Okay, so the other day I was playing Pokemon Soul Silver and to my surprise, the Pokemon Center let me know that one of my Pokemon (Infernape) had caught Pokerus...I thought it was bad at first, but then realized it actually doubles your EV's and can be spread to other Pokemon in your party and kept going indefinitely if done right. Apparently you have to put it in the PC in the Pokecenters before midnight to keep it going, but I didn't know this and therefore I lost it :( My Infernape still gets the EV bonus, but since it didn't spread to any of my other party members, I can't get it back.

Do any of you guys have a Pokemon infected with PKRS (Pokerus) that you could trade me? I don't care what kind of Pokemon it is :) Please let me know. I'd really like to get it back since I screwed up =P Thanks guys!

Great news everyone! This week was a LOT better than the last and I will tell you why:

1) I recovered ALL of the money stolen from me on my Paypal Debit/Credit Card. It took a little work with police reports and lots and lots of phone calls, but in the end we were able to get all the money back. We canceled the old card, got a new one and changed the bank linking. Things are looking up in the financial department!

2) My TV with the broken audio? Turns out it really was a broken audio board. The technicians came by and upgraded the firmware without any luck, so they ordered a brand new audio board. After installing it this weekend, my TV sounds good as new again! I can play PS3, Xbox 360 and my PC all with crystal clear video and audio and still have the Component cables freed up for my Wii (and Punch Out!!). Gotta love it ^_^

3) My GamesForCanada.com business has really been picking up steam the last few months. I have new orders coming in nearly every day and while I don't make a lot of money on it ($2 per order generally, it does add up) and I'm very thankful to all my faithful customers (especially those on CAG).

4) My job as a Poker Dealer in the new casino is going fairly well. Most of the time I get sent home early, which sucks, but on a week-to-week basis I'm still making more money than I was working full time at my old casino. This means I have more time to spend with my wife (I see her almost 7-8 hours a day now whereas in the past 3 years I saw her maybe 2 tops) and I have a normal sleep schedule, eating schedule and free time. Who knows, I may even start to play games again!

5) With the new job and the fact that I often take home cash, I'm really being very good about paying off credit cards. I save all my cash tips up and when I hit a goal (say $500 or $1000), I deposit it in the bank and immediately pay off a credit card or make a big payment towards a bill. So far so good!

Isn't it nice to have a positive post from me for once? I didn't mean to be so negative the last few, but things were really tough. Looks like spring is bringing in some fresh air :)

No Audio on HDMI from Xbox / PS3? Doh!

Talk about a difficult week. As if it's not bad enough having nearly $900 stolen from me on my Paypal Debit Card (see previous blog entry), now it would seem as if my Sharp Aquos LC-46D64U HDTV has an audio problem. It was working for 11 months now without any problem. No dead pixels, sounded great and the picture was to die for. It was truly my dream HDTV...

Then yesterday, I was watching the new Narnia movie on Netflix using my Xbox 360 and suddenly there was no sound. I thought it was a problem with Netflix (or the movie) so I shut it off and didn't think twice. Then tonight I went back to watch another show and sure enough....no sound. That's weird. I guess I'll try to play my PS3. Again, no sound. The only common link is that both are hooked up through HDMI. Were my TV speakers dead?

I switched to the Wii (which I'm using Component cables) and it sounded perfect. What's going on? I googled a bit and found many people have had issues in the past with HDMI not carrying audio, but it seems completely random. One day it works, the next it doesn't. I still have the original warranty on the TV, as well as an extended warranty (5 years) from Circuit City, though I'm not sure how that'll work since that company is gone with the wind.

Anyone else experience random HDMI audio outages before? I'd love to hear your input! I've tried several HDMI cables and they all show just video, no sound. Majorly bummed :( I realize I can get external surround sound speakers and audio receivers but that costs a lot of money (which I don't have). Let me know what you think guys, thanks!

Man, yesterday was an insane day for me. The first day for my new job with all my new responsibilities, 5 hours of sleep, my last day at my old job, and to make things just a little more difficult: Someone got ahold of my Paypal Debit Card numbers and charged almost $900 worth of stuff within an hour or two!

