I've played 35 minutes of Rogue Warrior, which was 2 missions. Tons of screen tearing, and headache inducing graphical glitches, but I can't wait to play more.

Here's a totally sweet-looking game on Greenlight & Kickstarter - Delver's Drop, a Zelda-style dungeon crawler. Vote for it!

I don't think so, but it's been this price before (and probably will be again).

Sorry. Busy day. This is actually one that I don't own. I passed on it several times before due to the scathing reviews (and many mentions of wonky physics/handing). MysterD sold me on in it in August, but It hasn't hit $5 again until now. (It tends to hit $5, but it evaded the Xmas sales.)

Hmm, that could explain the unusually high hostility in the user reviews.

Namely, the game got slammed for lacking features; Internet connection problems; bugs; broken quests and races; crazy physics for racing (especially when compared by many to TDU1); tough difficulty (especially when doing the License getting missions to start the game) [the tough difficulty on License getting races is still present, BTW]; coming w/ Securom Internet DRM activation; and other kinds of madness.

A lot of this got overhauled in numerous patches (like many of Eden's other games), before the DLC actually got released.
Eden Games has been known for releasing buggy/broken products [see Alone in the Dark (2008 Reboot)].

For $5, it'd be silly to pass this up. Last time I played it, I had a BLAST w/ it online. I really didn't deal w/ other online players much (since many were online and many were just doing the solo races and that stuff).
I just did the "solo" missions, races, and whatnot - for the most part.

It can be tough to get a MP race going, anyways - if anybody's actually even online playing this! Especially now, since the game's OLD.

If you have problems trying to connect online or dealing w/ online hackers/cheaters - just create another profile and put that profile in offline mode.
Playing offline, you'd just miss out on online players all over the game-world(s); and unable to do custom MP-based competitive races.
On the map, you'll find spots that are either SP-based (that's most spots) or are MP-based (which are lobbies, more or less). When offline, you can't do the MP stuff; only SP. When online, you can do both types of missions - up to you.
What the game probably should've did was let the MP spots on the map always be accessible and easy for Friends to contact each other and Quick-Travel to those spots to get a race going.

I do not know if TDU2 Steam-version comes w/ Securom DRM anymore, but if I was you - especially if that could be a factor for you and all (should be, I hate 3rd party DRM on Steam-versions) - you might want to look into it and check the Steam forums to see if it comes w/ it still.
Hopefully, they removed it. I don't know truly, though. No clue.
It's definitely worth looking into and asking around to those who actually bought it from Steam today.

EDIT:
I'm gonna check to see if online servers for game-playing are up. I'm gonna play this thing, if it is.

EDIT 2:
Yup, there's people playing, here & there - wonder if it's 'cause of the sales.
I'm on the Hawaii map here (you have to level-up enough to unlock this);
I wonder how things are in Ibiza (the starting map).

EDIT 3:
IMHO, this G4TV review (for X360 version) is spot on:

Seriously this game is RIDICULOUSLY HUGE, in sheer size. You have Ibiza and Oahu in TDU2 - which are BOTH HUGE themselves. Hell, Ibiza itself is huge; nevermind not even getting to Oahu!

If you actually do like it, you'll keep coming back for more - b/c this game has just SO MUCH TO DO. It's a racing & driving MMO, more or less. It can be quite addicting.

Sure - the racing, physics, and handling are nowhere as great as many of its competitors (Burnout series and NFS series); but the game just does so much. It's hard to ignore how much this game has going on - and that it does it well, too.

The game has a steep learning curve and a half. This is what might really turn people off; especially when trying to get your License for whatever style car you want to drive, in the very beginning. You have to do this, before you can really do any race competitions. Especially early on, cars handle like garbage; especially low-level stuff. They don't handle well, until you get better cars and/or win some races, do some missions, or explore the game-world; up to you how you want to play this out. Not until you get better cars and equipment - you might not want to play super-aggressive on turns, speeding, sliding, & shifting until you get MUCH better cars - or you might as well just basically restart your race or mission.

EDIT:
Here's another fair review for TDU2 (for X360) - from Kevin Van Ord (who was filling in for Jane Douglas):
http://www.gamespot.com/test-drive-u...eview-6298777/

Thanks for that! I'm back to looking forward to it. Need to figure if I should snag it off Steam (convenience, maybe no securom) or Amazon ("warranty" coverage on activations).

Edit: Steam version has SecuROM 4 activation limit as well according to multiple TDU2-SPUF threads as well as this. Oh yeah, and the TDU2 page.

