Review: Sam and Max Season 1 (Xbox Arcade)

By The Ellster 12-17-2010 03:25 PM

The Good
Jokes are witty and pleasingly suggestive and will atleast make you smile
Quite a long season for your money
Good Voice acting
Fun characters
Good graphics

The Bad
Terrible frame rate
Frustrating controls
Story could be more varied

Conclusion
If you played the original Sam and Max Hit the Road like me, then your opinions on this one will be mixed. I honestly liked the return of sam and max and was happy to see more eventual editions but the controls and frame rate made me want to go hunting dogs and rabbits. 8/10

Review: Tony Hawks Underground 2 (Xbox)

By The Ellster 12-08-2010 08:21 AM

The Good
More light Hearted then the first Underground
Nice use of special guests
Great customization options, such as creating your own graffiti tag
Fun Story
Great soundtrack
Great around the world level design
Good use of Jackass
Classic mode inclusion extends the length of the game
Will play on Xbox 360

The Bad
Graphics are not revolutionary
Not a giant update

Conclusion
This game was in the light hearted time of gaming. The time before everything practically went as dark as night in my opinion. To me this reminds me of Burnout 3 and that means if you like the genre, and don't mind not getting achievement points, go back to the time before Tony Hawks games faceplanted and play this game. 8/10

Review: Burnout 3 Takedown (PS2)

By The Ellster 12-07-2010 01:10 PM

The Good
Very Addictive gameplay
Great Graphics
Fantastic Crashes
Amazing Soundtrack
Great Tracks
Crash Mode was a genius innovation
Pick up and Play action
Simple Menus

The Bad
Crashes are fun for a while but can eventually get annoying
No Licensed Cars

Conclusion
There's only one reason not to get this game even now and that's is if you don't like racing games. Otherwise this is just an essential arcade racer that throws realism out of a 20 story high window 10/10

Review: Bayonetta (Xbox 360)

By The Ellster 12-06-2010 12:06 PM

The Good
Fast, Intuitive Combat
Stunning Graphics
Amazing Boss Battles
Interesting Monster designs
Good to see another woman protagonist other then Lara Croft

The Bad
Ridiculous, hard to follow story
Repetitive gameplay
Button mashing can hurt after a while
Spike in difficulty towards the end

Conclusion
If you like devil may cry you will like this almost carbon copy version, as long as you focus on the action and not the story. 9/10

Review: Xbox 360 Controller

By The Ellster 12-03-2010 05:40 PM

I don't care if I look like a Xbox fan boy because it is honestly my favourite console. The console also has my favourite controller. The first time I held it I knew I was going to like it. Everyone by now has probably held this controller before and either loves it or hates it. I feel like I have more control over games when I am playing with the 360 controller, which is odd because like many, before the 360 I never though anything could beat the Playstation controller. I like the different colour buttons on the 360 controller and it feels nice to hold. There is a downside for me though. I stick to batteries now because the play and charge kit batteries wear out way too fast in my opinion and I don't like playing wired constantly. Other then that there isn't much more to say. 10/10
P.S Like always appreciating any comments

Review: Xbox 360 Vision Cam

By The Ellster 12-02-2010 03:51 PM

The first thing I remember about the vision cam is the freaky advert. It got my attention but gave me the wrong message. I don't really care about my gametag pic enough to buy this thing. Of course I know it did more but nothing really drew me in until I saw it cheap with your in the movies and I finally brought it. It was everything I was expected. Low resolution camera, not enough software support over time, poor body recognition but with some redeeming features. I create characters alot in video games when I can and I always hate creating the faces because it takes so long. With some games however, the vision cam is supported which makes creating a character 10 times better. If you had the Eyetoy for PS2, the process is the same. All you do is take a photo of your face from different angles and plot the main points on your face. The game will then generate a computer image of...

Review: Chatpad and Headset Xbox 360

By The Ellster 12-01-2010 01:52 PM

Have you ever got a message from a friend on Xbox while playing a game and not bothering to write them back because it takes too long? Well then this Chatpad is for you. It comes with a headset which you may not need, but it's a great back up. If you have an older headset with a bulky connection end then you will have to use the headset that comes with it but it's all official so it's The chatpad is well built and easy to message with. You can use it for any text, whether in a game or talking to a friend. The keys light up so there is never a problem in seeing them and after a while it will become natural to use. I like the extra meat it adds to the controller and doesn't distract me from gaming.

In conclusion the chatpad is practically a must have for online gamers. You wont regret this purchase and the headset is...

Review: Xbox 360 Universal Remote

By The Ellster 11-30-2010 06:08 PM

How useful is this remote? Well it really depends on your needs. For me I like having one remote for my T.V and Xbox. It doesn't mean Iv'e thrown away my T.V remote because that would be stupid but this remote has served the purpose quite well. I also use it mainly for Sky Player, which it is very useful for if your in the U.K or watch movies on Zune *cough* Anyway the controller is well built and is battery operated (2 AA batteries). Its quite easy to set up, I would suggest following the automatic instructions for set up i.e letting the remote find your T.V rather then enter your T.V's code because I couldn't find mine. If it is confusing to you there are plenty of YouTube videos to help you out.

In closing this accessory is dated but still useful in my opinion. I'm pretty much a sucker for anything accessory related but this is still easy to recommend. 9/10

Review: Little Big Planet (PSP)

By The Ellster 11-26-2010 05:41 PM

The moment this game was announced, I knew I was going to get it. It's cute as hell and is a pretty good port from the PS3 version.

