New 10 year CBA should keep it going for awhile. THE LOCKOUT IS OVER!!

OMG. About damn time!

EDIT: "technically" we have a framework...but here are some of the key items:

Quote:
Some of the final compromises: The term of the CBA will be 10 years, with an out after eight years. Contract lengths will be limited to seven years, or eight if a team re-signs its own player. The salary cap in Year 2 will be $64.3 million, the same as it was last season. All were contentious issues.

Does this mean all this will happen again in 2021?

Unless they figure out a way to contend the CBA sooner, yes. Yes, it will.

I won't be satisfied until the first puck drops.

Yeah, the hesitation in all this just makes me nervous. Words like "framework" and "tentative" and "almost" just make it feel like either side could get pissy at any moment and call the whole thing off. Let's get this damn thing ratified and get the teams practicing already.

Zero chance this falls apart. When the NFL reached a "tentative" deal, the players were like "there's no deal. We haven't even seen this proposal"

That's cause it doesn't matter, once the union reps reach a deal, they basically make the players vote for it. Otherwise if the players were so against it, they would break the union apart and fire all the union leaders when they reformed.

The chances of that are amazingly unlikely.

It's been contentious enough of a negotiation process that I want to agree with you, Destro. But since we've seen sides storm away from the negotiation table just because someone they don't like walks in the door (Donald Fehr), this has been a very challenging lockout that exposes a lot of hurt feelings, unneeded sensitivity, and bruised egos.

So while I think there's a greater than zero chance that it could still not be ratified (i.e., I wouldn't be shocked if Jeremy Jacobs pulled some dirty shit at the last minute), I think that it is indeed a really *close* to zero chance.

Anybody think this will actually bite the NHL in the financial ass long term? I tend to think not since people seem so eager to get back into seats after the billionaires and millionaires wasted half the season nickeling and diming each other. I expect another "we have the best fans" backhanded rally speech sometime after the season is officially back in.

Probably will bite them dollar wise in the short-term. An entire season lost would have been more of a long term effect.

Meh... Also, if fans don't boycott they are stupid. Let everyone involved in the NHL feel a whole season without income feels like (these days) and that might make them think twice about being complete ing idiots...

The thing is if fans don't go to the games then all the bars and parking garages/lots are in the same situation they are currently in.

Well, these idiots NEED to know they can't just rip out a sport fans love and get away with it... They need to feel as much pain as the fans have... I don't think there is anyone that won't suffer in some way. I can't imagine many of the "people behind the scenes" at all these venues still have a job at this point...

I would rather see fans park in the garages/lots and go to a local bar near the arenas on game nights then if people are going to boycott the games. That way the fans are not hurting the people that run the parking garages/lots and the bar owners and the employees of the garages/lots and bars.

Great article here.

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/time-ga...0708--nhl.html

I doubt half of these things will actually happen, but they would definitely be steps in the right direction. I'm not going to be one to "boycott the NHL". I agree 100% that both sides should have been thinking of the people who put them in the position to be so rich and successful, and never let it get this far. But I also don't take the lockout personally. It was about business, and my interactions with the league will be based on the same things (which is how I generally try to conduct myself anyway). And if the league showed true remorse by doing some/all of the things mentioned in the article above, I'll be much more generous with my time/money as well.

But I'm not going to go see a Preds game because they "need me" there. I'm going to do it if it's convenient, somewhat economical, and enjoyable. I'm not going to ignore my family for the team. I'm not going to put myself into debt to get center ice season tickets. But I wouldn't do those things anyway. I don't boycott a movie just because it was delayed. So, I'm not going to pretend to be angry enough to keep myself from enjoying a sport that I love. Do I wish the lockout hadn't happened? Of course. But am I glad it's over and hockey is coming back? You bet your ass I am!

Capitals win the Stanley Cup.

It's Over. You know it.

Ovie and Backstrom will win the cup so the Caps owner won't want to renegotiate their contracts. With Holtbeast in net, you can't stop us!

As an Avs fan living in Buffalo, I don't have many opportunities to see my team regardless. But I plan on going to a game or two (nosebleed section) to enjoy some hockey. I'll also be stopping by some local establishments and support them as well.

I hope Luongo gets traded to Florida. The pressure on him there will be much less than in Vancouver or Toronto. Detroit could sign Corey Perry, too, please.

Jan. 19 can't come soon enough.