This is the first time I've ever had a credit card of mine actually stolen. To make things worse, there were MULTIPLE charges from several stores. Here's what was charged:

Wal-Mart.com : $212.99
Sears.com: $314.99+ (Pending)
HostMonster.com: $214.20
TBE Collectibles Today: $110+

YIKES! Has this ever happened to you guys? Paypal told me to contact the merchants directly and dispute them, and I did, but some of them couldn't find the records in their systems yet. Wal-Mart required me to file a police report and fax it to them (I did already) and others apparently have the funds on hold (for up to 30 days according to a Paypal Rep). What a mess :( I hate that people can just steal your identity and your money in an instant and then it takes you a LONG time in some cases to get it back. It always seems the systems are on the side of criminals, doesn't it? I sure hope this gets resolved and that the culprits are caught.

PS: I still have the physical card so it wasn't like someone just snatched my wallet. I have no idea how they got my numbers, but it's a scary thing. I have since cancelled the physical card and will be getting a new one shortly.

Considering to Go Back to College....Online?

It's been a long time since I've taken classes in college, and the truth is I've always wanted to graduate. The problem is that after going over to China in 2001, coming back to the US and marrying in 2003, it's been nothing but an uphill battle for me. Mounting credit card debt, school loans from my first year and a half of classes, a change in majors and all sorts of things have kept me back. Now here I am nearly 9 years after graduating from high school and the truth is I really want to graduate and get a degree so I don't have to be stuck working 70-80 hours a week between two jobs that just get the bills paid.

Now I'm honestly considering online classes. I've always considered getting a degree in accounting and working towards a CPA career, but again without a degree that's just not going to happen. I have one year under my belt in general class studies (started as an art major) and then started very, very basic business classes at another school. If I were to continue at a local University chances are I could graduate in 3 years, but with my two jobs and all my family obligations it's just not going to happen.

Online courses are increasingly more available and it's seeming like a real viable option. It's not actually much cheaper, but it'd allow me to study on my own time with my weird work hours and actually get things done. I'm debating between the University of Phoenix or Devry which both have fairly robust accounting programs.

Anyone ever take classes online or get a degree through an online course? Please let me know. I'm really, really curious. Thanks! :bouncy:

Capcom Unity Card - Part II: Things are Looking Up ^_^

Image: http://www.improcomics.org/trade/capcom-unity-card-part-2.jpg

I don't take back...

I don't take back everything I said about the CAPCOM Unity Card, but I do take back MOST of what I said. Why the big change of heart? Well, I'll tell you why :)

Today at 1:05 PM on the way back from picking my wife up from work on her lunch break, my phone rang. The number was showing an odd (630) area code and I figured it was probably either a wrong number, a scam artist, a random Gamestop reminder about some pre-order I forgot I placed, or a genuine call. Out of curiousity, I answered. It turns out that it was a representative from West Suburban Bank (the people who run the CAPCOM Unity Card) and I could only imagine where this was going.

Rather than getting chewed out for my highly negative post here on CAG yesterday, I got a very welcomed apology. The representative (named Doug for the record) was very apologetic for the way the card company had treated me and let me know that this is not normal for them. The CAPCOM Unity Card is a service that is meant to be a "fan service" not a "fee service" as he put it. It's a way to reward fans for their loyalty as well as allow them to reasonably control their spending and monitor their buying in a fashion that rewards them.

He also pointed out that my blog post actually pointed them in the direction of finding a few problems with their program. Certain fees in the program were not authorized and a few things they did (including charging me to activate the card over the phone) were not legit. Doug told me that he would reverse the fees (and he did, immediately) and wanted me to know that this is a brand new program and there are still some kinks being worked on in the meantime. He thanked me for posting the blog post (he actually mentioned my blog post by name and said they were monitoring these types of sites all the time for feedback) and asked if I had any further questions.

I asked him a number of things and the one thing I learned that is really useful is that you can add money via Direct Deposit from your workplace for no fee. You will earn points for every dollar deposited as well as points for the actual direct-deposit action as well. All the funds are FDIC insured and the points will be available on the site once they clear.

