Still wondering about homebrew talk in the CAGcast
By franky1029 02-21-2009 10:02 AM

I've actually posted an article at Classic Gamer Brain that goes into detail about what I mean. Basically, why don't they mention homebew or free games more often. Seems odd for a site called Cheap Ass Gamer...
So Cheapy and/or Wombat, let me know what the real deal is! |

Online Mag???
By franky1029 02-19-2009 06:54 AM

I've been working on the classic gamer brain blog for about a year and a half now, and I've been trying to take it somewhere farther. With that in mind, I've all but decided to start an online magazine. Before I go ahead with this, I wanted to propose the idea to my favortite gaming community. So, would anyone like an online magazine that featured video content, a special podcast (I don't want to leak my idea on these, so sorry for not explaining), and, obviously, great and compelling articles? And if so, what would you guys like to see included in it?

Okay, its been some time since I've posted on here. But I've been quite busy! The biggest piece of news is that Poot, Xambot and I put up our 10th podcast last week! So, I think at this point we've had enough time to figure out what we're doing, and make it a good listen. The feedback that we have received so far has been awesome. Well, I'm hoping everyone can take a listen again, and check out the latest podcast. We'd really like to hear what people think, and also what people would like to hear. Head over to Classic Gamer Brain and listen!

Another podcast from the team at Classic Gamer Brain! Xambot joins us this time, so if you wanna hear what a woman has to say about FF7, head on over. She's playing it for the first time (she's been threatened countless times). We also talk about how we don't really hate Sony, Playing Columbine, and the used game argument. Make sure you guys leave a comment if you check it out. We wanna hear from everyone!

8-bit Show Episode #2
By franky1029 11-21-2008 11:20 PM
|
|
Poot and I return for the second edition of The 8-bit Show! This time around we shortened the show down, due to request of our listeners, though I must admit we're using Rock Band mics to actually do this, so until we can afford real equipment, I will continue to apologize for the poor audio quality. In this episode, Poot gets addicted to Dragon Ball Origins, I revisit some old C64 games, and we discuss the latest headlines and do some Sony bashing! Head over to Classic Gamer Brain and listen!

Proof that one man can make a (real) game!

Robert Pelloni is man who has spent the last 5 years of his life creating a game all on his own. I don't mean he wrote the game story and pitched the idea to a developer. This guy wrote the story, created the music, did all the artwork, programed it all together, and now he's pitching his ass off to publishers to get the game out in the real world. He's recently done many interviews about his game, but I was able to ask him a few questions that don't really have to do with the in game aspect, but more about the things that we at Classic Gamer Brain are really concerned about. And one big point that every CAG can appreciate, price. Visit Classic Gamer Brain to read more!

Homebrew on CAG |
|
I am constantly asking myself why nothing in the homebrew scene is ever mentioned on the CAGcast. These are free (and legal) games you can get, it's a CAG's wet dream. Yet, it seems that the stigma of piracy that is associated with homebrew turns Cheapy and Wombat off to the whole idea. Is it that they don't find themselves interested in homebrew games? Or is it simply that they'd rather not dig themselves into a hole, and just avoid the whole subject? Either way, I think this needs to be addressed.
My personal opinion is that some of these games deserve the attention, others make it easy to enjoy old freeware classics. You don't need to condone piracy to mention these games that are very much worth the effort of looking into. Anyone else agree? |

Finishing Games Many Years Too Late

Arguably the worst, arguably the best, of the series Descent 3 was a game that took the basics of Descent and expanded it quite a bit. I purchased this game shortly after It came out in 2001. However I just beat this game for the first time. And not because I didn't enjoy it. I really did. It was fun and hard. But because the levels were so huge, and at times I was stuck, I found myself setting the game aside for long periods of time. Recently, though, because I invested in Homebrew for the DS, and beat the first one once again on the bus, I found myself wanting the beat the final chapter. I'm normally against looking on gamefaq before I beat the game, but I just wanted to finally beat it. And I was very glad to finally do so. So here's the question. Is this a bad thing? I don't really think so. But I guess you can throw me into a special category thats somewhere in... |

Rock Band Woes
By franky1029 07-05-2008 12:17 AM

So, a few weeks ago, the strum bar on the guitar for Rock Band started to go out. It became extra difficult to play, and now our household has to resort to strumming upwards for the most part. I could deal with that, whatever. Mainly because I played drums while someone else rocked out on the guitar. But now, the drums are dying!!! The pads seem to not be responding nearly as well. Is anyone else out there finding that their Rock Band instruments are dying?

I Am Dreading Guitar Zero
By franky1029 07-04-2008 08:56 PM

Alright, first I feel i need to explain that I have nothing against Guitar Hero. It's a great game, and I am extremely addicted to it. But, I feel that the Guitar Hero team as been asked to do something which betrays the very core of GH. Which is very much a 180 from what happened with their On Tour version for the DS.
Now, you already know exactly what I'm going to say. I really hope this game never sees the light of day. Its almost as if Activision are asking to have their asses handed to them. When this game hits home, I have a very bad feeling that we won't be playing Guitar Hero, but "Rock Band Hero". Which sucks. This isn't what I really want. And what I feel many people don't want. Yes, at this point there is nothing that we can do about it, and I know that I really know nothing about the game. But something screams disaster about this game. I'm not expecting it to sell bad, GH will always sell good, despite the content (at least for now). But... |
