Tales from the Otherguy - 20th Century Legacy
By Otherguy676 03-15-2010 01:22 AM

Its the last day of Spring Break and I find myself sitting by my computer looking at a blank screen while trying to do my law research assignment (think thesis) with 5 weeks left to finish. I'm unable to start as my mind is elsewhere and I thought I should write about it. This post is about the life and death of a man I meant when he was 93 who I found out passed away recently. Read on if you like, just wanted to make sure the reader was aware that this covered life and death.
My Jewish, grandmother and grandfather has a large hand in raising me. My grandfather died when I was a kid, leaving my grandmother to raise me. My grandfather was a great man, some day I will post about him. My grandmother ended up watching me grow until right before I graduated college when she passed away. I will post about her some day also. This is where the story begins. My grandmother was in the Hebrew Home in Hartford Connecticut. She had befriended a lady who had a room in the hall... |

Tales from the Otherguy - Final Fantasy XIII Running Diary p. 1 |
|
Its been a long time since I've done a blog, so I thought I would try my first game running diary
A few things about a gaming running diary before I begin - There will be misspellings, I am typing this as I play, these are my first impressions as I witness them - I know you can't watch me play so a lot of this won't make sense for you unless you are playing also, hopefully you can still get some enjoyment out of this - I was totally inspired by Bill Simmons (the Sports Guy) on ESPN.com for his Running Diaries, check out his columns if you like Sports, its worth your time 11:55 - Left my apartment to join the huddled masses to buy Final Fantasy XIII 12ish - while driving to wal-mart after seeing a gamestop by full sail with over 300ish people outside, I realize how much I hate myself. I have my upper level writing requirement (final paper) for law school to work on, tons of reading / outlining, and my final mediation on Monday.... |

Tales from the Otherguy - Incrediblee
By Otherguy676 11-19-2009 09:34 PM

There are words that are tossed around that describe fun / meaningful / unforgetful things and events. Amazing. Awsome. Incrediblee. I never really use these words to describe something because I don't think think many things reach their standards. Since this is cheapassgamer, the point of reference would be great deals. I myself have gotten in on some deals that have seen my game collection go from about 200 to 1500 plus games since I joined this site. Some of those deals have hit the description of amazing, but its a very rare thing. To relate it to life, in a broader sense, its just rare that something is so great that it can be described like that. This is part of my self reflection, not a statement of depression, but a statement of how great life gets when you get to that point, when you recognize you are having an amazing time, or that something completely awsome happened to you. Its something, that as people, we want to record and hold onto forever but we cant, because...

Tales from the Other Guy - High School Reunion
By Otherguy676 07-27-2009 12:12 AM

10 years......words cannot describe. When I graduated, I remember during the last few weeks of school people joking around about what a 10 year reunion would be like. Everyone has their opinion on how it would, how you'd see everyone again, all of it. I already wrote a blog about what I thought it was like. Well, I was completely wrong.
Like the old Mortal Kombat ads said, Nothing could prepare you for this. That is how true as it gets. Since High School my life is defined by my schooling which amounts to 2 bachelor degrees, a Masters, 2 1/2 years doing counseling (gotta use that Master's), and now back in school for a law degree. Needless to say, I moved way beyond high school (quote of the night was someone tell me they peeked in high school and people like me peeked in college, which is far better than peeking in high school). Coming back to see people was different. Out of 300 plus people in the class, only a grand total of 35-40 of us showed up. I remembered... |

Tales from the Otherguy - Cave Living
By Otherguy676 07-17-2009 02:17 PM
|
|
For the third time since last August, I am now in cave living mode. What cave living mode means is that I hit study week for my final exams for the semester of law school. I think a brief explanation is in order before I go further....
In law school, your grade in each class (outside of Legal Writing) is determined by your final exam. Nothing else matters, a bad test day equals a bad grade. It is the one chance to sign each and every semester and once the test is over you live with what you have, so you know, no pressure. The thing about law grades is that your graded against a curve, its competition based. This means that if everyone gets an A (or vice versa) then the lowest amount of As get Ds or Fs. So once again, no pressure if you happen to miss that footnote that your professor didn't. Since law schools are not heartless institutions, they give you one week to study for your finals with no classes. This is usually the time when you go from trying to understand... |

Tales from the Otherguy - Almost Reunion time

Last of the Century, Best of the Century!
That was the slogan for my high school class of 1999, a year when the world was freaked out over the Y2K bug. 1999 was the game changer in my life as it was the year my high school, based in a town whose name appears on a brand of butter, released me into the wild of world. When I graduated in 1999, walking through a one hit wonder from Vitamin C, and hearing the cows next to the football field mooing, I looked around and asked myself about what happens when I see everyone 10 years later......... ......well, welcome to 10 years later. My High School Reunion is coming up quicker than gas prices and I am starting to anticipate the big day. I hastily bought my ticket, thinking that an open bar sounded fun, but now as the time comes, I wonder how big a deal this day actually is. I interact with several people I graduated with, none of whom are currently going. This defeats the idea of an open bar as if your not going... |

Tales from the Otherguy - Perfection Part 1
By Otherguy676 07-10-2009 12:28 AM
|
|
Perfection is a word that I use and hear the most that I have no idea what it means. It is a word that has made me break my almost 11 month hiatus from blogging (thanks law school) to discuss. It is a word that has had multiple meanings at different times of my life. It is also the word most relevant to me right now.
This blog can be considered my goodbye blog to a major part of the last 6 plus years of my life. What I mean by that is that I met perfection on Febraury 14th, 2003. By perfection, I meant what was perfect for me at the time. Perfection was someone who I knew would be something to me. This person was perfect and I accepted them as that. There were things which I didn't like about the person, sure, but everyone has things going on and I accept people as is as all that mattered to me was me was we liked each other, its what made her Perfection and all I needed. I began dating perfection November 26th, 2003. The person was still perfection to me and... |

A view from the Otherguy - Leaving Work

You live there. You eat there. In my case (though I would never admit it) you sometimes nap there. You spend a large part of your adult life there and most of the time you are there, you wish daydream about being somewhere else. I used to like my job. I've always liked the people, but being the youngest always made it hard. As I grow up, I find it hard to hit the point where I am officially an adult. It seems the bar has been set back for my generation as we still adore our generations heroes that have resurfaced to say its not time to grow up. These luminaries include such people as Optimus Prime , the G. I. Joe Crew, Spider-Man (as comics become main stream) and of course Video Game characters - whose popularity allow CAG to exist. I have been in transition from the teenager/young adult category to "adult" since I have recieved my Master's degree in May 2006. I went to work shortly thereafter and met a person that was looking for someone like me that was in the...

Tales from the Otherguy - CAG 2.0
By Otherguy676 07-21-2008 10:13 PM

I dont know if boredom has finally taken ahold or if I dont want to be left out, but I can let Cheapy's efforts go to waste on this new blog thing so I think Ill take a shot at it. Its good to see the CAG update, I was one of the many refreshing the night it was supposed to be on, and like every great thing in life, it was late. I've realized that night while my computer and I were alone and I kept hitting "refresh" during some TNT movie that I am a CAG addict. I don't mean that in a good/bad way, I mean that for the last 2-2 1/2 years of my life, that I have been coming to CAG each day like clockwork. Its habitual, like a alcoholic having to take a drink each day or a OCD person not being to step on the cracks of a sidewalk. I have been doing the same thing with CAG. I have the usual forums I check and I know what avatars are going to make the informative comments, the smart@$$ comments, and who is going to criticize every dang post. I can tell you when certain avatars...