Little Big Planet PSP is not a straight port from PS3 though. It's a different game but keeps alot of the charm and originality from the PS3 version. It looks great and plays really well on the PSP. If you have never played Little Big Planet before it's a part platforming, part creative workshop game. You play as Sackboy which you can customise to your hearts content. You play as Sackboy to help out people in different worlds, which is fun but only half of the game. The real draw of the game is the level creating. Its as comprehensive as the PS3 version yet still not really user friendly. You get quite a long tutorial which you will definitely want to watch. You may find you just are a natural at creating...

Review: Enslaved Odyssey to the West (Xbox 360)

By The Ellster 11-23-2010 04:28 PM

Tired of looking at video game characters that look like there looking at there kids Christmas play for a couple of hours? Me too. 9 times out of 10 video game characters are robotic, lifeless and un interesting which takes you out of the experience from the beginning. This isn't the case for Enslaved.

The first thing you will probably notice is the characters faces. There whole face moves with complete believability and can almost tell the story with their faces. I never knew eyebrow movements were so important but they really are. The difference is quite incredible and you ask yourself why other video game's suck at it. For me the characters instantly became somewhat important to me and i was into the story from word one.

You play as Monkey, a slave that has no real place to be or go and you are...

Review: Tekken 6 (Xbox 360)

By The Ellster 11-16-2010 06:01 PM

"Welcome to the King of Iron Fist Tournament 6" Yes once you hear the words, you know the game it can only be Tekken. Tekken finally reaches the next generation and honestly trips and falls on its face on the way to the fighting arena and only just gets up.

Make no mistake, this game is great. However it has so many holes its amazing that I can still call it great. The way to find out how good a Tekken game is, is by taking on a friend one on one and hope you will be fighting for hours. This Tekken is no exception as you will be fighting for a while, especially online. I felt great beating so many people online and even when i did get my butt kicked I felt like my money was well spent. However I have to remind my self there is another mode, Campaign. I have so many problems with the Campaign that i'm surprised i still even have this game. It made me so frustrated I could have thrown this game...

Review: Assassins Creed 2 (Xbox 360)

By The Ellster 11-13-2010 12:43 PM

Oh Assassins Creed how I love you so. A game that you can either love or hate and personally I love it. Having played the first one intently, I like many others contemplated whether there would be a squeal or not and when it was announced I could barely believe it. I ignored everything people said about the first games repetitive gameplay and rather easy fighting mechanic because I got sucked into to the story so much.

Assassins Creed 2 still focuses on Desmond Miles as he is still being probed for information about the Apple of Eden. In this game he is still put into the Animus but has a lot more freedom himself now as he learns to become an Assassin. As important as he is the real star of the show is Ezio Auditore De Frenzie ( sorry is misspelt) as he finds he way around more open landscapes then Altair. The game is set in the Renaissance era this time around and what a difference it makes. The colours are...

Review: Saints Row 2 (Xbox 360)

By The Ellster 11-11-2010 06:34 PM

"Saints Row the GTA wannabe" as said but some but definitely not all especially me. When i play GTA i don't expect to be fighting Zombies or cutting people up with chainsaws because that's not how GTA rolls any more and to be honest i thinks that a shame. Well i would think that's a shame if i didn't get to do it anywhere else however Saints Row 2 serves that sort of unrealistic fun to me in trucks fill that gap.

I think the first question is why am i reviewing a game that is two years old. Well the answer is some games are timeless and Saints Row 2 for now is in that category. Okay the graphics are not super realistic and the cutscenes are not as polished as GTA but the game makes up for it in its gameplay, soundtrack and story.

Saints Row 2 starts off where you left off of in Saints Row 1. You remake your characters appearance choosing from a wealth of options including...

Review: Formula One 2010 (Xbox 360)

By The Ellster 11-09-2010 03:14 PM
Updated by The Ellster 11-09-2010 05:38 PM

Formula one. Hated by some, loved by others. A sport which video games have had some goes at but most of the time have honestly fallen at the starting line. Does F1 2010 change this trait? Well a little

First the good. The graphics are the best seen in formula one games history and that should make sense because Codemasters rarely fall on their face when it comes to graphics. The tracks are recreated in fantastic details as well as the cars, pit crews and weather effects. The rain may actually be the best i have personally seen in a video game in general. But a game can look as pretty as a supermodel but looks only go so far. The gameplay is realistic to the point of somewhat frustration for gamers who like to spend their gaming time having fun. It is almost certain you will go off the track ALOT when first getting to grips with this game and may still do for some time. The AI is also quite unforgiving...

WWE Smackdown Vs Raw 2011 Review (Xbox 360)

By The Ellster 11-04-2010 07:51 PM
Updated by The Ellster 11-09-2010 03:19 PM

Maybe i am a little late to the party for this game but i will give my thoughts anyway and hope they are somewhat important. I wont bore people with the stats and information on this game as it is already widely known. So first up is the WWE Universe. I really think this new mode gives players a reason to always be playing more Exhibition matches which is how the developers meant it i guess. The random events work pretty well and the overall integration of this mode with the main menu works very well and it will be interesting to see how far this mode will go the more matches you play.

Next is Road To Wrestlemania. I like the idea of this mode. Everyone loved the story mode shut your mouth and here comes the pain because it felt more open and diverse. It was more then just cutscene after cutscene with no real control and to see the more diverse format back in a way is great. The execution of this is questionable...
