Indie Mondays - Trailer Park King Review (Xbox 360)

By adawg555 03-05-2012 04:07 PM

Trailer Park King is one game you can't help but judge by its cover before playing it.

After looking at the cover shot for Freelance Game's indie title, I fully expected boobs, cheesy dialogue, and perhaps some alcoholic beverages to be strewn throughout the game. Did I expect an entertaining Point and Click Murder Mystery? Hell naw, darlin'... Alright, I promise never to do that again.

Trailer Park King is a Point and Click Adventure in which you play as King, the self proclaimed King of his small Trailer Park, which is apparently occupied only by him and a stable of scantily clad women. But more on that in a bit. The game begins with King taking the girl of his dreams, Zamboni, on a hot date. There, King runs into Zamboni's angry brother Truck. After some tame insults are exchanged,...

What are your thoughts on sexism in the video game community?

By adawg555 02-29-2012 02:50 AM
For our VG Confidential Podcast, we are going to be discussing the recent debate over sexism and even sexual harrassment in video games, which was sparked by the comments of a Capcom Reality Show contestant. You can read the full article from Penny Arcade about it here: http://penny-arcade.com/report/edito...fighting-games.

Many gamers are mean to each other in general, and say things that can be very hurtful over the anonymous microphone. It seems this can be amplified to new levels when a known female is present in a lobby. Are offensive comments like this just par for the online gaming course? Or are they taking things too far, especially when a woman is present?

As many of us frequently game online and have no doubt heard similar comments said, whether there was a woman present in the conversation or not, I am sure there are many opinions on the matter.

If you have a stance...

Gotham City Imposters Review

By adawg555 02-21-2012 03:33 PM

I will be the first to admit that Gotham City Impostor’s debut trailer E3 was a bit underwhelming. I was confused about how you could make a first person shooter Batman game, for one, and even more confused by how you could make a Batman without ever having the actual Batman make an appearance. This befuddled me so much, in fact that I wrote the game off before giving it it’s fair shake. And I know I wasn’t the only one.

I had almost completely forgotten about the Gotham City Impostors until I saw they had started a public beta for it in November. Being one to never pass up free gaming of any sort, I grabbed a beta key because, quite frankly, what was there to lose? A few hours of my life wasted? I already went through that with Brink, and for a lot more money. Looking back at it now, the Impostors...

Indie Mondays - Katana Land Review (Xbox 360)

By adawg555 02-20-2012 07:55 PM
Katana Land is a retro 2D platformer that is more than worth its cheap price point.

After looking at the screenshots and synopsis that Katana Land provided on the Indie Games Marketplace, I was strangely confident I had stumbled upon one of those gems that I had hoped to find when I started this feature a month ago. I dropped $1 down on it to see if I was right. After playing through the game a few times, I am more than glad to say that I was.

In the Indie title, you take control of Katana Kid, an inhabitant of the whimsical and mysterious Katana Land. Unfortunately for you and the Kid, Katana Land is about to be destroyed by an evil Demon who has also kidnapped an old dude's Princess. Fortunately, you and Katana Kid have the right ninja skills to keep that from happening.

Is Gotham City Imposters taking DLC too far?

By adawg555 02-07-2012 05:51 PM
I posted an article about it here: http://bgbureau.com/1146/gotham-city-imposters-committing-a-dlc-foul/

But I need to take this to the blog because its a question that deserves to be asked.

For the gist of what's going on, Gotham City Imposters is a downloadable game coming out tomorrow on the PS3 and Xbox 360 for $15. In the game, you unlock weapons, shirts. pants, masks, etc as you rank up. But as revealed today, you can also pay a pretty penny to unlock these items at any time.

Now, if someone wants to pay to unlock something, that's fine. But it's another thing, in my opinion, when the developer tries to charge $4 to unlock a pair of pants for the game. I'm still gonna get the game because I have been anticipating it since playing the beta, but I can fully see why people would want to boycott this sort of thing, and already have started doing so.

What do you think. Is this taking the DLC train a little too far?

Indie Mondays: Little Racers STREET Review (Xbox 360)

By adawg555 02-06-2012 08:37 PM
I originally posted this at my website www.BGBureau.com and in the forums, but I figured I'd post it here for more to see as well.

We at the Better Gaming Bureau think that Indie Games are criminally overlooked.

The Xbox 360, PS3, PC, and Wii are all ripe with small games from small developers that are ready to provide hours of fun at a small price if someone were to just give them a chance. This is why we are introducing a new feature, Indie Mondays. With Indie Mondays, we take a look at these type games every other week and let you know whether to Buy, Try, or Skip a particular title altogether. We hope this serves as a way to both provide great game suggestions for gamers, and give these Indie developers some of the coverage they deserve. With that being said, let's introduce the first game Indie Mondays took a look at: Little...

We celebrated the end of the gaming lull by purchasing neither Final Fantasy XII-2 or Soul Calibur 5! To be fair, we were too worn down by our Pinball war. But we do preview some games coming later this year, watch the trailer for one game you have to see to believe, and recommend some more games which you may not have heard about.

Endless Backlog Update 1-28-2012

By adawg555 01-29-2012 05:35 PM
Hey guys! I haven't done one of these updates in a while, but rest assured that I have not abandoned the Endless Backlog Project. If you subscribe to me on Youtube you already know that I have kicked my game completion into high gear. If you don't, then let me update you on what has happened with the EBP since I last updated this blog.

In my update, which I posted exactly a month ago, I had just finished Call of Duty 4, Batman Arkham Asylum, and had been working my way through Forza 3's Season Mode. Since then, I knocked out Stuntman Ignition, which turned out to be much easier than I thought in comparison to its predecessor, and also destroyed fake Blake Griffin in order to become Heavyweight Champion of the world in Fight Night Round 3. Right after that match, I retired from the boxing world with all of my faculties mostly intact. My video commentaries on both of those games can be found below.

I have also decided to do a little Retrospective/Informal Review...

My cousin's girlfriend isn't too fond of the usual sports and shooter fare, and we aren't too keen on playing Lego Harry Potter for any significant amount of time, either. Back to the Backlog!

By adawg555 12-29-2011 12:11 AM

Hey everybody. It's been a little bit since I made a progress report on the Endless Backlog Project. School and other projects have kept me mum for a while, but with all of that done it is back to the backlog.

The last time I posted, I had been making progress on Forza 3. I haven't finished it yet, but I am on Season 5 and will be done soon. The Season races take forever so I am not really in a rush to get them done ASAP. I'm just doing a few a week at this point and it'll be done when it's done.

I did beat Batman Arkham Asylum, however, so you can cross that one off the list as completed game #3 of (I lost count already). I know I am supposed to document this via video on Youtube, but AA is stuck on my Laptop which wasn't powerful enough to run FRAPS and AA at the same time for recording. Just look at my Live Achievements if you need proof.

That brings me to game #6, which is Call of Duty 4,...