I feel a LOT better now about the program and am going to consider keeping my account with them now to see how things go. Now that I have nearly all my credit back, I will try to use it a bit and give you guys an update within the next couple of weeks.

For now, all I can say is Thank you to Doug and the team over at West Suburban Bank for monitoring these sites. I think it's incredible that my little post garnered so much interest over there and that you were able to actually link me to my account without me actually posting my name or numbers or anything (a bit creepy lol, but still very impressive). Thank you ever so much.

Why the Capcom Unity Card SUCKS! A Warning to All CAGs!

Image: http://www.improcomics.org/trade/capcom-unity-card.jpg

I have to admit, I've always...

I have to admit, I've always been jealous of Japanese Credit Cards having game characters on them. Every now and then on Kotaku or other gaming blogs you'd see cool game themed credit/debit cards and wonder "Why don't we get those in the US?". Then comes along the Capcom Unity Debit Card which features character designs from Street Fighter IV, Bionic Commando, Resident Evil 5 and others and I think "WOW! It's about time!".

The idea is that you put money on the card (it's a debit card, not a credit card) and I thought it'd be a great way to try and monitor/control my spending as I'm moving away quickly from regular credit cards. Sure, they charge you $10 to activate it, which sucks, but it could be worse...right? Ooooooohhhh yes it sure could.

What they don't tell you right away is how many fees there are for this card (it's downright ridiculous!). In my first week of owning the card and trying to buy something on Amazon here are the fees I accrued (warning: not for the faint of heart):

03/13/2009 Fee - POS Decline US $-0.50
03/13/2009 Visa settle - AMZ*Amazon Payments AMZN.COM/BILLUS $-7.72
03/13/2009 Fee - POS Decline US $-0.50
03/13/2009 Fee - POS Decline US $-0.50
03/04/2009 Fee - Activation fee $-9.95
03/03/2009 Credit Card $50.00
OUCH!

Okay and now to explain what the heck was going on here. I originally started with putting $50 on the card. I received the card in about a week as explained (I got the Ryu SFIV card design by the way). I wanted to try it out and use it in a supermarket but the card wouldn't activate. It said "Please enter all 16 numbers on the front of your card". I did so and it repeated "That number is not valid, please try again". After nearly 15 tries, I decided to ask customer service what was going on. They said their automated system was down and they'd be happy to help me on the phone to activate it. What they Didn't tell me is that they charged me $6.00 and $4.00 respectively (not sure why twice!) to do it on the phone. How crappy is your company that you have to charge your users to activate your card when your automated system is down? Seriously?

Then to add insult to injury, the card didn't work when I brought it out. I was told the card was declined at the supermarket, the gas station and then later on Amazon.com. If you look at my fees you'll notice I was charged a handful of fees from them not accepting the card and a whopping $7.72 for "Visa Settle" with Amazon.com whatever that means. Man oh man is this card a rip off. To make things worse they charge you the following as well:

So in summary, in order to have a cool Capcom-themed Debit Card (that supposedly gets you discounts on their online store and such) you will have to: Pay to activate the card, pay to call customer service when their service isn't working properly, pay to use the card, pay to not use the card, pay to add money to the card, withdraw money from the card, transfer money to another card, pay money to your bills, pay when the card isn't working when it should be, pay if you decide to use your pin-code, pay to get a paper statement and many more.

CAGs, as tempting as it may be, stay far, far, far away from these cards. I'm about ready to suck it up and pay the $10 to cancel it and I've only had it a week. Capcom, I think you really have sunk to a new low. This is far worse than charging for DLC or multiplayer in Resident Evil 5.
Hey guys, for those of you not following the recent Atlus teases/Emails/marketing pushes. It would appear to most that Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha versus King Abaddon is coming to the US. The first run will also include the free Raiho Plushie ^_^

Gamefly also has a link (so feel free to add it to your Q):

http://www.gamefly.com/products/detail.asp?pid=135590
This was originally teased by Atlus with the following image:

which many SMT fans guessed right away. Here is another shot of the plushie:
Make sure to order the game as soon as pre-orders are up so you get your plushie. Atlus is saying it's going to be a limited-run item/game.

