Is MMI/ Shallow Hal a dual pack? I'm confused.

Are Dredd and the total recall remake worth buying at these prices? Heard/read mixed reviews on both. Anyone seen Dredd and raid redemption, if so how much of "creative liberties" are "borrowed" from RR?

Let me begin by saying I never saw the original Judge Dredd or Total Recall.

I enjoyed both of the remakes though. Dredd had plenty of nonstop action scenes, and Total Recall was a decent enough popcorn flick. Keep in mind I bought both of these as UV codes on here for less than $3.50 each, so it was a whole lot less than a disc copy.

Raid Redemption was amazing. Like a 2 hr movie of Asian Bourne scenes.

i definitely saw similarity in plots between RR and Dredd, idk which one came out first, or if it was pure coincidence.

Dredd was a better movie IMO, but thats what you would expect with the budget they were allocated

RR was good too, i think i will enjoy it more a second time around.

edit: btw im watching Dredd on blu-ray right now and it looks spectacular

I've read almost nothing but praise for Dredd. The consensus is not mixed at all.

Also note that The Raid is based on a leaked Dredd script. They basically stole the plot and beat Dredd to market.

Dredd is fan-ing-tastic (mixed reviews for Dredd? Last I saw it was critically praised). I Will say the advertising for the film was God awful to the point where I was going to call it a Raid knock off after reading the synopsis, but seeing the film was a different experience altogether. So outside of people trapped in a building and working their way to the top, there's nothing similar about the films. The Raid feels like the next step from Tony Jaa films like Ong Bak, while Dredd is a film that feels like it harkens to the day of 80's action films like Robocop where the violence is over the top and filled with dark humor. I Kind of think of it as the sort of movie people like Arnold and Stallone wish they could make at their age.

Total Recall remake though is god ing awful.

The Total Recall movie never bored me, but it never interested me either. The director is pretty vanilla and doesn't really bring anything to the table. And instead of being a movie that tries to be more like the source material, it just apes heavily from the Schwarzenegger film. It's a glossy and effects-heavy film but it doesn't know what to do with itself.

Total Recall, or as it's also known as, two hours of unnecessary lens flare. I literally couldn't finish the movie, they got to be that annoying. And I wasted a free redbox rental on it.

I didn't care for the Total Recall remake at all.

The Bluray is also problematic--wide spread audio drop out problems. There's a thread about it on Bluray.com and other sites. I rented it from Netflix and got drop outs on both my Sony S590 and my PS3. From the threads it seems like the problem was mostly on Sony players--which is ironic as it's a Sony movie.

Here's the link to the Blu-Ray.com thread about the audio issues:

http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=212328

Their "fix" is to change the audio output settings to PCM, which is a work-around, not a resolution.

The OP of that thread said he had dropout issues with his revised disc, so it's still an ongoing issue at the moment.

It also affects the WM steelbook copies as well as the regular copies in the channel.

I just got back from Best Buy with another round of movies. My BBY had a TON of Dredd 3D, so the shortage definitely isn't chain-wide.

I picked up Dredd 3D, Boondock Saints 2, Old School and Tropic Thunder this time. Turns out the old lady wanted to hold on to one of the "junk" DVDs, so I only had 4 on hand to trade.
