See how the Vita can be used as a tool to help you out in the PS3 version of Thieves in Time.

Really looking forward to this game. This was one of my favorite franchises during the PS2 generation; glad it's finally back.

I missed this series. I didn't get the HD remake, but I'm ready for SC4.

By the looks of it, 2013 is looking just as good with the upcoming release of Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time! Sly and the gang are back on February 5th for $39.99 on PlayStation 3 and $29.99 on PS Vita. If you buy the PS3 copy, you’ll receive the digital PS Vita version from PSN at no additional cost.

Today we’re here to give you a taste of some of the new gameplay you’ll get to experience. In case you missed it, we had an IGN Live session right before the holidays, with Glen Egan and Mat Kraemer from Sanzaru Games showing off the first few hours of the game. In that preview you got a glimpse of some of the gameplay mechanics, Sly’s samurai costume, his Japanese ancestor Rioichi Cooper, and a look at one of the vibrant lush environments Sly will be visiting as he travels through time. In this new gameplay video below, you’ll get to see how the team works together to pull a heist on El Jefe, the epic boss you’ll meet during your travels to Feudal Japan.

This is just a slice of how the game is going to break down but there will be plenty to do aside from that, including earning all of the costumes — which you’ll be able to replay the game with to find new collectables and hidden treasures. Speaking of collectables, we’d like to take a minute to announce the winners of our Sly Cooper Treasure Design Contest! It’s been quite a while, but we finally got a hold of the winners and are happy to reveal the two winning designs. Both the items below and their descriptions will be included as collectable treasures in Thieves in Time:

We had tons of entries and the team had a tough time choosing these winners, but we want to make sure everyone got to see their designs! Big congrats as well to our runner-up winners, who were also notified. We hope you’ve been enjoying the fantastic prizes!

Bet you can’t wait to start playing, right? Well good news — we’ll be releasing a new downloadable demo, so you can get some hands-on time with Sly before the game hits store shelves. Starting January 22nd, the new demo will be available exclusively for PlayStation Plus subscribers. Then, on January 29th, it will be available publicly to all PSN users. For those of who got early access to the first Sly demo from the Ratchet & Clank Collection, this demo is brand new — so be sure to check this one out as well! Stay tuned for lots more on Sly as we head toward launch, and don’t forget to pre-order your copy today.

It's so weird this is coming out at $40. I wonder if this game is just really short.

I think Sony is just trying to market it and place a good, but not premier franchise in front of gamers at a price (and value with Cross Buy) that is good for a new game.

price a game at $60, people say its over priced and game is too short.

price a game at $40, people question if the game has enough content.

there is really no winning with some people. there were a ton of posts at the ps blog doing this. people also assumed that sony/sanzaru had zero faith in the game and is already writing it off before it even releases.

Indeed. Poor Sony just can't win

Regardless of length and cost, I can't wait for this game. One of my favorite game series. The videos of gameplay look good and I think Sanzaru will do a good job with it.

Me, too. If it was to be released at $60, then of course I'd wait for a sale. If it's a short game, then even better so i can play it and trade it in quickly before the value tanks or wait for a BestBuy 100% promo.

This was the first game series that I ever completed. After #3, I was happy because it seemed that Sly finally got himself a girlfriend .

How do they control usage of the cross buy digital version?

Say I purchase the PS3 disc, download the vita version, then flip the PS3 disc. I wonder if they have any way of confirming you still own the disc?

I just played the demo and i can see why they lowered the price tbh, it plays exactly like the old games, and that's not a good thing at all, the combat is still pretty bad, and the controls aren't good enough for todays standards.

Controlled well to me and I kind of expect the next Sly Cooper game to feel like the previous games, which is a good thing when it's from a whole new team.

I recorded a playthrough of the demo that will go live at about 5 AM EST:

I don't believe so, the new owner of the PS3 version just would not be able to access the Vita version. Kind of like how once you use an online pass, you can resell it, but the new owner of the game will have to buy the pass if they want to play online.

I likely will be doing this as well, but who knows, I could keep the PS3 version too.
