Pax 2010

Updated by kube00 09-08-2010 01:11 AM
I've got some stuff to giveway later this week, I"ll also post pics when my camera recharges

Anyways this was my first PAX. I stayed south of Seattle with my inlaws and I missed out on Friday due to work. I got to go as a member of the Press which had its advantages such as being let into the EXPO hall 1 hr before everyone else on Sat. Some Exhibitors also let me cut lines which I'm not certain I was in the right doing.

I gave away a fair amount of business cards, had some interviews, netted a few freebies. I wish I had taken more pictures.

Highlights of PAX:
-DNF oh yeah Hail to the King it was great to see and play the game
-Epic Mickey, I got to sit down at a round table with Warren Spector, this will be a reason to own a Wii, let me tell you.

Other games/stuff I checked out:
-NBA Jam for the Wii, its fun but unless it less then $30 I'll pass.
-inFamous 2 and Little Big Planet 2 were fun, both of those...

Well this weekend I fired up Prototype something I picked up cheaply back in April, it feels like inFamous...who knows I may not finish it

I also fired up Episodes from Liberty City and it highlights what I hate and love about GTA IV.

Other then that work's been crazy, lots of OT due to the fact we have our own regions now and that means less time in the office more time on the road.

I'm also headed to PAX Prime in September hopefully as a member of the press.

Broken ps3 update

By kube00 01-10-2010 04:25 AM
I went out and bought a refurbished 120 gb ps3 slim. After a few more trade ins at GS (I took advantage of the $20 trade in credit on certain games that they were offering, most of the games I traded in were purchased for $10 or less), I also threw in my crappy ps2 games, and my old dualshock 3. I got a 2 year warranty, and with the rest of my credit from a few months ago I paid $48 out of pocket.

A few of the games I traded in Fallout 3, RE5, and Saints Row 2 are already coming to me through Goozex.

New Slim is amazing. It's super quiet and it looks small next to the 60 gb. I played some MW2 and Darksiders today.

I'm planning to fix my 60 gb, through one of the two services I found, get my data off and then I'll either trade it to GS or sell it on ebay/CL

Work and stuff, and the anniv

By kube00 09-24-2009 02:55 AM
So its been 8 months since I took my new job, you guys remember those angry whiney blogs? Most of them have been deleted by me...

With Winter coming on I've started looking again for something closer for about the same pay. I'm not worried about driving in the snow, but Im more worried about the line term wear and tear on my car. I've had a few hits. potential interview at one of the local hospitals as a bio-medical tech, I guess with my IT experience they could use someone like me. I would be testing and upkeeping equipment much like I do now. I also applied at a local Agriculture company centering around Potatoes that had IT openings, either job would be the same pay with a 15 min drive one way instead on an hr

The job itself is going good. I was getting massive amounts of OT which was leaving very little time for gaming. I had to cut down on the OT cause my boss asked me too, but with one of the guys in the IT department I work with is out on paternity...

Battlefield BC

By kube00 08-02-2009 08:40 PM
So I got into the Beta of this game last year in May, and my wife got it for me in Aug of 08

I traded in to get Fallout 3 in October of 08

I recently got BF BC from Goozex again, what can I say, its great I didnt have to start a new game to get trophies (Damn you Rockstar!). And there's still tons of people playing which makes it even better!

Its less then $20 at GS and its like 300 pts on Goozex, go get it and lets play!

Gaming, life, the 4th, and being sick

Updated by kube00 09-22-2009 03:36 PM
I'll make this quick. Due to the fact I'm not feeling well and stayed home from work

Gaming wise:
In the last 2 months I've gotten/bought more games then I normally do
Fallout 3 trade from CAG close to beating
Battlefield BC Goozex
Infamous beaten
Def Jam fight for nyc beaten
Red Faction

I'm sure for a lot of CAGs, 5 games in 2 months is a very small amount

The 4th, went to the lovely West side of the Evergreen State and saw my inlaws. Took the Wii over there and they actually used it, first time that bad boy had been turned on since March.

Hung out with one of my good friends, we were going to go to the International Beer Festival in Seattle, but the line was too long. So we hit up several dive bars and got hammered. Then we went and saw Green Day in concert. And ever though it was nosebleed seats and the pictures turned out crappy it was well worth it. They played old and new stuff, they didn't...

InFamous...done!

