DVD movie playbacks or some ing storage space on the console. How about playing your DS games on the Wii? No instead Nintendo spent a good portion of their keynote talking about how much better they are than everyone else. I Love Nintendo and their products but they are seriously starting to be like that Kids you hated in High school and then a few years later he's filthy rich and brags about it. I understand that they are making tons of money with what they are doing but they are once again showing their hardcore audience, the people who have been with... |

Final Fantasy IV and Dragon Quest IV to be released same day?
By MartinAustin 07-15-2008 03:31 PM
|
|
Please file this one under the "How the hell did I not know about this" heading. Apparently, according to scans of a release list I believe was provided by Nintendo to media at E3 2008.
According to the list, both Final Fantasy IV (probably my most highly anticipated game this year) and Dragon Quest IV (don't know much about it, but want it) are to be released side by side on July 22nd. I have Best Buy's Sunday advertisement next to me (for July 20-26), and it has FF IV in there (Available Wed by 2pm), but no sign of DQ. Anyone know more? E3: PS3 Press Conference |
|
The goods:
God of War III (but the trailer was underwhelming and coming next year) Infamous (looks like a more gritty version of Mass Effect with those weird force powers) Massive Action Game (MAG) - Wow, battles up to 256 PLAYERS ONLINE! WHOA. Resistance 2 Rachet and Clank: Quest for Booty (gotta love that game title...Quest for Booty) Little Big Planet DC Universe Online (but wish it wasn't on SOE, they don't do a good job on MMO's) So so: PS3 Greatest Hits Lineup Hype of Playstation Network and the TV Shows and Movies - they are way behind their competitor on this. (where's Netflix for PS3...aww too bad PS Fans) Playstation Network Trophies (humm kinda like achievements for the 360) Boy Sony did a good job this year. More to come as it is still streaming. Did I miss something but I saw nothing attractive for the PSP....oh wait ... |

Grading the E3 08 Presser: Nintendo |
|
Okay, let's get right into it, shall we?
What Wasn't There - The Big Core Game. Not a shock. No Kid Icarus, no Mario, no Metroid, no Zelda. They teased it a bit, but something should've been hard announced, but it was not to be. - Wii Ware / Virtual Console stuff. Where was Mega Man 9? Where was Mr. Strong Bad? Earthbound? DK64? Majora's Mask, etc.? Nothing. Given how many games they're trying to put on the service, this is a disappointment. - Storage Solution. Need I say more? What lacked? - Wii Motion +. I strictly bring this down to the game and what was shown off. Combined with an 09 release, it might be something no one cares about. - Wii Music. It was shown. That's it. No peripherals (I seriously could've imagined Nintendo pushing this thing out with 50 different peripherals) to be seen. At least it looks somewhat entertaining. What was Good? - Animal Crossing: City Folks w/ Wii Speak (Microphone).... |

Nintendo - E3

Just saw the Nintendo E3 press event and I was really, really disappointed overall. Only a few “head-liners.
1)GTA for DS – By far the biggest news announced 2)Updated Wii-mote sensor 3)Animal Crossings – no shock there 4) Wii Music - a "game" which appears to involve shaking your controllers to make music ----- um .. yeah ... |

Reactions to Nintendo's E3 Press Conference
By MartinAustin 07-15-2008 01:54 PM

Bullet points with my commentary.
Shaun White Snowboarding: While I think that it's an innovative use of the Wii Balance Board, I wonder how many among us have the energy to really play this game for more than a few hours? Might be worth a rental for those that plopped down the duckets for Wii Fit. Nintendo's Sales Figures: To anyone that actually follows gaming news, this should come as no surprise. Animal Crossing: City Folk: Probably one of the most expected announcements in Nintendo's E3 lineup, Animal Crossing will be coming to the Wii in late 2008. I enjoyed Wild World for what it was, though admittedly found it repetitive and boring (just not my thing). The inclusion of a nice, multidirectional microphone is a nice addition. Welcome to 2005 Nintendo. I'll be picking this one up for sure. Wii Sports Resort / MotionPlus: I'll admit it, I was a HUGE proponent of Wii Sports to my family and friends when I got my Wii... |

Nintendon't Get It |
|
I don't think anyone expected a mind-blowing announcement at Nintendo's E3 conference... but I'm sure we all expected... well, something. Looks like that was a bit too much to ask for.
At best, the show had a few tech demos on display. The Wii microphone looks cool and we're finally getting some steps towards a decent online game with Nintendo, but I certainly wouldn't want to play another Animal Crossing. The Wii-mote booster add-on finally seems to fix the Wii-mote's shoddy functionality. Of course, Wii Sports Resort, the game to showcase that, looked really bland. Far worse than the original. It's telling that they used a wood log chopping sim to showcase the new tech. Don't get me wrong - I'm glad to see these advancements, but I'd also be happy to see a good game that uses them, and Call of Duty: World at War ain't it. Then, there was Wii Music, which sounded cool. Unfortunately, they played the game on stage, and made it clear that this was basically... |

Nintendo presser underwhelming as expected...
By dubbfoolio 07-15-2008 01:48 PM

Okay I don't know if it is possible to expect to be underwhelmed. But you get the idea. Nintendo presented very little for the core. One thing noticeably absent was a Kid Icarus announcement guaranteed to us by IGN. GTA for the DS could be interesting.
The other millitons were the expected announcements of Animal Crossing City Folk and Wii Sports Resort. Both of which look suspiciously like MOTS from the very little I've seen. Which brings us to a controller peripheral that enhances the accuracy of the Wiimote. Are people really going to want to buy sets of these? What does this say for family gaming night when some games are broken without it? I can understand they're trying to extend the life of the wii past waggle, but it seems like the controller is going to get uglier and uglier with each succesive add on. Speaking of which: New Magnum size condoms for you wiimote. And while nintendo is infecting your livingroom with more and more white plastic... |

The ESRB-Banned, somewhat, Dead Space Trailer
By FriskyTanuki 07-15-2008 01:39 PM

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/36332.html
I got an email from an overly enthusiastic PR guy at EA who besides typing out WHOOOO!!!!'s and all that mentioned that the trailer above, which I believe was shown at the EA E3 Press Conference, was not approved by the ESRB to be distributed like the rest of their trailers because it's gory as . However, it was approved over in the EU, so GameTrailers uploaded it to their site through those means and here we are now.My favorite quote about this trailer comes from Jeff Green over at 1up during his liveblog of the show:
