Thanks Warreni. I'm not the type of person that's bothered by nudity, but I have two kids at home so that usually dictates this kind of stuff. Thanks for the heads up.

The way everyone's talking about collecting these cards and the creepyness factor that goes along with it makes me remember collecting "Stud Cards" for the Weird Old Ventriloquist (with puppet) in Shadow Hearts II for the Playstation 2. He was obviously gay, but I actually made an effort to look for those cards. He seemed such a lonely old guy with a just a puppet to keep him company.......Yeah, that's it, I was collecting them for him, that's why I was so obsessed with finding them....for him.

I'd say it's a fair bit more graphic than Mass Effect, especially ME2 & 3. Especially the bathhouse scene...don't do that part with family looking over your shoulder. But like everything else it's pretty faithful to the books in that regard. Speaking of which...

Whether you just picked up the Witcher games in this sale or are a long-time fan, I really recommend reading the books! Books 1 & 3 have been officially released in English, and the rest have been fully translated by some awesome guys on the Witcher forums: http://en.thewitcher.com/forum/index...-translations/ The quality ranges from near-professional to fairly iffy but it is a fan project, and it could be years before these books are officially translated, if ever. With the sequel hook set up at the end of The Witcher 2 I'd say reading the books is absolutely essential. Not to mention, it's amazing how many seemingly-throwaway characters in the games are actually fully fleshed-out in the books. Go read 'em.

Would you recommend I read the books prior to playing the game? Perhaps this might encourage me to actually play them as opposed to letting them rot in the backlog

The books are pretty disconnected, and the game's plot hinges on Geralt's amnesia, so I wouldn't bother with them yet. Read them afterword if you're a fan of the universe.

Pretty much the whole of it. Steam does a good job of putting what's on sale front and center by going to their front page, so updating the OP makes a lot less sense than in threads for B&M deals or sites that aren't just games digital distributors. The thread, I find, is a great place to point out games that aren't top/featured deals and then get feedback or have a discussion on them.

Well, except for the time when he is in his tent at the siege camp with Triss at the very beginning of the game, every encounter thereafter is optional. My memory may be a bit fuzzy about the details (I played TW2 shortly after it came out) but I don't think there are any other mandatory "adult encounters" in the game.

I think what bothered people about the first game was that it seemed a bit like a metagame of the sort that you're describing for this PS2 game--the idea was that Geralt was supposed to seek out as many chicks as he could get in the sack because the player is rewarded with this titillating card and because the character is sterile and immune to disease. It just came across as a bit sleazy.

^I actually agree with this. Even better if you go back and play the games again after reading, you'll pick up on so many things, major and minor, that you didn't notice the first time. Besides, we are talking about 2 short story collections (if you do read, don't skip these) and five novels, that's a lot to try and get into if you're not already invested.

However, FTL has been a pleasant surprise for me and one of my favourite games of 2012. It has plenty of replayability and scratches that pleasepleasepleasedontdieonme itch. It's also very unforgiving as you can lose an hour's work in just one jump; it's that constant threat of death that really drew me in. As RockPaperShotgun pointed out, some games are at their best when it all goes hopelessly wrong.
Thanks for the heads up! As for HMH, I actually beat all of it on PSP and especially loved the last bonus mode (Hero 3 mode I think), and I wanted to see how different he PC/XBOX version was since those came out later. You're right though, it's an overall shallow experience, which is why I only want to buy it if it's 75% off

I use the steam app on my iPhone. It has tabs for sale, flash, popular and specials. You can view your wishlist, it shows current prices including % off, and if you're feeling really adventurous you can make purchases from the app while away from your PC.

If not for the community discussion aspect, I'd just be checking in here now and then as an adjunct to other deal sites for info on game sales. I registered and joined in because this is such a friendly place.

Now for the damages.

Steam:
Jagged Alliance 2 Gold $4
Civ III Complete $1.75
Silverfall Complete $3.75
Droplitz $1
Patricians and Merchants Pack $2
Deus Ex DLC $1.25

Amazon:
Bioshock Dual Pack $5 (Even though I got Bioshock 1 for free on Gamefly)
Paradox War Chest $7.50
Zeno Clash $1
Dead Island GOTY $6.80
THQ Bundle (minus the Red Faction games) $7.25

Other:
Double Fine Fortnight, IndieGala Sim, Groupee Build a Bundle 4, Indie Royale Stuffing Bundle, and week 1 of the new Indiefort (with plans to grab all five weeks.)

I was tempted to grab Coconut Queen to see what the fuss is about. I was tempted by LA Noire Complete. I was tempted by Batman GOTY. I was tempted by the Paradox Heavy Seas bundle. I was tempted by a bunch of stuff, but who can get everything?

Same policy's back too:

3) Only BTA people will be qualified 'early buyer' for the Happy Hour ( if an HappyHour will be ). In a few words: Happy Hour is only for BTA people.

edit: if an HappyHour will be

Looks like one only for Steam completionists, as I have most of this stuff from GMG and other places. I'm not even excited about this one on the cheap unless there are decent bonus games.
Old 11-27-2012, 12:11 PM   #9996
Only picked up a few games:

Torchlight II
Castle Crashers
Silverfall
Civ 5 G+K

Any last minute opinions of Drakensang: The River of Time? I don't think it's ever been 75% off and it's currently this price.

The steam app is great, I use it on my Galaxy S3.

Does anyone know if there is going to be a sale on Farcry 3? This is a game I am definitely going to pick up but am not sure if I should preorder or not.