By kube00 06-20-2009 06:46 PM
Well I beat infamous today on normal. I went "infamous," the last few missions were more difficult then I expected. I'd say I collected about 75% of the shards and grabbed about 50% of the drops. I don't think Im going to play though it again. I would say I but around 30 hrs into it.

It was a good game. I enjoyed the characters and I thought the story was good, there were plenty of twists and turns. Is it worth the full $50? I would say yes, the reviews of it seem to hit the nails on the head.

I found a few bugs in the game which made me fall through the world. Also as Cheapy and Wombat mentioned the enemies are terrible accurate with their weapons which becomes a pain later on in the game.

Anyways its up on my TL, I'd take a gently used Prototype or Red Faction for it. Who knows I might be interested in other ps3 games? It's also for sale.

Fallout 3 and what I've been playing

By kube00 06-17-2009 03:26 PM
Updated by kube00 06-20-2009 06:47 PM
So after trading away my copy of Killzone 2 for Fallout 3 and New Super Mario Bros, I'm slightly addicted to Fallout 3.

I owned the game back in October but I just couldn't get into it. So I traded it away. But now I'm hooked, my brother came over this weekend and he's played through it for at least 3 times for pc, so he started a game for me and we flew through the first few main quests.

I'm hooked and enjoying being evil. Do all the quests and kill the townspeople, do whatever I want with no consequences, its great!

This game even made me but down Infamous, I'm on mission 22 in that game and playing evil, I have about 13-14 misisons left. I'm enjoying that game and its nice to play for 10-15 mins here and there vs Fallout 3 where 2 hrs will go by and I'm like woah!

I also picked up Def Jam Fight for NY from a garage sale. I gave it a few hrs of my time. Its a fun game that has some depth to it.

I've also found the...

Gaming Update, what have I been playing as well as the usual crap I whine about

By kube00 05-25-2009 09:27 PM
Updated by kube00 06-20-2009 06:47 PM
So here's a quick look into this gamer's brain

Recently within the last week I've been playing RE5 a lot, foucusing on vs and mercs mode, hoping to get through campaign again. All in all I miss some of the elements of the older games, but I do enjoy the co-op play. I foresee this game as being something like GTA IV, a game that I will get my full $60 out of with over 40 hrs of play time.

Infamous Demo-Beaten it twice, I'm almost sold on the game, although I'm worried about the longevity.

Bourne Conspiracy-Got it from dv8mad's lowball sale. I'd been trying to find this game for less then $30 for a while and now I have it. Beat it in 8 hrs on medium difficulty, I should have rented it but I felt like supporting a fellow CAG. Its now on the TL and Goozex

Backlog:
COD Waw: I need to figure out if I want to get the DLC
No More Heroes: Its sealed and unopened.. and it may stay that way
Dark Sector: Another dv8mad game,...

Quick thoughts on RE5

By kube00 04-10-2009 02:10 AM
Being a long time fan I got the game, and I've had it for about two weeks and today I cracked it open.

First impressions: It looks good. Controls are quick and responsive. I like the idea of co-op with another person, there are lots of people playing right now, some are veterans to the series and others are noobs. I bought the game b/c I am a big Resident Evil fan and 4 was one of the best games I have ever played.

The negatives: Computer co-op is not that great. Sheeva is semi stupid, I would have preferred the Ashely option from RE4. I'm flying through the game pretty quickly which makes me wonder how long it really is. Also the dumb revamped inventory, its smaller and there is no pause function. Also where is my friend the merchant? If you plan to play online get a mic please it makes everything easier.

Thins I'm looking foward too: Mercenaries mode, Albert Wesker showing up, and maybe the DLC.

Xbox console oh where can I find thee....and some Saints Row 2

By kube00 04-01-2009 02:56 AM
Im sure you've seem my requests in the forums and on my TL. Im looking for an xbox. Preferrably one that was manufactured after 2004, I would really like a Halo, Mt Dew, or Crystal xbox

And on another note I finished Saints Row 2 last night. It's a decent game most of it never feels like a chore. Although I thought the flying in GTA IV was nasty, I found Saints Row 2 to be far more cumbersome. Most of the mini games were okay for a few rounds but many of them including escort became stale quickly. I wish there were more people that played multiplayer, at least with GTA IV I can still find people to play online with.

Trade in value galore

By kube00 03-22-2009 12:05 AM
Went to Hastings and got $40 for my copy of SW TFU for ps3, not too shabby, when I paid $9 for it.

