It worked for me when i used the ps3 backup tool i was able to restore everything (games, gameshare accounts login info still saved, game data, save files as long as they were copy protected. dont know about phantoms i only get resells). This probably worked for me because i read that i you transfer to a new system that isn't the same model you will lose your info but as long as its the same ps3 or at least the same model ps3 you should be fine.
