Today we went and picked out her actual engagement ring.
I could tell from the moment she put it on her hand that it was the ring she truly wanted.
It was already sitting there in the correct size, her face lit up the instant it was on her finger.
I've never been more in love with her than at that moment.

I finally caught up to right before Death of the Family.
I just finished reading Batman and Robin.

I didn't think I'd like this book going into it but the backstory of Damian Wayne was one that I enjoyed because it's such stark contrast to that which I was expecting.

I hope they dive further into his relationship with his mother in the future and the 500 million bounty on his head.
His character development over the course of the 14 issues was also pretty good, going from someone who you didn't know if you could trust to someone sending his father on a jaunt across the country to get in touch with his past/his parents while he stayed at home to impersonate Batman and fight crime.

Overall I really find this quite enjoyable and will be picking up the hardcover trades to add to my collection and following it monthly now.

I'm going to pose the question to a few different groups of people and see what kind of responses that I get.
I've already asked on my Facebook. I'll see what kind of responses I get here and also on my blog.
Then I'll see what people say at work as well.

But, Marvel or DC?
Which one do you personally prefer and why do you make the choice?

I'm not sure that I can choose one over the other currently. I'll be putting my thought into it later.
Figure'd that I'd write up a post about my preference or at the very least what draws me to each side and share a bunch of results from asking around.

Curious to hear what everyone thinks.
THanks

Comic Book Crossovers

I'm not talking about big Events, just smaller crossovers.

I'm not talking about big Events, just smaller crossovers.

What does everyone else think of them?

Reading through Teen Titans right now in prep to read the entire Death of the Family saga from start to finish and it's just nagging on me a little bit.

In order to get the full story I've also got to follow along with Superboy as he plays a big role in both Superboy and Teen Titans.

I've also now had to throw in two issues of Legion Lost because if I didn't I'd be missing out on a crucial chunk of a storyline there.

I assume that the smaller mags like this in order to get the readership up or get people to try out another run somewhere, but it gets a bit annoying when it happens so often.

Wrote a little about that after touching a bit on the cast of Teen Titans.
http://www.grrouchie.com/2013/02/teen-titans.html

Danny The Street is an awesome concept.
Skitter is just kind of forgotten about?

I realize that I didn't talk much about the cast - I thought I did.
I'm doped up on Hydrocodne right now and just feelign a little loopy.

The Suicide Squad book picks up my love for Harley Quinn and doesn't let go.
From the moment I saw her in Batman Arkham Asylum I knew that this was my type of chick.
Everyone loves a good crazy now and then right?

The rest of the characters are not bad. The book is definitely a step above Red Hood and batwing.
There is a lot of deception, there is a lot of death (which doesn't appear in a lot of the comics that I read) and there is a good amount of humor as well.

King Shark is my second favorite character just because he is so simple, he's just hungry.
However, knowing whatever ocean he is in just by the taste is a pretty nifty gift.
Deadshot is ....well, just kind of generic. He's Ok but nothing great.
Yo-Yo could get interesting now that we just found out he is indestructible.
But, the whole story and the want to continue reading is all held together by the presence of Harley Quinn.

I just left off right before "Death of the Family" tie ins and after reading through her history of Joker issue I'm really excited to see where this goes.
If she leaves the book I might be done with it as well.
However, she keeps me going.
She is like the female version of Deadpool for me.
And sexy.

More details with pictures.

Red Hood and the Outlaws

Blazing through the 1st 14 issues of Red Hood and the Outlaws.
I kind of slacked off earlier in the month and now need to play catch up.

My goal is to be ready to tackle Death of the Family in March and for that to happen I really need to get myself up to date on the series that are involved in it.
Right now it's Red Hood.
After this it's Suicide Squad and then I believe Batman and Robin.
So - that's about 35 issues or so left if I haven't forgotten anything.

March has a secondary goal as well, every issue of the AvX saga including Tie-Ins.
I found a good torrent that has it all, it appears to be quite large.
March might pretty much be just about those two Events and almost nothing else, but a goal is a goal.

