Yup. No way the series isn't a 4-0 sweep. Absolutely no way. This Yankee lineup has no heart and hasn't had any in years. Girardi would be better served putting himself in the lineup at this point.

THIS is why you don't swing for the 3 run homer all the time. You get runs when you can, and you outlast your opponent. I can't imagine that Girardi isn't constantly preaching this to them. The only explanation is that they're way too full of themselves (A-Rod, Swisher, Cano, Granderson) to listen. Just the thought that that 12th inning could have been completely avoided makes my stomach turn.
See St. Louis Cardinals.

Not that the Yankee bats have any business complaining about bad calls giving the Tigers more runs, but this...

was called "safe". The ump openly admitted after the game that he blew the call. How sweet of him.

And that's after this one from Game 1 was called "out"...which happened with the bases loaded and 2 outs.

When it rains, it ing pours...

Cards get the win but I'm worried they're going to blow the bullpen out. I don't want it to go more than 6 b/c if it goes 7 then it's Lohse in game 7.

I was gonna post about the bad calls, but considering the way the Yankees have played, I didn't even feel it was worth it. I also think Ibanez was safe in the 1st inning of Game 1, but that was a real bang-bang play, so it's hard to complain. The two you posted, thought, were pretty bad.

I didn't get to see the last game against Washington, but wasn't Loshe the pitcher that gave up 6 runs in the first 3 innings?

Baseball should have replay challenges. Limited, but they should be there. But that call was no matter last night since Detroit shut them out. Plus I hate the Yankees. LOL.

Well, the call still mattered, because it helped them get 2 runs. The approach the hitters and pitchers take would change a lot. Not saying the Yankees would've actually scored (probably not), but it did make the last couple of innings play out differently.

No that was Wainwright. Lohse has been fairly lights out in postseason this year: pitched against ATL & Game 4 against Washington.

Would love to see the Giants in the World Series again.

Sucks that the A's couldn't make it this year after the run they had, but at least one Northern CA team has a chance this year.

Ya know, I really love Joe Girardi. He's managing out of desperation, but it's really better than just sitting there all "ho hum" and just going with the status quo. A-Rod and Swisher haven't done shit. They should be benched. And he even took my advice and held off CC, knowing that a loss to Verlander is likely...and it would be DEVASTATING to lose to him in a game that CC pitched in.

But with CC going in game 4, that's about as comfortable as you can be down 3-0. If they can somehow win that game (which is a crazy thought considering they'd have to score runs), then you've got Pettitte again in Game 5 (who pitched well in Game 1...just got ZERO help). If you can win that game, by that point, your bats should be coming around. It's probably a 1,000 to 1 longshot, but I can see the method to the madness. And when the left side of your infield is now Eric Chavez and Eduardo Nunez, what the hell are you supposed to do? lol

EDIT - Annnnd...just like that, Eduardo Nunez is outperforming A-Rod in the playoffs, haha. Wow.

How pathetic that Nunez of all people had to bail the team out from laying another goose egg. And even then Verlander could have played a little with his pitches since he was ahead of the count, that home run might not have happened. At this rate CC should be be the DH, all this money going around to all these players and they keep relying on Ibanez to win them games wtf.

Time for the Yankees to buy some new players it seems and send the old ones off to the farm.

I agree with this, Detroit fans such as myself still aren't home free quite yet.

Had the offense showed any signs of life last night I would buy it, but this series will be over in 5.

Let's hope so! (I would also accept four.)
Old 10-17-2012, 01:40 PM   #840
Well, for Girardi, I think it's just the idea of trying to buy some time and HOPING that the bats just wake up somehow. It's incredibly daunting that CC has to basically win the game single handedly though (like others said, might as well let him hit too).

I just hope no "Fire Joe Girardi!" nonsense pops up after tha Yankees are eliminated. Sure, every move he's made hasn't been perfect. But he's dealing with half a lineup that basically refuses to play the game the right way. He can yell at them until he's blue in the face, but he can't make them have good at bats.

They can fire Kevin Long if they want...but I don't see the point in that either. These are professional hitters. They've been doing it all season. They know what they need to do. They didn't just forget how to play all of a sudden. They're trying to do too much. They need a therapist more than they need a hitting coach.