This is exciting times for SMT fans ^_^ Enjoy!
If you're like me, then you like downloadable games. 2008 had a ton of them and "World of Goo" was one of the best. Now you can get the entire soundtrack directly from the game's makers for FREE.

Yes my CAG brothers (and sisters). You can have this excellent soundtrack for free! Go get it. The link is here (Please note this is completely legal and legit as it's from the game's developers).

Direct Downloads (Use these since the page goes up and down):

GamesForCanada.com - Step By Step (With Photos!)

As promised, I am going to do a VERY visual step-by-step guide to ordering from GamesForCanada.com....

As promised, I am going to do a VERY visual step-by-step guide to ordering from GamesForCanada.com. Since my last post was very wordy, I will let the pictures do most of the talking ^_^

1) The Online Store on GFC:

(Order directly from items that are currently in stock. New version of the website will also feature a text-only view of all items in stock, as well as qty. for items). The direct link is here:
http://www.gamesforcanada.com/index.php

2) Direct Request Form:

The life-blood of my services: The "Direct Request" page. You can request almost any item from anywhere (including auction sites like eBay.com!). The full page is located here:
http://www.gamesforcanada.com/direct-request.php

3) Quickbooks Business Software:

After your order is received, I will input all of your information into Quickbooks. This will allow me to send you customized invoices!

4) Custom GFC Invoices:

Your invoice will contain line-by-line information about ALL the charges and a breakdown of all the costs including shipping and service charges. Leaves nothing to the imagination :)

5) Shipping Process:

Once all of your items are in, I will lay them out and make sure that everything is accounted for. I may or may not take pretty pictures of the order as seen above :)

I use top of the line shipping materials (colored bubble wraps, Scotch Packaging tape - the best in the world, cardboard boxes, the works. I want your items to reach you in pristine condition and hopefully my attention to detail will show when you get it!

Again, note all the wrapped items. I will never just throw your items into a box and call it a day. I spend a lot of time on each and every order!

Once the box is fully packed and secured, I generally write a thank you note to give your order a little more of a personal touch :)

I use a professional shipping scale that can weigh up to 75 pounds! It is good for heavy items, but also can do items weights down to 1/10 of an ounce. Not bad ^_^ This ensures you do not overpay for your shipping!

I use professional shipping services from Endicia that allow me to print Shipping Labels, Customs Forms and all in one. Upon shipping, you will receive an Email confirmation that will let you know the date shipped as well as your customs numbers. Couldn't be simpler!

And that's it! I will hand-deliver your items the next day to my local post office (where trust me, they know me QUITE well now haha) and you should have your item within 7-10 days (for Canada) or perhaps faster if using Priority Mail or if you luck out :) I hope you guys will consider using my services now that you have seen all the work that goes into them. It's a labor of love, but I really do want to help you guys and it's a WIN/WIN situation for all of us. Thanks and happy GFC'ing!

GamesForCanada.com - How My Service Works...

Image: http://www.gamesforcanada.com/images/gfc-header.jpg

For those of you who don't know,...

For those of you who don't know, April 2008 was the starting point of a new service called "Games For Canada" that I started as a make-shift store. The idea of it is to help Canadians (or any other country) reach hard-to-find items available in the US as well as US-only deals that are not available in other locations. I started the site as a mere idea on the CAG Canada forums and 7 months later we have 1789 replies / 64054 views for our post....not bad if you ask me!

While the service has been an overwhelming success, the actual site for GamesForCanada.com has never been truly realized to its full potential. I'm in the process of hand-coding the entire site myself right now, but it won't actually launch in full until late February. Beta-Testers will have access starting in early February to help me test things out as well. Anyhow, onto the main point of this.

