Awesome website. I just found this article on it:

http://www.brickpicker.com/index.php...or_the_picking

I had heard people talking about how expensive the older modular buildings were, but I had no idea the prices these were going for on the secondary market these days.

I still have Cafe Corner and Green Grocer mint in box...

That's how I found the website, when I was trying to price that set. I never ended up selling it for $350 but for $450 instead, I think people really started taking interest in this manor after they saw how much Taj Mahals, Eiffel Towers and Statue of Liberties brought in.

As far as from an investment standpoint, I have no idea if sets will sell for ludicrous amounts like that a few years after release, I think people are flooding the market as it is which was one of the main reasons why I let go of my Green Grocer. It's ok though, it helped me out paying for my daughters Birthday Party and it will take the wife off my back for a bit.

I'm sorry but that website has taken "investing" in Lego into a completely insane level.

Invest in exclusive sets, everything else (Really Dublo Zoo?) or sets with exclusive minifigures. I don't think the Super Hero sets will be as big as people think because Lego will just release more and more as the movies and sequels come out.

Missed the Diagon Alley set. Amazon jacked its price up to $210, and the Lego shop is sold out.

I know that Lego will probably release another same X-Wing in the future, however I am interested in Porkins and the red Astromech Droid.

So far, I've only ever resold minifigs (prequel SW minifigs--I don't need 'em) I DID sell an old Batman Arkham Asylum a few years back (I had two--brace yourself, I got them at TRU clearanced at $14. People don't remember, but the first round of Batman didn't sell well. They were always on clearance.) Sold my opened box copy for $200 in 2010...probably should have waited. Then again, there's a new Arkham out now...

Minifigs are easy to ship. The sets (especially in boxes) are a shipping nightmare. This site is very interesting. But, yeah. If sites like it are popping up, it's not hard to imagine an eventual Beanie Baby-esque implosion.

Yeah the first wave of Batman Lego really miss judged. They didn't sell at all, and then all of a sudden they started selling like girl on girl jet skis when the second wave came around.

I got my Batman AA for $30 and it was missing a random bag of small parts and a minifigure head. It was 68 pieces and LEGO sent me every single one of them for free, no questions asked!

Lego is awesome like that.

You should make a Cuusoo set!

Maybe a life size one with 100,000 pieces!

I remember calling around trying to find a $14 Arkham, never did get one. That was just about when i got back into legos. The newer one is a must buy for me this year.
And i agree that legos seem due for a bit of a price decrease, but unlike beanie babies kids play with legos, which means there should always be some demand for hard to find, out of print sets.

Beanie Babies were a fad, unlike Lego. That said, I can't imagine the insane markups will last forever. And while I'm registered on that site, the whole investing angle makes me feel a little dirty.

I'm not real fond of the superhero sets, or the TMNT sets. Just not my cup of tea I guess. Mainly I'm big on the Star Wars stuff and a couple of the City sets catch my eye here and there (I really like the Mining Truck I got for $17 last week). I do like the sets for The Hobbit and a couple Lord of the Rings sets.

I realize I'm about to sound stupid, but what's the story behind the girl on girl jet ski set everyone keeps referring to?

I found that site during Christmas and registered. I was going to post it here but I forgot. It's cool because you can import your bricklink collection and it will show you the value. Apparently my collection is worth $15,000 but I haven't changed from sealed to used yet, so I'm sure that will decrease.

The girl on girl is a few pages back. There's a new jetski set coming out. Here's the page:

Ah, I know the set you're referring to.

Also, by far my best Lego deal ever was the Anakin and Sebulba's Podracers for $30. This was back in November, and it showed up for $30 in a Target ad. Both of my Targets were out, so I got it price matched at Walmart with no questions asked. Went back to Target a few days later and found a notice hanging in the Lego area that said the Anakin's Jedi Interceptor was supposed to be $30, not the Podracers.

Yeah that deal was funny because TRU was claiming that Target told them not to honor the price (price matching during the holidays). Like Target doesn't have anything better to do than email Toys R Us.

The jet ski set became a joke because someone here thought I said "girl on girl jet ski" because he hasn't been laid in awhile. I only brought that set up because certain (stupid) groups still complain that LEG Friends is sexist.

They probably did the same thing to other retailers, I just got the deal before my store got the email.

Wandered over to Walmart for the heck of it. Got the Satellite Launch Pad for $9.50. Box is pretty beat up, but it's for my collection so I don't mind.

They had the Sith Infiltrator for $27. I passed for now, as the only interesting thing in it for me was the Captain Panaka minifig, and I just don't find the ship that interesting (plus it's on screen for what? 5 seconds total?). My Walmart is also loaded with Battle of Naboo and Ewok Attack sets for $12. I sort of feel like they won't be in high demand though.

Also had the Black Pearl for $50. I'm not a huge PotC fan, but the set looks awesome, and at $50 is a good deal. I could always get two and resell the one I guess (although I have done no reselling ever).

My kids attend the monthly Lego store events. And it's amazing how many parents are banking on Lego sets to pay for their kids college. Kinda feels like the comic book "investing" crazy of the late 90's.

Probably thousands "invested" in Lego, and $0 in a 529 plan.

Stupid is as stupid does.
