I honestly hadn't seen a mecha show where every action needed approval until Gaogaigar. (That button seriously gets broken, and I guess replaced, every time he transforms).

Thoughts on "An Old-School RPG by Brenda Brathwaite and Tom Hall!" Kickstarter? http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...te-and-tom-hal

John Romero is in there too, but you can hardly tell from the Kickstarter page.

People using terms like old-school or classic RPGs to induce nostagia so people will give them money is getting a little worn.
Old 10-03-2012, 07:51 PM   #864
Seriously, they say "old-school" 15 times, and that's not counting the times they use it as the title of the game.
Old 10-03-2012, 07:56 PM   #865
They don't really give alot of details about their plans, other then generic stuff that's in every RPG like "Solve lots of quests" and "Recruit NPCs"...

Don't forget that it's an old-school way of solving lots of quest and recruiting NPCs.
Old 10-03-2012, 09:05 PM   #867
Saw that earlier. Super light on the details. They throw the name Anachronox around a bit, so I'll at least keep an eye on it.

FF8 gets so much worse as soon as you put in the 2nd disc. Desert Prison -> Missile Base, ughhh
Old 10-04-2012, 02:45 PM   #869
BTW, Atlus announced Etrian Odyssey 4 for early 2013.
Old 10-04-2012, 02:47 PM   #870
I barely remember anything from FF8 after the first disk. There was a space bit and you meet Laguna and you get a severely nerfed Edea - that was her name, right? - for a tiny bit and... other than that, I got nothin'.

EDIT: Oh, and wasn't there some pick-the-instrument minigame shit?

Yeah you fly a rocket ship to space and are promptly reminded by a random NPC that "monsters invade from the moon every year, you didn't know?" I have always dropped the game at that point because of how offensive the plot was getting, but I'm going to actually see where it ends up this time.

Also I feel like I'm finally using the Junction system properly, or in other words, abusing the shit out of it. So my characters actually have high stats and I don't have to sit through 20 second summon animations every battle in order to win.

How to use the junction system: never cast magic.

But seriously, what the was that instrument-picking thing about? Like, could you win at it? Could you lose at it? Was it purely flavour?

T-Rexaur man, there is a T-Rexaur on the first disc

I think it just determines how good or terrible the music ends up sounding...

They're in the training area in Balamb Garden too. That whole first section of the game has no shortage of T-Rexaur action.

Yessssss. Atlus <3

I recently played FF8 and it wasn't bad. Most of the game really wasn't memorable, but it was still enjoyable IMO. The story wasn't bad... I guess.

Oh, and eff Squall. Gosh, him and his emo self made the game unbearable at points. "I just want to be alone, man, so, like... leave me alone. No one will ever understand me and my deep thoughts."

I started playing Shining Force 3 yesterday. Why the hell haven't there been any more Shining Force games? I know Japan got one for the DS, but uhh....

Edit: That orphanage thing was freakin' dumb. PLOT.

That was like the defining characteristic of Final Fantasy VIII for me... All the things in the plot that were treated as big revelations were things that people who lived on that world would probably just know about. You and your friends have been reliving flashbacks from the life of a mystery man... who turns out to be the FF8 world's equivalent of the President of the United States... and no one recognized him?

To be fair, didn't Esthar have the whole "veil of secrecy" thing going on? Remember that they hid the entrance to their country behind a huge hologram.

The music mini-game mixed two songs. That love theme, and a second. If you mix them, it sounds like shit.

Junction system was fun to abuse.

Of course FF8 Card Game was super entertaining.
