This is the poem I've always wanted to write!

After writing Daydreamin' (An Ode to Super Mario Bros.) I knew I wanted a poem that referenced more than just Mario. And since video games have been a big part of my life, I wanted to personify my life as a video game. I think I finally accomplished that in this poem. I worked hard on this one and I hope you guys enjoy reading it! I think anyone can relate to this poem. Gamer or not. This is probably the last video game related poem I will post until I write something new. Anyway, enjoy!

Grew up weaker
Than most
Couldn't afford
Powerups

Always knew
I was special
Bio says I’m
The main character

Started with the
Basics
Bricks with
Question marks

Had to answer
The mystery
Myself
Got older

Wanted more
Expensive things
Out to collect
Seven emeralds...

The 90's: Part 2

By kburns10 06-26-2010 10:30 PM
Sorry for the wait guys! Here it is! Part 2 of my 90's poems. I hope to someday finish Part 3!

Woke up the next day and it would appear
I've lost Scooby Doo. Where are you?
(Ooover here)
Ah! That's better! Now my day gets started

Hit the bus
Couldn't cuss
But the School House Rocked
Back in the day I was All That!

Plotting, scheming like Kenan
But you're dreaming if you think I passed up a bottle of Orange Soda
IS IT TRUE?!
How should I know? Figure It Out!

The secret word is...slime
Green with envy
I wanted to be on Global Guts but I guess I didn't have it in me
Send me to

CAMP ANAWANNA!
We hold you in our hearts
And when we think about you
I think class is about to start...

Daydreaming again
Teacher walks in
Heads up 7 UP!
Couldn't wait for recess when I'd find Red...

The 90's: Part 1

By kburns10 06-21-2010 12:04 AM
Inspiration can come from the weirdest places!

Chain letters. We all get them. We all hate them. Except for the one that became the inspiration for this poem. I got a chain letter one time asking if I remembered the 90's. Of course I do! Best time to be a child EVER! Power Rangers, Pokemon, Ninja Turtles; we had it all! I started to think about the 90's more and all the things I missed about it. I think I did a decent job of summing up mine and probably a lot of people's childhoods in this poem. I present to you: The 90's: Part 1. Enjoy!

Wake up Saturday morning with cereal in hand
Captain Planet on TBS and my day begins
He told me the power is yours!
But I think those Rangers over on Fox would disagree!

They said not to try this at home unless you’re me
Get up and go to the kitchen to fix another bowl
I’m loving today! I never wanna grow old!
I flipped to Nickelodeon and what would you know?...

Daydreamin' (An Ode to Super Mario Bros.)

Like most people, one of the first games I ever played was Super Mario Bros. I really think that game is the test of if you will be a gamer or not (I'm not sure what the equivalent would be to that game today). Instantly I was hooked! Despite being a Sega kid, there will always be a soft spot in my heart for saving the princess.

I started a poem one day called "Daydreamin". It was supposed to be a stream of conscience poem. I got writer's block and returned to it months later. When I returned to it, it took on a life of it's own. It soon became my ode to one of my favorite video games of all time. So enjoy my tribute poem to Mario! It's hard out there for a plumber.

For those of you who would rather read, here is the poem in written form.

Mind you, I had my mind made up when I saw
