It just oozes out of the GOP fringe these days.

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics...-god-intended/
Quote:
Indiana Republican Senate candidate Richard Mourdock said pregnancies resulting from rape are part of God’s plan, tearfully explaining that he only supports abortions when a mother’s life is in danger.

“I think even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen,” Mourdock said during Tuesday’s Senate debate, choking up. Mourdock’s opponent, Democratic Rep. Joe Donnelly, opposes abortion except in cases of rape and incest.

After the debate, Mourdock further explained his comment.

“Are you trying to suggest somehow that God preordained rape, no I don’t think that,” said Mourdock, according to The Associated Press. “Anyone who would suggest that is just sick and twisted. No, that’s not even close to what I said.”

So in Mourdock's mind God didn't set up the rape, but knew it was going to happen anyway and figured, "Why not make it a pregnancy?"

If a pregnancy resulting from rape is "God's plan", why isn't a pregnancy that endangers the mother's life?

Right-o. "God's plan" is a wildly inconsistently used concept by the right, as it refers to convenient scenarios. Nevermind that, if you believe in "God's plan," the entire concept of medical care is liberal unnecessary liberal interventionism.

More people on the right ought to be like this guy: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009...ter-pray-death

(I'm not saying more *should*, but if more really believed the horseshit that they said, this would be a far more common occurrence.)

I get the feeling he didn't quite think through what that means.

So that means the rape was pre-ordained by god?
Mourdock: Ummm......I....no...I......oh shit....

Thus definitively proving that teaparty Republicans are nothing but pure concentrated evil.

I'm not the anti-faith crusader that some folks on here are, but the entire "Everything that happens is God's Plan" people annoy the heck outta me.

I try to have fun with it though. If everything that happens is part of God's Plan, then Bin Laden was correct when he said that his actions leading up to 9/11 were God's will.

Then I get something about "free will", etc., etc...

That is so sad. We have a tendency to downplay the effects of ignorance, but it's good to be reminded that the consequences are serious and even sometimes lethal.

Yeah It's pretty obvious that when people say they aren't thinking about what it really means. Basically that if everything that's ever happened was god's will, god is a real asshole to it's people.

Well to be fair the Christian god has had his temper tantrums in the bible.

Oh I know, and that's why I say that. Assuming everything in human history was god's will, god is a real (ok not real but you know...) asshole.

I'm surprised, for once there aren't tons of conservatives on Yahoo trying to defend their own.

Sad that the lunacy has to get this low, this extremist, this whacked-out before the right starts backpedaling. It's not that hard to see it's evil, when even UB can see that the right is wrong you know that the right has hit a new low.
