With the news of Street Fighter IV (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street_Fighter_IV) coming to...

With the news of Street Fighter IV coming to arcades and eventually to home consoles, I was reminded of my younger years in gaming. Like many others, I used to frequent my local arcade, always eager to check out the games that I thought would never be possible on a home console.

As I've gotten older, being able to get high-quality gaming at home is very convenient, but I do miss the atmosphere of the classic arcade. In my opinion, the camaraderie of the players made multiplayer arcade games (co-op or competitive) much more fun, and I feel that the current incarnation of multiplayer gaming isn’t the same for one reason or another. There was nothing better than beating a tough boss with some friends, or as intense as head-to-head competition in front of a crowd.

Some favorites that come to mind are of the 4-player variety like TMNT, X-Men, and The Simpsons, games that never end like Gauntlet and Rampage, and unique gaming experiences, like Title Fight.

Also, while I played many games, I did manage to complete a few favorites. While finishing a game at home isn't much of a feat these days, I always felt that beating a game at the arcade was a nice accomplishment. Some games that I managed to finish in the arcade include:

      Final Fight
I've always loved the side-scrolling beat'em ups, whether it was Final Fight - Medieval Times (Knights of the Round Table), or Phinal Phight Phakeout (Streets of Rage). Also, while I don't condone attacking people in wheelchairs, I made an exception for this guy especially since he had a harpoon gun!
Final Boss

      Double Dragon
I finished this game in 2 player mode. After beating the final boss, it dawned on us that we needed to fight each other to finish the game and decide who got to rescue the girl. This resulted in a "reverse-elbow attack" fest that I'm sure any Double Dragon fan is very familiar with. What's funny is that it felt like the game took forever to finish, but when I played the XBLA remake, I breezed through it in no-time.

Street Fighter II: The World Warrior
I don't remember many quarters it took, or how long I was standing in that arcade, but this is is definitely one of my proudest gaming moments. I finished this game with Zangief of all people, and I was rewarded with one of the best (and most bizarre) endings ever!
    Dance!

What were some of your favorite arcade games, and which ones did you actually finish?