I'm enjoying Red Hood even though at first it was kind of blah.
As the Bats books go it's not one of my top picks - I wouldn't pick this up in an issue or trade format but I'm willing to continue following the story along once I'm up to speed on it.

My ranking thus far?
Detective Comics
Batman
Catwoman
Batgirl
Nightwing
Red Hood
Batwing

Catwoman and Batgirl and Nightwing are probably all interchangeable in some manner as is Red Hood and Batwing.
I loved Batwing's art and violence but there was just something lacking in it.

http://www.grrouchie.com/2013/02/red...d-outlaws.html

Not video game related.
Suffering from a minor case of can't f'n sleep

I've been reading a lot of comics lately, a lot.
Usually before bed I'll read a couple of issues.
Tonight I recall dreaming about Spiderman.
Nothing specific, no normal bad-guys - just comic book action sequences.
Wish I was one of those who could remember their dreams, but I'm not.

After laying in bed for 30-45 minutes I decided to just get up and be semi-productive.
Usually, for me, that means writing something.

I spent an hour cranking out a blog post talking mostly about Comic Books.

I think I'm close to having the entire set of Variants for Deadpool #1 (new Marvel Now run).
I still have to pick up Issue #4 and noticed that has a Variant as well.
Comic books are expensive.
Thank dog for Torrents.
I'm going to really have to figure out which comic books I feel are worth owning and paying for monthly and which ones I'm willing to torrent.
I do like giving back but I only have so much income to be able to do that with.

So, for anyone who wants to read the full ramble complete with pictures
http://www.grrouchie.com/2013/02/i-d...spiderman.html

Also - I think I've narrowed down 5 "must play/beat" games for me this year.
God of War Ascension
Gears of War Judgement
Borderlands 2
Fallout 3 (Need to finish off the DLC)
Skyrim

Action, 3rd person shooter, 1st person shooter and RPG - a little bit of everything and varying lengths. These are Franchise's that I know I love and that will help.
I want to add in Assassins Creed 2 to the list but that's up in the air currently.

It's 4:15 - I've been up since 2:15 or so.
My alarm goes off at 5:30

maybe I can take a nap?

It's funny,

When I'm not playing video games I just kind of forget this site exists and avoid it. I do the same thing with other types of fun I have in my life as well.

I've been wanting to play games for a while now but haven't gotten around to it. My desire has dropped off a lot.
The only gaming I have done lately is either Skylanders or some other random game with my girls 7 year old kid (are all kids bad at games at age 7 or just this one? Am I misremembering how good I think I was back then lol?).

But, outside of that I don't think I've gamed since maybe October when a buddy was in town visiting.

Does anyone else go through prolonged funks like this?
I'm hoping with the release of the new God of War that I get my passion back, I've always loved the GoW games and maybe a nice short violent romp through that universe will be able to spark me back up so that I put in a few hours per week.

I got a WiiU for Xmas and someone bought me ZombieU for VD - the WiiU sits in my closet, unopened.
Zombie U stares at me longingly.

The good news is that I haven't bought any games this year since I'm not playing, but I still have a backlog a mile long from previous.

Got my 24th Follower at my "blog" today.

Also decided to do a picture post for Ash Wednesday.

This is the 1st time in well over a decade that I decided to not call it Dirty Forehead Wednesday.

Weird living in Vegas compared to when I lived in PA.
In PA there would be half the employees walking around with ashes, and a large percent of the customer base would as well.

In Vegas I cannot recall seeing one single person partaking in the ritual.

Either way, if you want to check out my small pic post

Tonight I went out and played poker at the Mirage. I was supposed to be meeting a friend who was...

Tonight I went out and played poker at the Mirage. I was supposed to be meeting a friend who was coming in from the Boston area.
However, by the time I was ready to be seated he sent me a text telling me he was at Harrah's. Oh well, guess tonight isn't the night. Maybe tomorrow.

I ran like Dog for the 1st half of the Super Bowl and then I ran like Dog hated me during the 2nd half.
After the game was over I changed tables twice and ended up recovering a decent chunk of my money before heading home.

