I believe B1G1 50% off is the following week after this sale. If the B2G1 free sale were to happen this month, it would be the last week of October. I just know that B1G1 50% off is happening this month, I thought it was going to be this coming week, must've heard wrong.

I wonder if the holiday bundles will be like $150 on black Friday, that would be sweet.

we're in the countdown to black friday(about 6 weeks) so true "deals" overall will be slim. The only thing I'd expect really would be a b2g1 from someplace & the usual $40 sale prices. Plus for BB most of the top tier titles already have the best deal to them.

If you're going to compare apples to apples, as you put it, you need to look at more than just the value of the promo received ($120 when doing 2 B2G1 for 6 games versus $150 when buying 6 games with this deal). If you buy 6 games in the B2G1, your cost, assuming you are buying 4 $60 games, is $240 or $40 per game.

With this deal, in order to get your $150 promo, you need to purchase 6 $60 games, i.e. $360 (i.e. you get $510 worth of goods for $360 spent, a savings of just about 29.5% off versus 33.3333% off for B2G1).

Of course, if you chain the giftcards (unfortunately you have to account for the 6 hour activation delay), you can beat the B2G1 savings as you work towards approaching the maximum possible discount of $25 per game (versus the obvious $20 savings per game for the B2G1). It would take chaining this deal 4 times (5 separate purchases of 2 games = $120 initial purchase + $70 + $70 + $70 + $70 = $400) just to match the discount of B2G1. On the 6th transaction of chaining this deal, you would beat the savings per game on B2G1...by about 83 cents per game

Mine was either 90 days or through December, can't remember which (got it in October). I want to say it was 90 days. However, if these are promotional cards or w/e you call them then it's possible it may be less. To me, it looks like a ploy to get you to do some of your Xmas shopping there so I wouldn't be surprised in the least to find out that they expired December 31st. IIRC December is when they make around 90-95% of their profits (with October being their only other big month, Halloween costumes I guess), and they are hurting pretty bad now, so it makes sense for them to put an expiration date on these cards to get you to do your XMas shopping there.

And I saw somebody else in this thread say that you could just use your gift card to buy a new gift card/certificate, why would you think they'd allow that?

Promotional Gift Cards expire. Standard Gift cards do not.. because.. you know.. their are laws against that.

That doesn't make any sense. Presumably you paid full price for Dishonored and Borderlands 2. You wouldn't buy them next week if you didn't already have them and take the free $50 gift card?

Heck, what you should do is buy them next week then return the unopened copies to the place where you bought the origianls for refunds. Then you still get the free $50 gift card.

This is almost as good as a B2G1 if you ask me...I'd rather have a $50 gift card, so I'm not forced to pick a third game for the deal. Maybe I only want two, and then I have most of another game I want paid for upon release.

Makes me wish I had waited on Dishonored and XCOM...could have had an extra $15 in promotional gift stuffs with TRU's deal.

lol wut.

You miscalculated the 29.5% savings. You're not paying $510. My post was simpler in that your value per game is $25 versus $20. Put it this way, the receipt will ring up the eligible games as:
B2GC promo
$35 return value (42% savings off MSRP)

B2G1 promo
$40 return value (34% savings off MSRP)

The chaining is irrelevant Karkyco. It only has cash flow considerations which my argument was from purely a value perspective. The minute you've paid for 2 games, you've automatically maxed out on the deal. You're not stuck having to find a 3rd game.

Whats confusing you is the 3rd game since these promos are disimiliar. Nice try though

Ah yes, you're right. So it would take 2 of these transactions to beat B2G1.

The limitation of this deal to full price $59.99 X360 and PS3 games is the real killer, for me at least. Even as you approach the max savings of $25 off per game, how many games are there worth buying?

Not sure if anybody else here has a Capital One credit card but they've got a feature deal ending 10/17. You get $10 credit on any purchase you make at TRU.

This modelling is inaccurate. To compare B2GC and B2G1, you have level them so that you have purchased the same amount of games, and other factors. If you calculate the average cost of buying 2 games with B2GC, and the average cost of B2G1, B2GC would have the advantage not considering the GC scaling factor.

A simple counterexample. I wanted to buy 3 $59.99 games right now, and these games do not have any discounts anywhere. For B2G1 I would pay $119.98 + tax on $119.98, for B2GC I would pay $129.97 + tax on $179.97, assuming I use the $50 GC to purchase the third game.

To compare those two, you need a assumption on the number of games in need, and assumptions comparing purchase options elsewhere. In summary, you cannot compare those two promos, mathematically, without knowing the data input, i.e. the games that you need to buy at TRU.
