dont get me wrong, external disks have their uses ,we agree in that

you could try a custom enclosure + a fast 7200 rpm drive, id say wd black too

id prefer e-sata over usb,if your laptop supports it
e-sata is basically sata and works natively ,
usb is universal- this means good but not great -and needs driver. an extra and not neededlayer that may cause problems on poor implementations

external drives frequently change letters, if you are swaping external drives and it may be annoying in that case

---
alternatively you can download any game
and move the installation directory anywhere without uninstalling the game
when you want to play the game just copy it t again to your int hdd in the appropriate dir
this is the best compromise but may become boring
-
Yeah, good advice. It totally slipped my mind that I have a hybrid e-SATA/USB 3.0 port on this thing.

I'm also familiar with symlinking, so it makes moving installations around (to faster drives, for instance) a breeze.

So, is the chance of more keys for Paradox 2012 Ultimate collection officially dead now?
I notice that the pack no longer shows on first page...

eSATA is definitely a good option. You could just get an enclosure or docking station with both eSATA and USB 3.0, and see which connection performs better on your setup.

eSATA is definitely the best option - it's just SATA with a different plug and cabling standard.

The message from Tony seemed to be, if he was going to get more keys, he would have gotten them by now.

Too bad. I regret holding out for the 2012 pack and not getting the CKII pack instead.

^this

I'm upset I saved my last coupon to use on this. Would've liked to buy Age of Empires 3 Collection, but held out to get the Paradox 2012 pack. Wish the coupons were still usable throughout the weekend for those that held out hope.

Clearly the best solution is to convert all EC leftover amounts into promo credit eligible for PC digital downloads only that expire once the month is over. Did I say month? I meant year. Or week. Or whatever makes that more likely to occur in any remote way.

Aye agreed, would have liked to at least grab CKII if the 2012 pack wasn't gonna make it. Rather bummed I didn't get either. But the truth is Tony you've done an amazing job the last two months, and I hope the coming year is just as awesome : )

BTW I can't remember but was the Prototype Bundle from a few months ago, said to never be coming again or something like that? I have horrible memory issues but I thought I read someone saying we weren't going to see it again. Just out of curiosity.

Happy February all!

I don't have one of them newfangled USB 3 ports myself, but USB 1 & 2 had terrible CPU utilization (and no DMA), but hey, it's an Intel standard -- maybe you should buy a new CPU. So I was wondering if USB3 is similarly bad -- quick searching revealed not as bad, but it still can chew 12% load.

Honestly, I'd just copy whatever on/off an internal.

Cheap enclosures not only suffer from poor thermals, but often have powersupplies that aren't robust.

I hope to get the DLCs for cheap from Amazon.

I do have 3x 1.0TB WD Black HDDs and they are indeed very reliable. The oldest one has 33484 Power On Hours

Now go snag GW2 @ $22 so we can envy you more, Euro-CAG! ^_~

am admittedly a bit pissed that the Paradox bundle didn't come through and I saved a key for it, but I understand it's not Tony's fault or anything. Paradox's reps didn't come through.

You seriously think a big company like Paradox should be easily able to just get one person to generate the keys approve and forward them to amazon in a very short time frame :/

Generating keys is like printing money. I'm assuming that the process to approve it isn't a short/quick one, and the people with the authority to approve it were at that meeting in Iceland.

That seems kind of silly for a business to put a transaction on hold (and to a big customer as well) because the important people aren't there to approve (or put aside time to do it). Having said that, like you said we have no idea how this all works. Hopefully something positive happens for the people waiting for these keys to turn up