It's going on 1 am and I'd still rather be out playing poker, but I put in over 8 hours at the Mirage so I don't really have a need to stay out till 5 am only to come home horribly tired and have to try to function during the day. I suppose I will head out again tomorrow to try to meet up with my friend before he heads home (he leaves weds, but I work Tues/Weds and don't have the free time I would like).

I found out that The Mirage has quarterly free-rolls now - $250,000 worth. So, definitely something worth qualifying for.
To get into the tourney you only need to hit a min of 25 hours and after the Super Bowl i'm already 1/3rd of the way there.
if you hit 50 hours you get double chips.
If you hit 75 hours you get a re-entry.
If you hit 100 hours you get a re-entry with double chips.
So, Shooting for the 100 hours is definitely something I'll be doing provided I don't go broke quickly.

If I get 100 hours my strategy will be to play recklessly with my first entry trying to win a couple of huge pots and gain a chip advantage. if I bust it's not big deal because I'll have that re-entry with all of my chips back again and then I can play cautious and go from there.
I have until end of April to qualify and the tourney will be in May sometime.

I have been reading a lot lately since I got my Kindle Fire - I finished Dark Tower book 7, Hunger Games and Alice in Deadland.

I have not played any video games.

I'm going to try to sleep now. So I'll leave with the shameless plug for my blog.

Man, I had a horribly crappy morning.

Started last night when I couldn't sleep worth a crap.
In fact, it's been at least 10 days since I had a good nights rest, however last night was worse than the usual.
I know that I saw every hour and some of those hours I saw multiple times.

1:33 am I saw 3 times all by itself... I don't know if I drempt that I woke up at that exact time multiple times or if I really fell asleep and woke up multiple times within the same 60 second span, but whatever.

Then I get ready to go to work and I find that my car had been broken into.

FUUUUGGGHHHGGGGG.
To top it all off, they barely stole anything.
4 friggin items and not one of them was my stereo.

Whatever.

I vented about it at work - I wrote up a vent and put it on my blog as well.

http://grrouchie.blogspot.com/2012/01/great-fn-day.html

For anyone who wants to read the whole bloody thing.
Feel free to look around at some of the older, more recent posts too if you'd like.
I recently asked if $$$-Hag was considered offensive - and got some good replies actually.

Either way, thanks for reading my bitch and moan

I've had intentions of starting SW:TFU2 for the past week but just haven't really been in the right kind of mood to play anything - so here is to hoping that changes soon (like today).

Hope everyone else is having a better gaming year than I.

Hopefully I'll find a good 3DS game as well. Started Zelda right after Xmas but kind of bored with it.

There year is almost upon us and as such I have done my normal "what do I wanna do" for the new year thinking that everyone else has.

I've got two new posts on it - One that I took seriously (for the most part) and wrote out things that I want to do or continue to do in 2012.
In 2011 I actually started playing video games consistently again and it felt great. There were still a couple of months that I took off for various reasons but I beat 19 games this past year and I'm quite happy with that since I set a goal of 20.
Next year I'm hoping to be able to hit 24 games and will make a good effort to do so.

Other things I'd like to do more is read. December had me reading again - Finished 3 books and a "novella" and am now working through another Stephen King thousand page Opus. My goal is to do 18 books but secretly I want to achieve 24 as well.

Other things like Play poker more, become debt free, etc.

You can read the full blog here http://grrouchie.blogspot.com/2011/1...ions-2012.html

And then last night I randomly decided that I wanted to do the darkly humorous side to it all as well - and as one of my commenters said - this could be the fuel for one of my other serious resolutions "to write a short story."

Who knows - but It would be interesting to see someone who woke up one day with this set of goals for a year.

You can read about that here.

I hope everyone has an awesome New Years Eve!!!
I'm going down to the strip with a friend I have known for almost 20 years now for an evening of poker, gambling and debauchery.
Also going to be meeting up with another set of friends for some drinks and fireworks.

I'm really looking forward to a no stress evening out with friends just to say "Fuck you" to 2011 and "hello nurse" to 2012. I plan on 2012 being the best year that life has brought me yet and I hope all of you have that same plan.