Edit2: Steam version has achieves. (I always like to look at achieve statistics.)

Edit3: Snagging this of Amazon for their "unlimited activations" policy. I have a habit of re-playing my old racers.

Yeah, it was comments like that that got me. FWD cars are really annoying to try and spin when you're used to RWD.

Since you really do live in Hawaii - I guess you got an unfair advantage, when you unlock the huge Oahu map. :P

Now I'm really wondering how it compares to NFS Shift.

While we're on the topic of TDU2, to be completely honest I kind of liked it, sure it may not have the most accurate handling in the world, but like MysterD was saying there is SO MUCH TO DO in this game. It really is like a driving MMO, you can buy lots of cars, participate in races, buy clothes for your avatar, buy houses, etc. Sometimes it's enjoyable enough driving around taking in the scenery. It may not be the best driving game out there but it sure as hell is worth $5, actually contemplating rebuying it on steam (bought it first on Amazon) for convenience. (and 'chieves. can't forget those 'chieves!)

On another, DON'T try to play this with KB+M. I'm betting some of the handling issues are from people who only played with KB+M. I started out with KB+M and didn't really like the game. Once I switched to my xbox controller it made a night and day difference.

The game is so terrible even the black market refuses to keep it in stock!
Old 02-09-2013, 02:28 AM   #14553
Hey everyone, just a quick heads up. I try to keep most of the Enhanced Steam talk in it's own thread (see my signature) so I'm not trying to derail the thread.

I just updated the Chrome version to 2.3 which adds an "Add to cart" button to the wishlist page. Why Steam doesn't already have this is beyond me. Some games are a little screwed up at the moment, but about 90% should be working.

If you don't already have my extension installed, again see my signature. Thank you everyone for your support, your feature suggestions, and your DLC categorization submissions!!!

If I had never redeemed that game but knew what I did about everything about it now...

I would pay $2.00 for it.

Even though I'm opposed on principle to playing terrible games on purpose, I might have to get this at some point. I read this Demo Dick guy's Wikipedia and it doesn't make him sound quite as bad as this game apparently does. However, I'm not sure I could live with myself in the morning if I paid even $2 for it. I'll have to find something to trade it for someday.
Old 02-09-2013, 09:47 AM   #14556
In all honesty, Test Drive Unlimited 2 doesn't sound so bad, but I have a bad habit of comparing everything to Blur - Now, nothing else will do.

In typical CAGly fashion, Activation Limits are good spending repellants.

Test Drive Unlimited 2

So I've spend a few hours in TDU2, earned two licences, completed one championship, and done some side activities and "missions". My verdict so far is, "Full of Win!"

The physics and handling are enjoyable and, so far, consistent. I turned all the driving assists off (like I always do). It plays a bit closer to the sim-side than most arcade racers. Traction management is important. Don't jam the brake or gas while turning hard. The drift handing model is quite enjoyable and responsive (similar to IRL). Heel & toe (or handbreak) into the drift, control your drift, turn in to regain traction and accelerate out. It has an enjoyable difficulty level, through if you know what you're doing you can easily ace events on the first try (so far at least).

Back to the driving assists bit. Some arcade racers and some sims have driving assists (traction control, stability control, ABS, etc). The way they are implemented varies a lot. In some games it's near impossible to drift with them on. On other games simply having the assists on makes the handling feel wonky or unresponsive. Like their real life counterparts, they are some automated junk that gets in the way between how you command your car to handle and how it actually does. I strongly recommend turning them off (usually full-on by default) and only turning them on (a little at a time) only if you're having trouble -- say constantly spinning out. I haven't played with assists on in TDU2 but I'd guess the physics/handing complaints in user reviews are related to the assists and the importance of traction management in TDU2.

It's a really interesting take on an open world racer. The last groundbreaking open world car game I played was AutoAssault (MMO).

TDU2 seems graphically ambitious. On my GTX 260, on defaults (medium, no-AA), I'm getting 45-60 FPS. (I used SweetFX to give me some SMAA.) It looks good on medium, even better on higher settings. It has some of most detailed (non-mod) road textures I've seen. =)

TLDR TDU2 is, "Full of Win!"

Edit: I forgot to mention, the game started with my pretty and rich lesbian partner giving me a Ferrari on my Birthday. ...like reality, it turned out that I was just daydreaming. I'd also give it bonus points for a racing game that allows you to choose a female avatar -- something a lot of racing games don't.
Old 02-09-2013, 02:53 PM   #14560
Bought TDU2 too, and with that review I'm even more secure I'm going to enjoy it! now it just have to finish the download.
