I think that's a good way to look at it. Raise awareness for people who might not know about the apps and/or reward those who are. Whenever I see complaints like the one you addressed and others I shake my head at people's sense of entitlement. Microsoft isn't forcing them to partake in the event. It's up to people to decide if it's worth their time and/or effort. It all comes off as extremely whiny to me, but that's the internet for you. Personally, I saw this as an opportunity to check out the latest version of the app since I haven't used it in awhile and catch up on some Michigan football games. Win-win.
As for the RB sale, I haven't checked it out yet, but Harmonix did say the pricing was rolling out in phases due to the quantity. I'll probably wait a day or two to make sure everything is discounted and play Borderlands 2 in the meantime. Hopefully the season pass will go on sale late next year so I don't have to wait forever to play all the DLC that'll be out by June.
