I Hate Gamestop the Way I Hate Comic Book Shops
By Fever Dogg 10-23-2009 01:01 PM

I dont know if anyone has recently been to a comic shop, or if anyone here reads comics, but I think Gamestop and Comic shops have one giant hiring pool. For those of you who dont know what I am talking about let me explain. If you are a hobbyist, or the now common term fanboy, their is probably a store you can go to fill your hobby needs. I think the problem with niche hobbies like comic books, or to some degree video games, the retail outlets they occupy are ran by fans of said hobby. This means when you walk into the store they already assume you don't know dick compared to them since they work at the store. Look I'm not a prude by any means, but how about a little customer service. Perhaps I dont fit the physical description of your average gamer, or comics reader so I get some looks when I walk into these places. I guess I look like a guy who only buys Madden, or a generic game, and doesnt know my shit about RPGS, RTS, or any other genre. Not that any of this really matters, but...

Nintendo DSi or PSP
By Fever Dogg 10-23-2009 11:18 AM

For awhile now I have been considering getting a PSP or DSi. I have played very little on both handhelds so I'm still on the fence. I like the fact that PSP now has the option for downloads (UMD isnt a deal breaker for me), but from what I have played on DS, it seems to have a wider library of genres. I guess they are two different experiences, but DS has the top notch Nintendo franchises (that seem to have reviewed well) made specifically for DS, and the PSP has a lot of ports from PSone and PS2. Anything I should know about either handheld? Flaws? Experiences? Lets me know.

Are Video Games Worth 60 Bucks? |
|
For the most part I think the answer is yes, however games could be cheaper. Personally I don't play a lot of multiplayer so I'm not sure if a game like Brutal Legend is worth the full 60 bucks (for me). Uncharted 2 on the other hand has co-op missions that act as a part of continuing the story, and is very deep in gameplay. I kind of wish that Sony and Microsoft would use digital distribution as a way for the consumer to buy the portion of the game the player wants. For example if I wanted to only play the story mode of a game they would charge me 30-40 dollars, and if I wanted multiplayer they could charge me 20-30 dollars. Of course this is all wishful thinking, but the big three could see more of a return on games that aren't as popular or are not as well established. My point is that at least they would get more money from those willing to "try" a game for 30-40 dollars. Plus lets not forget that 60 dollars these days "gets you in the door", and then DLC three...

Project Natal: Removing The Barrier?
By Fever Dogg 10-14-2009 02:05 PM

"People who didn't grow up gaming, they look at this thing with all these buttons, and sticks, and controls, triggers and it's not a natural device for them."
-Microsoft Game Studios Phil Spencer That was a quote from a kataku.com article I read earlier today. While I think the controller may be a barrier for some, I think those people aren't going to play games anyway. Lets face it, Natal, Wii, and maybe the Sony wand are in development for the casual gamer, or those who haven't played at all. It seems as if Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony believe this will bring in a new group of 50-60 somethings who would have gamed, only the darn controller didn't let them. Mark my words, there will be just as much a learning curve with Natal as there is with a standard controller. When I showed the Wii to my mom, she did not just pick the thing up and go to town. I walked her through bowling, Mario Galaxy, even Red Steel when that POS came out. Regardless of motion... |

Free Uncharted 2 Bonus Item Code
By Fever Dogg 10-13-2009 06:44 PM

Here is a code I got for pre-ordering Uncharted 2. I have an extra, so who ever reads this first gets this one. The exclusive in-game bonus item is REVENGE ATTRIBUTE. Apparently it is one of the last boosters you can unlock in multiplayer.

PSPgo Confusion
By Fever Dogg 10-13-2009 10:57 AM
|
|
I have been a little confused about some of the criticism toward the PSPgo. Let me start by saying I do not own a PSPgo and do not fancy myself a Sony fanboy. One of the biggest slams I have heard is that there is no UMD solution. The fact of the matter is that there doesnt have to be one. Lets face it this handheld is not for those who currently own a PSP. Now some may say," no shit, of course it isnt for current owners". However another group will say, "For $250.00 I should be able to transfer my library of games". All are legit claims, but Sony's new portable is for those who are gods of the digital age, and don't need hard media. While $250.00 is steep (I recently read the PS3 fat is dropping to $250.00), no one is forcing the already installed base to buy this thing. You are for sure paying a convenience fee for the GO, but who doesnt want to be ale to carry their library of games and device with them?

Epic Mickey's Heart of Darkness V. 2.0
By Fever Dogg 10-13-2009 12:57 AM

The other day I posted using black font on black background. Not bad for my first blog post on here huh? Well here is what I wrote...
I recently saw the released art for the Wii's Epic Mickey (which I guess is the actual name?) and something stuck out. I said to myself, "Why does that look so familiar?". It took me two days but Epic Mickey looked like Heart of Darkness for the PSX. Now these two games im sure have zero similarities, but Epic Mickey reminded me of my love for Heart of Darkness. For those of you who have never seen, heard, or played the game you missed out. The game itself was way ahead of its time n my opinion. This title included a compelling story line, awesome atmosphere, and some of the best game animation at the time. It was very (original) Prince of Persia in the way the main character moved and explored the world. The game then was like an old school 2D platformer (old school in the sense everything had moved to 3D) which really benefited... |