Garage sales were terrible, I didn't see jack. Pawn shops were also low on stock

But I did hit up GS and trade in a few things:
Condemned 2 ps3
New Super Mario Bros DS
Cooking Mama DS
Burnout Revenge ps2
RE Umbrella Chronicles Wii
Silent Hill 2 ps2
God of War ps2
Pokemon Emerald
After bonuses +40% and edge I got $114.76

Total actually spent on those games God of War was a gift 3 years ago when it had just gone to GH, Burnout Revenge a trade from CAG about 2 years ago, Cooking Mama 200 Goozex pts about a month ago, New Super Mario Bros also from Goozex 450 pts, Silent Hill 2 free, Condemned 2 $5 from Gamefly, and Pokemon Emerald $4.

So total spent $9, and most of the Goozex pts came in from referrals.

So I think I did pretty well and our offer on the house went through,

Saints Row 2 and a little GS rant

By kube00 01-07-2009 12:46 AM
What can I say that hasn't been said already? GTA IV this is not, yet it has some elements of San Andreas in it. I've only played for about 3 hr so here's what I've seen. Melee combat is fun and the missions are easy. The bonuses such as customizing your crib and your character are the fun bits GTA may have missed. The co-cop also looks fun but I'm worried it may be tough to find people. GTA IV for ps3 still has a decent online community.
SR2 ditches the realsim of GTA IV and pokes fun at everything which is all over the top. Although at times the AI seems a bit spotty. I'm glad I traded to get this game and I look foward to messing around with it. I would say an ideal price tag would be between $30-$40 for this game.

And finally a GS rant, I've decided with the whole HWV thing there is only one GS I'll go to out of the 4 in my area. The one in the mall; sure its crowded, full of little screaming kids, and smells odd. But the guys...

COD WaW

By kube00 12-22-2008 07:34 PM
Updated by kube00 12-23-2008 01:37 PM
So I just finished COD WaW, I'd say on normal difficulty its about 10 hrs long. And it felt like COD 4 for the most part, there were a few new things but the biggest difference is that this game took place 60 years ago instead of being set in the present.

The WWII Europe front has you playing as the Soviets which to COD and MOH fans feels slightly redundant, and as usual there is a lot of frantic run and gun. There's a lot more blood and swearing in this game which I didn't mind but some may be a little offended. And as always the Soviets are outgunned, although this time they've brought Molotov cocktails. To mix things up there are a few parts of the Soviet Campaign requiring players to snipe. This helps to make the game interesting but doesn't have the anticipation feeling effect as the entire mission based on sniping in COD4.

Gamers also get a chance to play as the Americans in the Pacific. This is a fresh feel since its been a while that there's been...

One heck of a weekend?!

By kube00 11-16-2008 03:21 PM
Well I had Friday off, so I spent a good chunk of the day playing some WoW.
My friends rolled into town Friday night to see Jeff Dunham, we had dinner, and my wife got a call from a coworker saying she couldn't use her tickets so we got to see Jeff Dunham for free.

My thoughts on him, I know who he is, and some of his stuff was funny. The opening act Guitar Guy was good, and my least favorite of Dunham's puppets was Achmed the Dead Terrorist, was stupid and unfunny. But Peanut and the old guy walter made me laugh a few times. Overall I would have paid for the tickets at $45 a piece, but free was okay.

On Saturday we did some shopping and returned a few games to the mall where I saw at a GS LBP and Resistance 2 both used and I thought about getting them, 20% off +10% with edge, about $40 a piece, but I passed.

Saturday night we went to one of my wife's friend's houses from college, her husband was in the same fratenrity as me, so at least...

Yes its true. Gaming has always been a love of mine. I'm going to try to recommend 2 games a week or so

If I were to recommend 2 games you play before worms eat your corpse, and you get fired from your job. Also both can be found on Goozex for around 100 pts

Both on PC: (F-the console week!)

Deus EX-akin to System Shock with its more then a "dumb fps gameplay, shoot monster find key, repeat," this game was amazing. Something like 5 different endings, many different ways to get through levels (run and go or sneak and use the enemies technology against them) , complete customization of character through abilities that could be leveled furthur, all with a decent multiplayer and crazy story.

Baldur's Gate I and II
Drop that seemingly familar JRPG with its lame turn based slow ass combat and anime style. Go deep and grab this AD&D game within the Forgotten Realms Universe. Both games are long at least 40 hrs. So...