------------
Many Canadians ask me "How exactly does this work". So here I am going to include a detailed overview of the service. In a separate post I will show you (with photos) how a typical order goes:

1) A customer may reach me at one of many places:

* My website: http://www.gamesforcanada.com (again the full site is not launching until late February 2009, but at the moment the store does work and the Direct Request form for items not listed IS working. It just looks really generic ^_^;;)

* Our CAG forum thread located here: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/...d.php?t=179597

* Direct Email: GamesForCanada@improcomics.org (use only for GFC use please).

2) Our services are NOT LIMITED ONLY TO VIDEO GAMES! We have ordered everything from headphones and computer parts all the way to breath mints, chewing gum and breakfast cereals (no lie). Virtually anything that can be ordered online can be ordered through our services. As long as it's available in the US (preferably online as that's easiest) and legal to ship internationally, it can be purchased through my services!

3) After you contact me and let me know of the items you want, I will need from you the following information: Your Full Name, Mailing Address, Email address and Telephone number. Giving me this information allows me to add you to my Quickbooks Business software as a customer. After you are a customer I can send you official estimates and invoices (all of which have detailed line-by-line descriptions of your order.

4) You will receive an Email from me with a PDF attachment that has all the details of your order, a final price to pay and payment instructions on how to pay me. I currently accept: Paypal, Credit Cards & Postal Money Orders (in US Dollars only).

5) After you pay for your items in full, I will order them for you, have them shipped to my house and will mail them out to you as soon as they come in. Typical mail time to Canada is about 7-10 days for First Class mail and about 5-7 for Priority Mail. Sometimes it depends on customs, but these are the averages for most items. If you want it shipped faster, I can do so but note that shipping faster than Priority is Expensive. We have done one Overnight delivery to Canada and I'm happy to say it was a success :)

6) The Keys to my service are the following:

** We charge only the prices of the actual items you order. If you find a website like Amazon.com selling a $60 game for $20, you will pay the $20 plus shipping/fees. We do not jack up the price of Direct Request orders simply for the sake of making extra profit. Just don't do it :)

** We charge you actual shipping and handling costs. Rather than have flat fees for our orders shipping costs, we go by the actual weight of the items. Unlike other sites, our shipping is surprisingly reasonable and it's a LOT cheaper than the average stores/auction sites will charge you. Larger items may include small fees for boxes/tape/delivery and such, but again our prices are infinitely more fair than the average site will charge to Canada (or other countries).

** For our service fee we charge only $2.00 USD for the first item, $1.00 USD for each additional within the same package/order. This is to keep things fair as I have to pay for bandwidth, time spent ordering, repacking, shipping, etc. and at the end of it I make a small amount of profit. Not much, but it adds up and it's a fun hobby so I'm not complaining :) For Europe and countries other than Canada it is $3.00 USD for the first item and $1.00 USD for each additional item.

------------
Again, this is a rather lengthy article, but it's important and I will point to it in the meantime as I put the actual website together. When the final site is up I hope to have YouTube videos and such to explain the process more visually but in the meantime, this is the wordy text version. The next post will feature photos of how I pack an item for GFC services to give you an idea how much work goes into one of these :) Thanks guys!

PS: I realize most American CAGs don't have any interest in this service, so please don't flame me. Canadian CAGs as well as many other countries write to me several times a day asking about my services so please bear with me and cut me some slack. Thanks! ^_^

Hey guys. This is probably an unusual request, but coming from me that shouldn't be too much of a surprise. I am desperately trying to reach Silver Rewards Status at Best Buy by the end of the year (you have to spend $2500 in a single Calendar Year to qualify). In order to do this, I only have about $900 to go. The thing is, I already have more than enough games for myself so I am looking for purchases that:

1) Are relatively good deals
2) Can be bought and resold if necessary for nearly what I bought them for to minimize loss on my investment.
3) Are not overly heavy or large in size (no HDTVs for example).

My idea is that if I can buy about $900 worth of stuff to resell on eBay/CAG/elsewhere even at a small loss, it'll be worth it considering what it will save me in the near year. If I can qualify for free shipping, 45 day return policy windows and such, it'll be worth it. So please let me know...what should I buy in the next week to qualify? Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks guys and Merry Christmas!
